Abstract

This classroom action research aims to enhance the learning engagement of Grade XII students at SMA Negeri 2 Mataram in studying colligative properties of solutions through the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model, using a Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) approach and homogeneous group discussions. The classroom action research was conducted in two cycles. The increase in student engagement was assessed based on changes in student groupings, categorized into Groups 1, 2, 3, and 4. Group 1 represented students with high learning engagement. Before the intervention, 28% or 12 students were in Group 1, which increased to 42% or 15 students by the end of Cycle II. Additionally, no students remained in Group 4, representing those with very low engagement. Homogeneous group discussions fostered increased learning engagement by allowing the teacher to create an environment more responsive to each student's needs. The problem-based learning model combined with the Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) approach successfully enhanced student engagement, as the problems presented in learning activities were aligned with real-life situations experienced by the students in their daily lives.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the readiness of science/chemistry teachers for the application of STEM learning (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and to describe the supporting and inhibiting factors of science/chemistry teacher readiness for the application of STEM learning. This research is a descriptive research with a quantitative approach. The population of this study is the number of science/chemistry teachers who teach at SMA/SMK/MA Country in District Gerung. The sampling technique in this study used purposive sampling. The number of samples was 12 science/chemistry teachers in SMA/SMK/MA Country in District Gerung. Data collection techniques using interview guidelines and questionnaire techniques which have been declared valid and reliable. The results of the research on attitude readiness, emotional readiness, cognitive readiness and behavioral readiness in public SMA/SMK/MA Country in District showed an average gain of 74.04%. This means that the readiness of science/chemistry teachers towards the application of STEM learning is more likely to be ready. Based on this, it can be interpreted that some teachers have implemented STEM learning and have never implemented STEM learning, only to the extent that they are ready to do STEM learning. This readiness is also influenced by supporting factors such as: responsibility, enthusiasm, willingness to adapt, critical thinking, thinking contextually, aware of one's own worth and will, being able to integrate various scientific disciplines, carrying out partnership functions and being good at managing time. While the inhibiting factors are independence and awareness of strengths and weaknesses, this is because some teachers have never participated in STEM learning training and teachers have never tried to apply STEM education in science/chemistry learning. Furthermore, teachers find it difficult to improve their quality in preparation for implementing STEM learning and teachers are not yet proficient in preparing lesson plans that are appropriate to STEM learning.

Abstract

This research aims to develop chemistry learning media by integrating a small-scale laboratory (microscale lab) using the mamaq culture approach to improve students' conceptual understanding of acid-base material. This research is a development research with a 4D model design (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The media developed is a Student Worksheet in electronic form (E-LKPD) which is uploaded to the website, making it easy to access and allowing the addition of images and learning videos related to acid-base material by associating it with mamaq culture. In addition, this E-LKPD also contains quizzes, sample questions, and evaluations to measure students' understanding of the material studied. This LKPD was developed using an experimental approach, integrated with a small-scale laboratory that allows practicum outside the lab with smaller tools and materials without reducing the essence of the practicum. This medium has been validated by two validators using a validation questionnaire, and the data was analyzed with an average formula, resulting in a score of 3.32 in the very valid category. Furthermore, a trial was carried out to assess the practicality of this media, by collecting responses from teachers and students. The results of the practical test showed a score of 91% from teachers and 85% from students, both in the very valid category.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the need for further development of the CHEM-RILW model, an extension of the previously developed ILW model. The respondents involved in this study included two lecturers (N = 2) and forty-seven chemistry students (N = 47). Data was collected using observation sheets, questionnaires, critical thinking tests, and rubrics for argumentation and communication skills. The results indicated that the implementation of the learning process successfully integrated investigative activities carried out in the laboratory. This integration demonstrated that the pre-laboratory, laboratory, and post-laboratory stages were effectively implemented. However, the previous model did not sufficiently enhance students' interpretation and presentation skills. Additionally, the human element was not adequately emphasized, which limited the development of students' argumentation skills. Analysis of the lecturer questionnaire revealed a need to improve the learning model by incorporating more real-world applications of theory. Based on these findings, it is clear that further development of the ILW model is necessary. The CHEM-RILW model, as an enhancement, introduces real-world aspects and emphasizes the human element in learning, highlighting the relevance of community science in the context of chemistry concepts.
