Abstract

Pitaya (as known as red dragon fruit in Indonesia) and honey contain high polyphenols and flavo-noids as the main source of antioxidants. Antioxidant compounds in pitaya and honey can reduce systolic and diastolic blood pressure. The aim of this study were to determine the characteristics of gender, age, and Body Mass Index of hypertensive respondents and determine the effect of the combination of pitaya juice and honey on the reduction in blood pressure and Body Mass Index for geriatric hypertensive respondents at the Puskesmas Sempaja Samarinda. This research used quasi-experimental method and data was taken with pre-test and post-test procedures. The data of respondent characteristics shown are women got the highest percentage of 58.9%, middle age of 57.8% and normal weight category (BMI) of 40.7%. The results of descriptive analysis in sys-tolic and diastolic blood pressure from pre-test are 138.64 mmHg and 82.28 mmHg, the post-test are 132.55 mmHg and 77.85 mmHg and decrease in the Body Mass Index of 0.22 kg/m2. The conclusion of this research is the combination of pitaya juice and honey was able to reduce the blood pressure and Body Mass Index

Abstract

Mitragyna speciosa Korth. belongs to the Rubiaceae family and is widely found in the mainland of Southeast Asian countries. This plant, known as Kratom, is also referred to as "Kadamba" in East Kalimantan. Kadamba has been used for generations as a traditional medicine and contains predominantly alkaloid compounds, which generally function as analgesics, antitussives, antidiarrheals, adrenergic agents, antimalarials, antibacterials, and antinociceptives. The aim of this research is to determine the isolation and identification methods for alkaloid compounds in Kadamba leaves. In this study, extraction was performed using methanol solvent, followed by fractionation using Vacuum Liquid Chromatography (VLC) and Column Chromatography (CC) with gradient eluents: 100% hexane, n-hexane : Ethyl Acetate (5:1, 1:1, 1:5), 100% Ethyl Acetate, Ethyl Acetate : Methanol (1:1, 1:5), and 100% Methanol. The compounds were then identified using Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). The isolation process used preparative Thin Layer Chromatography (PTLC) with eluent n-hexane: ethyl acetate: 25% ammonia (6.5:3:0.5 v/v/v), and the spots were observed under UV light at 245 nm and 366 nm. The visible spots were sprayed with Dragendorff's reagent to identify the alkaloid compounds. The results showed that the UV-Vis spectrophotometric characterization of isolate B6-b had two peaks at wavelengths of 288 nm and 294 nm.

Abstract

Bangle (Zingiber cassumunar Roxb.) is a medicinal plant traditionally used by local communities for various health conditions, including fever, stomach discomfort, constipation, and common cold symptoms. This study was conducted to evaluate the analgesic activity of bangle rhizome extract in mice, determine the most effective dose for producing an analgesic response, and compare its analgesic efficacy with aspirin. The experimental animals were randomly allocated into six groups consisting of a normal control group, a negative control group receiving 0.5% NaCMC, a positive control group administered aspirin, and three treatment groups receiving bangle rhizome extract at doses of 150, 200, and 300 mg/kg body weight, respectively. Analgesic activity was assessed using a chemical pain induction model in which 1% acetic acid was administered intraperitoneally 30 minutes after oral administration of the respective treatments. The number of writhing responses was recorded at 10-minute intervals over a 60-minute observation period. The findings demonstrated that the bangle rhizome extract exhibited analgesic activity by reducing the frequency of writhing responses in mice. Among the tested doses, 200 mg/kg body weight produced the most favorable analgesic effect. Furthermore, the analgesic activity observed at this dose was comparable to that produced by aspirin, suggesting that bangle rhizome extract has promising potential as a natural analgesic agent.

Abstract

The growing convergence of halal and sustainable beauty attributes has created a need to understand how consumers translate these product perceptions into purchase intention. This study examines the effects of Halal Product Perception and Sustainable Beauty Perception on Purchase Intention through Perceived Value and Consumer Trust among cosmetic consumers in Indonesia. A quantitative explanatory design was employed using purposive sampling, involving 300 respondents who had experience using cosmetics and had encountered information about halal cosmetics and/or sustainable beauty. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire comprising 29 reflective indicators measured on a five-point Likert scale and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) with SmartPLS 4. The findings show that Halal Product Perception and Sustainable Beauty Perception positively influence Perceived Value and Consumer Trust, while both mediators positively influence Purchase Intention. Halal Product Perception also has a significant direct effect on Purchase Intention, whereas Sustainable Beauty Perception does not. Mediation analysis reveals that Halal Product Perception influences Purchase Intention through complementary mediation via Perceived Value and Consumer Trust, while Sustainable Beauty Perception operates through indirect-only mediation. These findings indicate that halal attributes can function as both direct purchasing considerations and sources of value and trust, whereas sustainability perceptions require value and credibility formation before translating into purchase intention. The study contributes to an integrated understanding of halal-sustainable cosmetic consumption and offers practical implications for developing credible product attributes and transparent communication strategies.

Abstract

Bajakah is often used by Dayak people as a traditional medicine. This plant belongs to the genus unicaria. Plants in the genus unicaria are known to contain many secondary metabolite compounds which have many pharmacological activities. This research was conducted to look at the characteristics of extracts from yellow bajakah including organoleptic examination, drying shrinkage test, water content test, measurement of extract pH, ash content, heavy metal contamination, microbial contamination. The research results showed that the organoleptic examination met the FHI requirements, the drying loss of the extract was 9.56%, the water content was 4.71%, the pH of the extract was 6.41, the ash content was 6.49%, heavy metal contamination with Pb content parameters <0.0172 mg/ L, Cd <0.0084 mg/L, As <0.0002 mg/L, microbial contamination below normal limits. Based on this, yellow bajakah bark extract has extract characteristics that are in accordance with those specified in the Indonesian Herbal Pharmacopoeia (FHI)
