Abstract

Kanker payudara merupakan salah satu penyakit mematikan di dunia pada wanita. Terapi dengan suatu agen kemoterapi belum memberikan penyembuhan yang optimal sehingga menyebabkan terjadi kerusakan jaringan sehat maka diperlukan pengobatan berbasis bahan alam dari tumbuhan yang berpotensi sebagai antikanker yaitu daun pandan wangi (Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb.). Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menentukan aktivitas sitotoksik dan mengetahui karakteristik isolat dari fraksi diklorometana. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan beberapa tahapan meliputi maserasi, partisi, dan kromatografi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan isolat dari fraksi diklorometana mempunyai aktivitas sitotoksik terhadap sel kanker payudara T47D dengan nilai IC50 sebesar 137,32 µg/mL. Isolat dari fraksi diklorometana dengan analisis 1H-NMR (DMSO, 500 MHz) diprediksi merupakan golongan alkaloid kerangka pirolidin dengan pergeseran kimia menunjukkan adanya δH  8,08 ppm (1H,s), 7,68 ppm (5H, dd, J=3,6 Hz, 5,6 Hz), 4,22 ppm (6H, dd, J=3,6 Hz, 5,4 Hz), 3,57 ppm (9H, d, J= 9 Hz), 3,16 ppm (3H, s), 2,63 ppm (2H, s), 2,36 ppm (2H,s), 2,27 ppm (2H, s), 2,08 ppm (1H, s), 1,83 ppm (1H,s), 1,66 ppm (8H, m), 1,30 (28H, m) dan 0,81 (17H, m).

Abstract

The Anting-Anting plant (Acalypha indica) is a shrub commonly used by the indigenous people of West Kalimantan as a mosquito repellent. This study aims to reveal the insecticidal capabilities of extracts and fractions from the leaves and roots of the Anting-Anting plant (Acalypha indica) with and without drying. Previous research has shown that the leaves of the Anting-Anting plant exhibit insecticidal activity against Aedes aegypti larvae. The extracts used were only water and methanol extracts, obtained through various extraction processes, but no publication has yet addressed the insecticidal activity of the roots with different drying methods. This study used samples of the leaves and roots of the Anting-Anting plant, differentiated by oven drying at 40°C, air drying, and no drying. Extraction was performed through maceration using methanol as the solvent, followed by liquid-liquid partitioning using n-hexane, dichloromethane, and ethyl acetate solvents. The active fractions with the highest insecticidal activity were analyzed for phenolic and flavonoid content. The results showed that the ethyl acetate fraction from the air-dried roots of the Anting-Anting plant could kill 100% of the larvae at a concentration of 40 ppm. Phytochemical tests indicated that the ethyl acetate fraction from the air-dried roots contained alkaloid, phenolic, and flavonoid compounds. Based on the analysis of phenolic and flavonoid content in the ethyl acetate fraction of the air-dried roots, the values were found to be 79.75±0.23 mg GAE/g and 68.45±0.41 mg QE/g, respectively. This indicates that the air-dried roots of the Anting-Anting plant have the potential to be an insecticide against Aedes aegypti.

Abstract

Legundi (Vitex trifolia L.) is a plant that contains essential oils. Legundi leaf essential oil has the potential as a more environmentally friendly rice lice repellent. The process of extracting essential oils from Legundi leaves uses the steam-water distillation method. The yield obtained from distillation is 0.10% with a bright yellow color, has a distinctive smell of Legundi oil with a specific gravity of 0.9065 gram/cm3. GC-MS search results showed that Legundi leaf essential oil contains 5 main components, namely 2-β-Pinene (16.18 %), trans-caryophyllene (13.75 %), β-Ocimene (11.16 %), Cyclohexanol (10.03%), and Eucalyptol (5.45%). Testing of repellent activity was carried out on rice lice with variations in volatile oil concentrations of 1%, 5%, 10%, and 20%. The results of the repellent test showed that the highest percentage occurred at a concentration of 20% (P4), which was 56.7%, with an application time of 120 hours (L5). Based on this, it can be said that the greater the concentration of the essential oil used, the higher the percentage of rejection of the population, this also indicates that Legundi leaf essential oil has lice repellent activity (Sitophilus oryzae).

Abstract

Malaria is a disease caused by Plasmodium that is transmitted to humans through female Anopheles mosquito bite. Many cases of antimalarial drug resistance such as chloroquine led to the need for new antimalarial discoveries. Eggplant contains many secondary metabolites that are potential as antimalarial. This study aimed to determine the effectivity of ethanol extract of eggplant peels as antimalarial towards eosinophil in mice induced by Plasmodium berghei. Eggplant peels were extracted by maceration method using 70% ethanol. The analysis of secondary metabolites from the ethanol extract of eggplant peels was conducted using tube test and thin layer chromatography. The percentage of parasitemia and eosinophil were calculated from peripheral blood smear of mice which were treated with extracts at the doses of 0.075, 0.15, and 0.30 mg/20 g of body weight. Dihydroartemisinin-piperaquin (3.744 mg/20 g of body weight) was used as positive control, while distilled water was used as negative control. The study showed that ethanolic extract of the eggplant peels contained alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, steroids, phenolic, and saponins. The extract effectively reduced parasitemia at a dose of 0.075 mg/20 g, but it was not effective in increasing the number of eosinophil in mice. There was no correlation between the number of parasitemia and eosinophil. The study concludes that ethanolic extract of the eggplant peels exhibits antimalarial activity, but does not show immunomodulatory activity in increasing eosinophil.

Abstract

Spons Haliclona sp. termasuk ke dalam kelas Demospongiae yang memiliki kandungan metabolit sekunder berupa alkaloid, terpenoid, fenolik, dan steroid. Metabolit sekunder tersebut dapat berperan sebagai antibakteri, antikanker, antiinflamasi, dan antivirus. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengarakterisasi metabolit sekunder dan menguji aktivitas antibakteri fraksi etil asetat terhadap Staohylococcus aureus menggunakan metode difusi sumuran. Hasil interpretasi FTIR pada isolat menunjukkan adanya serapan gugus O-H melebar (3448,72 cm-1), =C-H (3016,67 cm-1), C-H alifatik (2927,94 cm-1), C-O alkohol (1118,71 cm-1); C=C olefin (1631,78 cm-1) C-X halogen (617,22- 410,84). Kehadiran gugus-gugus fungsi tersebut dan hasil uji fitokimia dapat diduga bahwa isolat merupakan senyawa olefin dari kelompok terpenoid. Hasil uji aktivitas antibakteri menunjukkan bahwa fraksi etil asetat menghambat bakteri Staphylococcus aureus pada konsentrasi 50 µg/µL dan 25 µg/µL masing-masing menunjukkan kapasitas kuat dalam menghambat bakteri, sedangkan pada konsentrasi 12,5 µg/µL terindikasi lemah; dan 6,25 µg/µL tidak menunjukkan aktivitas dalam menghambat bakteri S. aureus.  Hasil uji fitokimia fraksi etil asetat memberikan respon positif untuk senyawa terpenoid dan alkaloid.

Abstract

Tanaman pecut kuda (Stachytarpheta jamaicensis) merupakan salah satu gulma yang banyak digunakan oleh masyarakat di pedalaman Kalimantan Barat untuk pengobatan malaria, demam dan hepatitis. Masyarakat selalu menggunakan rebusan akar untuk pengobatan tradisional. Penelitian ini akan mengungkapkan aktivitas hepatoprotektor ekstrak etanol akar pecut kuda dengan variasi pengeringan dan maserasi. Sampel akar pecut kuda dilakukan pengeringan secara kering angin dan oven pada suhu 35oC. Proses ekstraksi dilakukan secara maserasi, sokletasi dan perkolasi. Semua ekstrak etanol dilakukan pengujian fitokimia serta kadar total fenolik dan flavonoid. Ekstrak etanol dengan kadar total fenolik dan flavonoid terbaik dilakukan uji aktivitas hepatoprotektor terhadap mencit yang diinduksi parasetamol 500 mg. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol akar pecut kuda yang dilakukan pengeringan kering angin dan ekstraksi secara maserasi menunjukkan aktivitas hepatoprotektor terbaik yaitu pada dosis 100 mg/100 g BB menunjukkan SGPT 112,3±2,11 (U/L) dan SGOT 90,4±1,31 (U/L) dengan pembanding curliv 50 mg/100 g BB yang menunjukkan SGPT 109,2±1,91 (U/L) dan SGOT 72,8±1,62 (U/L). Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol akar pecut kuda potensial sebagai hepatoprotektor. Skrining fitokimia menunjukkan bahwa metabolit sekunder golongan fenolik dan flavonoid berperan penting dalam aktivitas hepatoprotektor tersebut.

Abstract

Curcumin has very broad biological activities, but it has low stability. The stability of curcumin can be enhanced by forming complex compounds with metal ions, hoping to preserve its activity. This paper reports the antibacterial activity of zinc(II)-curcumin compared with curcumin alone. Zinc(II)-curcumin complexes have been prepared using ZnCl2 metal precursor in ethanol under reflux conditions with a curcumin:metal molar ratio of 2:1. The reaction, followed by thin-layer chromatography, showed that curcumin had reacted completely with zinc(II) metal ions after 4 hours reaction. The UV-vis spectra of the Zn(II)-Curcumin complex experienced a bathochromic peak shift of 5 nm. The FTIR spectra of the zinc(II)-curcumin complex indicated interactions between the ß-1,3 diketone groups of curcumin and Zn2+ metal ions, manifested by a decrease in absorption band intensity and shift in wave numbers of phenolic -OH and enolic C=O groups. Antibacterial activities of curcumin and zinc(II)-curcumin were evaluated using the disc diffusion method against E.coli and S.aureus bacteria. Curcumin and zinc(II)-curcumin exhibited a moderate antibacterial activity against the bacteria. Inhibition zone diameters against E.coli demonstrated by curcumin and zinc(II)-curcumin at a dose of 100 µg/disc are 6.05 mm  and 5.30 mm, respectively. Meanwhile, at the same dose, curcumin and zinc(II)-curcumin showed inhibition zone diameters against S. aureus in 5.39 mm and 6.09 mm, respectively. The observations demonstrate the preservation of curcumin antibacterial activities although it is introduced with zinc(II) ion.

Abstract

Kelurahan Sedau terletak di wilayah Selatan Kota Singkawang Kalimantan Barat. Daerah Teluk Majantu sebagai lokasi kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Maysarakat (PKM) berada di wilayah pesisir Kelurahan Sedau. Mata pencaharian utama warganya adalah nelayan namun banyaknya pohon kelapa yang tumbuh di pesisir Teluk Majandi menjadi pontesi sumber daa alam yang dapat meningkatkan perekonomian masyarakatnya. Masyarakat Teluk Majantu sebagian besar bergabung pada Kelompok sadar Wisata (POKDARWIS) yang aktivitasnya tidak hanya tentang pengelolaan wisata tetapi juga pengolahan sumber daya alam menjadi produk yang bernilai ekonomi. Kegiatan PKM diawali dengan orientasi lapangan tim pengabdi ke lokasi kegiatan untuk mengidentifikasi masalah mitra, kesepakatan teknologi yang akan diimplementasikan serta penjadwalan PKM. Sehubungan dengan kegiatan PKM yang telah dilakukan sebelumnya, maka warga kelompok sadar wisata menginginkan ada kegiatan pelatihan pembuatan Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO). Oleh karena itu Tim Pascasarjana Kimia FMIPA Untan berinisiatif melakukan kegiatan PKM di lokasi tersebut. PKM dilaksanakan melalui penyampaian materi oleh tim pengabdi dilanjutkan dengan praktek pembuatan VCO. Setelah pelaksanaan pelatihan selesai, dilanjutkan dengan tahapan evaluasi secara kuantitatif dengan menganalisis hasil kuisioner sebelum dan setelah kegiatan dilaksanakan. Berdasarkan respon positif dari warga yang diamati dari antusisme peserta saat pelaksanaan kegiatan, maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa kegiatan ini memiliki dampak positif untuk meningkatkan keterampilan peserta pelatihan.

Abstract

Pasir puya adalah residu penambangan emas yang mengandung mineral berharga seperti zirkon, ilmenit dan besi oksida. Studi ini mengeksplorasi potensi pasir puya sebagai fotokatalis setelah melalui proses aktivasi melalui metode fusi alkali dan kalsinasi. Penelitian ini bersifat eksperimental  bertujuan untuk mengkarakterisasi pasir puya sebelum dan setelah aktivasi serta melihat performanya sebagai fotokatalis dalam mendegradasi metilen biru. Analisis X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), gas sorpsi dan Diffuse Reflectance-UV (DR-UV) digunakan untuk mengkarakterisasi material pasir. Uji kemampuan fotokatalitik pasir dilakukan dengan mengukur penurunan konsentrasi metilen biru dalam kondisi tanpa penyinaran dan disinari lampu halogen dan UV dengan keberadaan pasir. Analisis XRF menunjukkan bahwa pasir puya yang telah melalui reaksi fusi alkali mengandung Fe2O3, TiO2 dan ZrO2 sebagai komponen utamanya. Proses aktivasi pasir melalui kalsinasi meningkatkan luas permukaan spesifik dan membentuk fase anatase TiO2 disamping mineral oksida besi. Energi celah pita dari pasir puya tanpa kalsinasi dan pasir puya yang telah dikalsinasi (aktivasi) tidak jauh berbeda.  Pasir puya yang diaktivasi baik dalam keadaan gelap maupun terang menunjukkan kemampuan lebih baik daripada pasir puya yang tidak diaktivasi. Di bawah lampu UV, pasir yang diaktivasi menurunkan konsentrasi metilen biru hingga 72,7% dalam penyinaran selama 120 menit, sedangkan pasir yang tidak dikalsinasi mampu menurunkan 65,3% metilen biru dalam waktu yang sama. Hasil penelitian ini mengindikasikan bahwa pasir puya yang telah diaktivasi berpotensi menjadi fotokatalis yang efektif, membuka kemungkinan baru untuk pemanfaatan pasir puya, residu penambangan emas sebagai sumber material fotokatalis.

Abstract

Escherichia coli can be pathogenic and will cause several diseases including diarrhea, urinary tract infections, meningitis in newborns and wound infections, especially in wounds in the abdomen. The daruju plant (Acanthus ilicifolius Linn.) is often used by the community, especially West Kalimantan, for energy recovery after childbirth, rheumatism medicine, abdominal pain medicine, hypertension, flatulence, ulcers and antidotes for snake venom. In previous studies, it was also found that daruju leaves (Acanthus ilicifolius Linn.) have antibacterial activity. The purpose of this study is to determine the antibacterial activity of Daruju leaf ethanol extract (Acanthus ilicifolius Linn.) in West Kalimantan against Escherchia coli. Phytochemical screening of ethanol extract from daruju leaves (Acanthus ilicifolius Linn.) was carried out by a qualitative method using several reagents. Test extracts were made in concentrations of 20 mg/mL, 30 mg/mL, 40 mg/mL, 50 mg/ml, and 60 mg/mL with ethanol as a solvent. The antibacterial activity test was carried out by the disc diffusion method and measured the bacterial growth inhibition zone. The results of this study stated that the ethanol extract of daruju leaves (Acanthus ilicifolius Linn.) contains secondary metabolites, namely alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, steroids, and terpenoids. There were no inhibitory zones on the growth of Escherichia coli at all concentrations of the tested extracts. In conclusion, ethanol extract of daruju leaves (Acanthus ilicifolius Linn.) had no antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli at all concentrations of the tested extracts.
