Abstract

Background: The rapid growth of online gaming among students has raised concerns regarding behavioral regulation, responsibility, and social interaction in educational contexts. Objectives: This study aims to systematically review empirical research on the Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility (TPSR) model and student behavioral outcomes, and to explore its potential implications for online gaming and digital behavior contexts. Methods: A literature review was conducted using SAGE Journals and Taylor & Francis Online databases, selected due to their strong coverage of peer-reviewed research relevant to physical education and pedagogy. The search covered publications from 2014 to 2024 using the keywords “TPSR” AND “student” AND “behavior” AND (“online game” OR “gaming”). Inclusion criteria were: (1) peer-reviewed international journal articles, (2) empirical or review studies addressing TPSR and student behavior, (3) student populations, and (4) publication within the last ten years. Articles that did not explicitly address TPSR-based behavioral outcomes were excluded. From 43 initial records, 4 articles met the inclusion criteria and were synthesized using narrative synthesis. Results: The included studies primarily focused on TPSR implementation in physical education contexts, emphasizing behavioral responsibility, psychosocial mechanisms, and pedagogical approaches. Of the four studies, two employed quasi-experimental designs, one used survey methods, and one adopted a literature review approach. Overall, the findings indicate that TPSR-based learning is associated with improvements in personal and social responsibility, positive behavior regulation, and supportive learning climates, although direct evidence linking TPSR to online gaming behavior remains limited. Conclusions: The findings suggest that TPSR offers a promising pedagogical framework for fostering responsible behavior and social regulation among students in the digital era.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of futsal learning on the development of students’ life skills at public junior high school 1 Parongpong. The approach used is quantitative with a quasi-experimental method and nonequivalent control group design. The research sample consisted of two groups, namely the experimental group that received futsal learning based on life skills and the control group that followed conventional futsal learning. The research instrument used a validated and reliable life skills questionnaire. The results of data analysis using paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test showed that there was a significant increase in life skills in the experimental group compared to the control group. These findings indicate that futsal learning that integrates life skills values such as cooperation, communication, leadership, and decision making, can provide a positive contribution to students’ personal and social development. Thus, futsal can be utilized strategically as a learning medium that not only emphasizes physical aspects, but also strengthens students’ character and life skills.

Abstract

This study aims to systematically examine the effect of the Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) model on social skills and critical thinking abilities in Volleyball extracurricular activities. The research employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method consisting of planning, conducting, and reporting stages. Literature was collected from Google Scholar, Publish or Perish, Scopus, and ERIC databases covering publications from 2014–2024. The PRISMA selection process resulted in 12 eligible articles. The synthesis findings indicate that TGfU consistently improves students’ social skills, including communication, teamwork, empathy, and responsibility through tactical discussions and collaborative game situations. Furthermore, TGfU contributes to the development of critical thinking skills through game analysis, decision-making processes, and reflective tactical discussions. Several studies also reveal gender-based differences in responses to the implementation of TGfU. Overall, TGfU is an effective pedagogical approach for enhancing both social and cognitive development in Volleyball extracurricular contexts.

Abstract

The development of students’ non-academic potential through soccer extracurricular activities at the junior high school level is often hindered by limited internal school resources; therefore, a systematic approach that involves active parental support is needed to successfully foster students’ interests and talents. This study aims to comprehensively analyse the impact of various forms of parental support on the sustainability of soccer extracurricular programs at the junior high school level in Pekanbaru City. This study employs a qualitative approach using an Intrinsic Case Study design at three junior high schools (SMP Negeri 1 Pekanbaru, SMP Negeri 5 Pekanbaru, and SMP Negeri 10 Pekanbaru). Data were collected through triangulation (observation, interviews, and documentation) from parents, students, and coaches. The results indicate that parental support is vital and multidimensional, encompassing financial, moral, and logistical factors. This multifaceted support collectively has a significant impact on improving the quality of the development program. The conclusion affirms that parental support is a determining factor and catalyst for the success of a soccer extracurricular program. The implications of this study recommend establishing a structured parent-school partnership model to more comprehensively optimize the development of students’ interests and talents.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a thematic-based physical activity model to improve physical literacy in early childhood and to test its effectiveness. The method used is research and development (RD) following the ADDIE procedure, which includes analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The research sample consisted of 41 children aged 4-5 years. Instruments used were a needs analysis questionnaire, validation questionnaires from experts on the physical activity model and physical literacy, a learning module validation questionnaire, and a physical literacy observation sheet. The findings show that the developed model is very good. The effectiveness test using a pre-experimental design showed a significant improvement in children's physical literacy, with an average pretest score of 68.2 and posttest score of 89, and an N-gain score of 0.52 (moderate category). Interview results indicated a positive impact of the model on children's holistic development, including increased confidence, cooperation, and motivation for physical activity, despite challenges such as limited facilities, classroom management, and children's egocentric attitudes. In conclusion, the thematic-based physical activity model is feasible for use in learning and effective in improving physical literacy in early childhood. According to these findings, early childhood educators can improve children's physical, psychological, social, and cognitive development by incorporating thematic physical activities. They can also promote its inclusion in national literacy policies.

Abstract

The loss of self-confidence and responsibility in students can be caused by various factors, both internal and external, such as negative experiences, lack of positive support from people around them, and social comparisons between friends. One way that can be used to implement effective learning strategies is to ensure that teachers involve students actively, creatively, and enjoyably so that they feel more motivated to learn. One of the obstacles faced by teachers when implementing physical education is that students do not feel responsible for what they learn towards the learning objectives that are achieved and the use of appropriate learning models. Therefore, to support students' self-confidence and responsibility, the peer teaching learning model can be used in physical education and sports in schools. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of student development towards self-confidence and responsibility by using the peer teaching model. This study uses a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest–posttest design with the technique purposive sampling in Class VI SDN 1 Cisurupan Garut. Data were obtained using a questionnaire instrument of student self-confidence and responsibility. Research in this area can provide insight into how schools, teachers, and families can build good character in students, as well as identify factors that influence both characters. Self-confidence and responsibility are two main characters that shape a student's behavior, achievement, and social skills.

Abstract

Study purpose. Teachers' understanding of Meaningful Physical Education (Meaningful PE) is a key aspect in promoting meaningful learning experiences for students. While various professional development programs, such as Communities of Practice (CoP), have been implemented, empirical evidence regarding teachers' understanding based on professional characteristics remains limited. This study aims to analyze physical education teachers' level of understanding of Meaningful PE and examine differences based on gender and years of teaching experience. Materials and methods. The study used a quantitative survey design with a cross-sectional approach towards 66 physical education teachers who regularly participated in CoP. The instrument used was a Likert scale questionnaire (1–5) consisting of 16 statements related to conceptual understanding of Meaningful PE, which had an r = 0.873. The data were analyzed using the One-Way ANOVA test and the Tukey test. Results. The findings indicate that gender is not a significant differentiating factor in teachers' knowledge levels, whilst teaching experience contributes significantly to variations in knowledge. These results confirm that professional experience and involvement in collaborative learning communities play a greater role in shaping teachers' pedagogical literacy than demographic characteristics. Conclusions. This study reinforces the urgency of community-based continuing professional development to improve teachers' conceptual understanding of meaningful physical education pedagogy.
