Abstract

Eel (Anguilla bicolor bicolor) rearing activities that develop in Indonesia generally still use a large volume of water. The application of a recirculation system reduces water requirements and at a small volume of water, the load on the container to accommodate water becomes lighter so that several containers can be arranged vertically. This study aims to determine the best water volume in eel rearing with a recirculation system on production performance. This study used a completely randomized design with four treatments and three replications. The treatments, namely the difference in the volume of water (VA) used in the maintenance container, included VA 2.5 L (A), VA 3.5 L (B), VA 4.8 L (C) and VA 5.8 L (D). Eels were reared for 60 days in an aquaverticulture system with a stocking density of 10 fish per container. The test parameters in this study included survival rate (SR), specific growth rate (LPS), absolute weight growth (PBM) and feed conversion (FCR) and coefficient of final weight diversity (KKb). Other parameters analyzed include water and land use analysis. The results showed that aquaverticulture with multilevel containers on eel produced the best water volume of 5.8 L with high production performance (100% survival, specific growth rate 1.60%/day). The volume of water needed to produce 1 kg of eel for 1 year is 27.69 liters and the productivity of aquaculture land is 86.14 kg/m2. During the COVID-19 pandemic, this system design has been applied on a laboratory scale, but has not been applied commercially in the community.

Abstract

Kampung Perikanan Desa Patra Tani is located in Muara Enim Regency, precisely in Muara Belida district, a location that was once a place for aquaculture but the lack of care and management in that location has now become neglected. The objective of this research is to analyze the feasibility of land and make a master plan in Kampung Perikanan Desa Patra Tani, Muara Enim, South Sumatra as a location for aquaculture. Field observation activities include indirect (in situ) and direct (ex situ) water quality measurements at five observation stations, soil sampling, mapping using GPS, and market availability surveys. The results of data analysis on water quality using the scoring method show that in Kampung Perikanan Desa Patra Tani tends to be in the S2 class (moderately suitable) meaning that it has a few limiting factors in the waters so that several treatments are needed before cultivating. One of the commodities that are suitable for cultivation is tilapia because of high market demand is suitable to fill the shortage.

Abstract

Kabupaten Mesuji has many rivers, canals, reservoirs, and swamps that can be utilized as facilities for the development of fisheries. However, the level of fish production still relies on catches, which can result in reducing the availability and population of fish. The objective of this research is to create a master plan for establishing a center for local fish seed and broodstock production, considering the land suitability in Buko Poso Village, Way Serdang Sub-district, Mesuji District, Lampung Province. Field observation activities include in-situ and ex-situ water quality measurements at four observation stations, soil sampling at five points with three. The results of the soil texture analysis using the soil triangle indicate clay-textured soil. The suitable species for cultivation include Asian Redtail Catfish, Striped Snakehead, Clown Knifefish, Hoven's Carp, and Nile Tilapia. Infrastructure that can be built includes filter tank ponds, wastewater treatment plants, hatcheries, nursery ponds, broodstock maintenance ponds, breeding ponds, and other supporting facilities.

Abstract

Broodstock transportation is a critical phase in aquaculture in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), directly influencing brood quality and reproductive success. This study investigated the effectiveness of sweet potato leaf extract (Ipomoea batatas) at varying concentrations in a closed transport system to reduce stress and improve survival. A completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatments and three replications was employed: N1 (control, no extract), N2 (2 mL/L extract), N3 (4 mL/L extract), and N4 (6 mL/L extract). Parameters measured included survival rate (SR), daily growth rate (DGR), feed consumption (FC), water quality (temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, ammonia, nitrite), and stress response via blood glucose levels. Results indicated that adding sweet potato leaf extract significantly influenced water quality, reduced stress, and improved fish survival. The 4 mL/L treatment (N3) yielded the best outcomes, with a 100% survival rate and the lowest blood glucose level (77.67 mg/dL), suggesting its potential as an effective natural antistress agent during broodstock transport.

Abstract

The snakeskin gourami is a part of the superior commodity of freshwater fisheries in Indonesia because it has economic value and high demand. Technology is needed to optimize the growth of snakeskin gourami so that the production of snakeskin gourami from aquaculture becomes more stable. The method of adding calcium to the salinity water is a part of the technology to optimize the growth of cultured fish. The purpose of this research is to determine the best amount of CaCO3 calcium carbonate lime on the growth of snakeskin gourami that are maintained at 3 g L-1 of salinity. The tank is used in the form of an aquarium measuring 30x30x30 cm3 with a volume of water as much as 20 liters. The snakeskin gourami used were 8.7 ± 0.46 cm in length and weighed 8.3 ± 1.37 g. The fish are fed with the restricted method (5% of fish biomass). The study was conducted by applying calcium carbonate CaCO₃ at concentrations of 50, 100, 150, and 200 mg L⁻¹, with an additional control treatment that received no calcium carbonate application. The results showed that the best amount of CaCO3 calcium carbonate lime, as much as 100 mg L-1, showed 2.5 cm of total length growth, total weight growth of 6.35 g, daily growth rate of 2%, and survival rate of 93.3%. The best amount of CaCO3 calcium carbonate lime for 3 g L-1 of salinity water is 100 mg L-1. The best amount of CaCO3 calcium carbonate lime for the growth of snakeskin gourami that is maintained at 3 g L-1 of salinity is 100 mg L-1.
