Abstract

The measurement of magnetic susceptibility, pH, element concentration of Fe and apples diameter has been conducted in orchard soil of Malang, East Java Indonesia. The measurement was performed in two orchards, namely Pujon and Poncokusumo with two different kind of apples in each orchard. This research aimed at exploring in detail linked between magnetic properties, the existence of magnetic mineral as magnetic property carrier in the soil, soil pH, as well as the size of apple diameter to evaluate the quality of apple production in the both areas. The results shows that the soil with lower susceptibility, it was expected that the magnetic mineral of magnetic property carrier to be smaller, low soil pH, meaning that the soil was more acidic which implied on a larger size of apple diameter for Rumbeauty type of apple. Meanwhile, when the soil had a higher susceptibility, and it is expected that the magnetic mineral is also high as well as having high pH, this growing media is appropriate to develop Manalagi type of apple. Based on the observed soil magnetic properties and pH from both observed orchards, it can be suggested that Manalagi apple is appropriate to be planted in Poncokusumo area, while Rumbeauty is appropriate to grow in Pujon area.

Abstract

Various geological disasters, such as landslides and ground movements, occur annually in Srimulyo Village, Malang District, with varying levels of damage. Ground movements can affect structures built above, causing sinking, cracking, and collapse. Research into landslides and ground movements triggered by vibrations is generally conducted using the microtremor method, which has proven effective. This study uses the microtremor method to map the soil condition that is potentially prone to movement or landslides based on the observed soil vulnerability index. Data was collected using a TDL 303s Digital Portable Seismograph instrument; the measurement points were established in the form of a grid distributed across the research area, with a recording duration of approximately 45 minutes at each point. The analysis technique utilizes the Horizontal Vertical Spectrum Ratio (HVSR) based on the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) principle. The study’s results found that the research location’s seismic vulnerability index varies between 6.5 and 16.5. Areas with high seismic vulnerability index values, specifically those with Kg>11.5, are scattered on the west, south, and southeast sides of the research location. Based on field observations, these areas are dominated by relatively thick sediment layers, leading to lower dominant frequency values and higher amplification values; consequently, the seismic vulnerability index in the southern region is also high. Doi: 10.28991/CEJ-2024-010-05-017 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

This study aims to design and fabricate a prototype of massage chair made of corrugated cardboard materials and evaluate its structural strength. It could be a pioneering study as no one had manifested or discussed it before. The prototype is currently made with dimensions of approximately 60 ´ 50 ´ 100 cm, consisting of 6 cardboard components, affords a reflexology sensation from solid rubber balls, and provides reclinable features at the backrest and footrest. The most prominent benefit of this cardboard massage chair compared to the commercialized ones is environmentally friendly and lightweight products. Moreover, the constructed component can be disassembled and folded, making it a portable massage chair. From the strength evaluation, the cardboard massage chair can still endure a load of 50 kg to the prototype’s seat, backrest, and footrest. However, multi loading directions (e.g., vertical, longitudinal, lateral), stress concentration, and fluctuating person weight would generate tremendous stress and lead to a more substantial possibility of damage and failures on the cardboard after several testing cycles. Therefore, further improvement processes should be investigated to develop an optimized version of cardboard massage chair in the future.

Abstract

The main problem in Indonesia is the population growth rate which is still high with a percentage of 278.8 million in 2023. This problem can be prevented by using contraceptives that are effective and have long-term effects, one example is the use of birth control implants. Bandar Agung village is a village with a population of 17,000 people and consists of WUS. Based on data, the majority of the population still does not use long-term contraceptives, on average 70% of people prefer to use injectable contraceptives. One of the reasons for mothers' interest in using contraceptive implants is the mother's lack of knowledge about implants. So the solution offered to this problem is to provide education regarding implant contraception. The methods used in this activity are lectures, discussions and questions and answers. So with this activity, it is hoped that the community, especially women, will be able to understand and realize the importance of using family planning, one of which is implantable family planning and that there will be an increase in knowledge for WUS by 75%. With this program in the Puskesmas area, it is hoped that the community, especially women, can carry out implant contraception to reduce the high population growth rate

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the factors leading to siltation in Lake Limboto by analyzing its morphometric characteristics gathered through direct field measurements and remote sensing using Geographic Information System (GIS). Lake Limboto covers an approximate surface area of 26.09 square kilometers, boasts a maximum depth of 4 meters, and maintains an average depth of 2.83 meters. The Shoreline Development Index (SDI) stands at approximately 2.57, indicating an irregular shape of the lake's water body, while the Lake Volume Development (VD) index, at 2.12, suggests a generally flat lake bottom. The Relative Depth (Zr) registers at around 0.69%, as observed from the water turbidity level. The lakebed relief in the vicinity of the lake's periphery is predominantly flat and shallow, particularly in the western, northern, and southern regions, with depths measuring less than 2 meters. In contrast, the lakebed relief in the central and eastern sections tends to be less flat but still features depths of less than 4 meters. Siltation in Lake Limboto primarily results from high sediment input originating from erosion processes, agricultural activities, and settlements in the surrounding area.

Abstract

This research focuses on the development of life-saving life saving rings equipped with remote control systems, with the aim of improving efficiency and effectiveness in emergency rescue in waters. The urgency of this research lies in the creation of a remotely operable buoy, thereby reducing reliance on physical strength and human accuracy during the rescue process. This research follows the ADDIE development model, which includes five phases: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The design of the buoy and the accompanying remote control system are designed with user-friendliness and operational effectiveness in mind. The system is then tested by maritime professionals to assess its practicality and functionality. The test results showed a positive response from users, who gave a high assessment of the design and performance of the buoy. However, there are suggestions to increase the battery life of the remote control to support longer operations. Overall, the development of this life-saving buoy with a remote control system has made a significant contribution to maritime safety. By offering a more reliable and efficient solution, it can improve the quality of rescue operations, reduce the risk of accidents, and improve response in emergency situations in waters.
