Abstract

This present study explores the practices of teaching and learning Arabic among Muslim minorities by using the approach of modernity principles. A qualitative descriptive approach was designed in this research. It was conducted in West Papua, which covered five regencies and one city. The findings demonstrate that the instruction served in a number of pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) in Mayamuk, Aimas, Waisai, Teminabuan, Kaimana, Waigom, and Misol was carried out in a structured manner. In these seven locations, Islamic education that adopted a language skill-based instructional framework was presented by applying a communicative approach among santri(pesantren students). The language component fostered among santri was Arabic expressions without any special emphasis on the mastery of grammar. The pesantren atmosphere equipped with a boarding school for santri as a place to stay facilitated interactions among them as well as the instructors to practice their language skills. The skills were situated in the learning context and the accompanying environment. The existing social aspects were then used to mediate the teaching and learning process. The study also reveals that the variety of learning objectives determining the aspects of the approach and methodology affects Arabic instruction in the pesantren settings. It implies that not only does pesantren internalize a religious spirit, but it also promotes Indonesiabased on the spirit of nationalism.

Abstract

This article examines Fazlur Rahman's intellectual legacy and its influence on the development of Islamic thought in Indonesia. Rahman, with his neo-modernist approach, offered a "double movement"-based method of Qur'anic interpretation that emphasizes the importance of historical context and its application in the present. This study uses a qualitative approach with literature analysis, highlighting how Rahman's ideas spread to Indonesia through student networks, his works, and his direct interactions with Indonesian intellectuals. This article also documents Rahman's influence on major figures such as Nurcholish Madjid, Abdurrahman Wahid, Ahmad Syafii Maarif, and Amien Rais, as well as his contribution to the reform of Islamic education in Indonesia. The findings show that Rahman's ideas on contextual interpretation, educational reform, and the development of critical thinking have played a major role in driving the intellectual dynamics of Indonesian Islam, although they have also faced criticism and challenges in their application.

Abstract

AbstractIslamic boarding schools not only can bring up the religious enthusiasm, but also interpret Indonesia with a spirit of nationalism. Hence, it is not surprising that pesantren (Islamic Boarding School) is present to give a dedication to this nation aside from Islamic interest. Not only in the role of education,an educational institution like pesantren also had socio-cultural functions and role, a significant spiritual movement needs to be done to provide reinforcement towards empowerment within the goal of education holistically. A means that supports the learning process is the mastery of Arabic. This paper will describe the practice of Arabic teaching and learning in Muslim minority area with an approach to the principle of moderation. The research was carried out in West Papua which included five districts and one city. The results of the study showed that the application of learning that was carried out in Islamic boarding schools in Mayamuk, Aimas, Waisai, Teminabuan, Kaimana, Waigom, and Misol, was done in a well-structured. In the seven locations, Islamic education within the framework of the learning process that is based on language skills is carried out with the santri (Students) communicative approach. The skill of the students that is trained is linguistic expression without special emphasis on grammar mastery. The environment of boarding schools that provide dormitories as a place to live becomes a tool of interaction among santri (students) in practicing language skills. The language ability of the students is adapted to the learning context along with the environment. The existing social aspects are used to support the learning process. Finally, this research concludes that differences in learning objectives and determining approach and methodological aspects will affect learning Arabic. Keywords: Modern, Learning, Islamic Boarding School

Abstract

This research is about differences and similarities of phrase construction in Arabic and Indonesian. The approach in this paper was a descriptive qualitative analysis approach. The findings of this study revealed that some construction of the phrase structure is the same. Subordinative noun phrases are equivalent to idhafah in Arabic, Indonesian adjective phrases are similar to na'at in Arabic, Indonesian coordinative phrases are similar with athaf in Arabic and Indonesian prepositional phrases are similar to syibhul-jumlah in Arabic. However, there are differences between both languages which can be found in Idhafah in Arabic, some vocabulary cannot be called phrases in Arabic, and vice versa. Differences can also be found in the use of athaf letters in the equivalent of coordinative phrases. The differences are also found in the numeral phrases and murakkab adadi. Even taukid and tarkib majazi do not have the equivalent in Indonesian. The differences are not only due to structural aspects, but also by differences in cultural concepts and expressions. This study implies that errors can be predicted in the construction of Indonesian student phrases and the production of translations of Arabic phrases that are different from the construction of Indonesian phrases. The differences were found not only in the structure but also in differences in cultural concepts. This study shows that mistakes can be predicted from the formation of phrases and the translation of Arabic sentences that are different from the structure of Indonesian language.
