Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of integrating Self-Directed Learning (SDL) and Project-Based Learning (PjBL) in enhancing students' scientific reasoning skills in biology education. An explanatory sequential mixed-methods design was employed, combining a quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design with qualitative exploration. The participants were 30 undergraduate students in biology education. Quantitative data were collected using a scientific reasoning test, while qualitative data were obtained through semi-structured interviews and reflective writings. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ scientific reasoning scores (p < 0.001) with a very large effect size (Cohen’s d = 2.35). Qualitative findings indicated that learning independence, authentic problem-solving, metacognitive reflection, and scientific collaboration contributed to this improvement. The integration of SDL and PjBL fosters a student-centered learning environment that supports cognitive and metacognitive development. This study offers an integrated pedagogical model and practical implications for enhancing higher-order thinking skills in biology education. Peran Self-Directed Learning dalam Meningkatkan Kemampuan Penalaran Ilmiah: Integrasi Project-Based Learning pada Mahasiswa Pendidikan Biologi ABSTRAK: Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji efektivitas integrasi Self-Directed Learning (SDL) dan Project-Based Learning (PjBL) dalam meningkatkan kemampuan penalaran ilmiah mahasiswa pendidikan biologi. Penelitian menggunakan desain explanatory sequential mixed methods dengan pendekatan kuasi-eksperimen one-group pretest–posttest dan eksplorasi kualitatif. Sebanyak 30 mahasiswa berpartisipasi dalam penelitian ini. Data kuantitatif diperoleh melalui tes penalaran ilmiah, sedangkan data kualitatif dikumpulkan melalui wawancara semi-terstruktur dan refleksi tertulis. Hasil menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan pada skor penalaran ilmiah mahasiswa (p < 0,001) dengan ukuran efek sangat besar (Cohen’s d = 2,35). Temuan kualitatif mengungkap bahwa kemandirian belajar, pemecahan masalah autentik, refleksi metakognitif, dan kolaborasi ilmiah berkontribusi terhadap peningkatan penalaran ilmiah. Integrasi SDL dan PjBL menciptakan lingkungan pembelajaran yang berpusat pada mahasiswa serta mendukung proses kognitif dan metakognitif. Penelitian ini berkontribusi dalam pengembangan model pembelajaran terintegrasi untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir tingkat tinggi dalam pendidikan biologi

Abstract

Media and teaching materials that suit learning needs can improve the quality of learning. The research aims to describe the use of media and teaching materials in science learning. The type of research is a survey. Research in June-September 2023 at Middle Schools in the Greater Malang Region. The research population was junior high school students and teachers in the Greater Malang area. The research sample was 584 students and 18 teachers. The data collection technique uses a media and learning material needs analysis questionnaire. The research instrument is a needs analysis questionnaire sheet. Data was analyzed descriptively, quantitatively, and qualitatively. The research results show that the media and teaching materials used by teachers are quite good, but teachers rarely use a variety of media and teaching materials. The learning media that teachers often use are learning videos and the teaching materials that are often used are textbooks. Science learning still requires supporting media and teaching materials, one of which is expected to be an e-module

Abstract

This study aims to strengthen community awareness of the importance of early childhood education through a participatory learning motivation program facilitated by university students in Sukaraja Village, West Lampung, Indonesia. Using a descriptive qualitative design with a participatory approach, the research involved 15 children aged 4-6 years and 10 parents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, field observations, and documentation, then analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model supported by triangulation to ensure validity. The findings demonstrate that participatory learning activities significantly enhanced children’s enthusiasm, parental involvement, and collective community awareness toward early education. The program successfully integrated intrinsic and extrinsic motivation by combining play-based methods, peer interaction, and contextual learning environments. Furthermore, two informal learning groups emerged as a sustainable community-driven initiative after the program ended. The study contributes a novel participatory motivation framework that integrates educational awareness, family engagement, and community empowerment to promote inclusive early education in rural contexts.

Abstract

Media merupakan alat yang penting dalam proses pembalajaran. Maka seorang calon pendidik perlu memiliki keterampilan dalam pembuatan media pembelajaran. Model pembelajaran yang dapat diterapkan salah satunya untuk mengasah keterampilan peserta didik dalam membuat media pembelajaran adalah dengan model pembelajaran berbasis proyek. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian PTK. PTK dilakukan dengan dua siklus. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah pedoman wawancara, lembar observasi, lembar kerja kelompok, tes untuk mengukur kemampuan pemahaman, catatan lapang, dan rubrik penilaian kualitas media pembelajaran. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa memiliki pemahaman yang bagus terkait media pembelajaran dan kualitas media pembelajaran hasil buatan mahasiswa juga bagus dengan penerapan model pembelajaran ini. Berdasarkan hal tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa model pembelajaran berbasis proyek dapat meningkatkan pemahaman dan kualitas media pembelajaran buatan mahasiswa.

Abstract

Pendidikan vokasi berperan penting dalam menyiapkan lulusan yang memiliki kompetensi sesuai dengan kebutuhan dunia usaha dan dunia industri. Namun, pembelajaran di Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan (SMK) masih menghadapi keterbatasan dalam menghadirkan pengalaman belajar yang kontekstual dan autentik bagi siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan penerapan model Hannafin dan Peck dalam pembelajaran kuliner berbasis kolaborasi industri serta menganalisis kontribusinya terhadap pembelajaran mendalam. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan pengumpulan data melalui wawancara, observasi, dokumentasi, dan refleksi tertulis siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan model Hannafin dan Peck secara sistematis melalui tahap analisis kebutuhan, perancangan, pengembangan, dan implementasi pembelajaran mampu meningkatkan pemahaman konseptual, keterampilan praktis, kreativitas, dan sikap kerja siswa. Kolaborasi antara sekolah dan industri menciptakan lingkungan belajar nyata yang mendorong keterlibatan aktif siswa melalui pengalaman kerja langsung. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi konseptual terhadap pengembangan pembelajaran mendalam dalam pendidikan vokasi melalui desain pembelajaran kolaboratif berbasis industri.

Abstract

Authentic assessment is challenging in the digital era, as students often rely on search engines and AI. This study conducts a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to explore the role of oral-based collaborative assessment in fostering student self-confidence and academic integrity, particularly in vocational education. Using the PRISMA method, 50 articles published between 2020–2024 were selected from Google Scholar, ERIC, and Scopus, supplemented by classical foundational literature. Findings indicate that oral-based collaborative assessment effectively enhances self-efficacy, strengthens accountability, and promotes honest academic behavior. These insights provide practical guidance for vocational teachers to design authentic, collaborative, and digitally adaptive assessment strategies.

Abstract

The background of this research is based on the global ecological crisis that demands a reform of biology education that is not only oriented towards mastery of concepts, but also on the formation of environmental conservation awareness and behavior. This research is motivated by the low conservation awareness of students in high schools which has an impact on the declining quality of the local environment. The purpose of this study is to describe the effectiveness of a socio-ecological-based ethnobiology approach in fostering environmental conservation awareness of students in biology learning. The research method used a quantitative descriptive design with 36 students as subjects. The instruments used included pre-test questions, participatory observation-based process assessment, post-test questions, and an environmental conservation awareness questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and N-Gain scores. The findings showed an average pre-test score of 75.22 (SD=3.47) increasing to a post-test score of 76.00 (SD=3.66). The average process score of 59.97 reflects varied active involvement of the 36 students, 18 (50%) completed the conservation awareness questionnaire with an average score of 79.78, which is categorized as "Good." A total of 83.3% of students achieved the "Good" to "Very Good" category in the post-test. The implications of the socio-ecological-based ethnobiology approach have proven effective in integrating local wisdom with modern biological concepts, thus having the potential to be widely implemented as an innovative strategy for environmental education in Indonesia.

Abstract

Members of Family Welfare Empowerment (FWE) in Jetis Hamlet, Malang, face challenges related to suboptimal family productivity and limited residential land. This community service initiative aimed to enhance family productivity by training 15 FWE members in aquaponic cultivation and harvest processing. Using intensive mentoring and a learning-by-doing approach, the program was conducted from July to December 2025 and included system installation, the maintenance of catfish (Clarias sp.) and vegetables, and product diversification. Evaluation using pretest and posttest instruments showed a substantial increase in participant capacity. Average knowledge scores increased from 37 to 82, whereas technical skills in system installation and product processing improved from 52 to 81. In addition to cultivation, participants successfully transformed harvested products into value-added products, namely Abon Aquale (catfish floss) and Keripik Viggieponik (vegetable chips). The results demonstrate that aquaponics is a viable urban farming approach for improving food security and economic independence among households with limited land.

Abstract

Background: The rapid development of technology in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era significantly affects various sectors, especially education. This research aimed to develop an innovative Android-based educational game, Bimanji (Biology Jumanji), as an interactive learning medium for ecosystem material in junior high school. Methodology: The study employed the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) development model. The product was tested at Junior High School of  Muhammadiyah 1 Surabaya. Data was collected through observations, interviews, documentation, and validation questionnaires by media, material, language, IT experts, and student and teacher responses. Bimanji integrates the concept of the popular Jumanji board game with interactive, contextual learning content, including 2D animation and multiplayer features. Findings: The content covers biotic-abiotic interactions, trophic levels, food chains, food webs, and ecological awareness. Validation results showed that Bimanji achieved a 92 % average validity score, indicating a high feasibility level without requiring significant revisions. Practicality tests with 16 students and teacher also resulted in high scores (93 % and 88 %, respectively), confirming its usability and effectiveness. The game enhances students' understanding of ecosystem concepts and motivation through fun and collaborative digital learning. Contribution: This research concludes that Bimanji is a highly valid, practical, and accessible educational medium suitable for classroom and independent learning. Limitations involve limited field trials and require broader implementation. Future development may integrate augmented reality to enrich the user experience further.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the feasibility of developing QR-Code-based catalogs, especially in the plant group of the Euphorbiaceae family. This research was an RD development research with the ADDIE method. This research included the analysis stage to assess the needs of the P-WEC conservation area, followed by the design stage to design a QR-Code-based catalog, then the development stage to create products in the form of QR-Code-based catalogs, especially for the plant group of the Euphorbiaceae family continued with validation by media experts and material experts and ended with the implementation phase in the form of a trial of catalog assessment by 20 visitors to the P-WEC conservation area. The results showed that based on the results of validation by media experts, they scored 4.17 and based on validation by material experts, they scored 3.95 with each having a decent category, then the trial results got a value of 4.16 with a decent category. QR-Code-based catalog development can be used because it has benefits in the form of efficiency because it prevents visitors from wasting time on search engines and being exposed to irrelevant information, this catalog can be accessed by mobile devices independently by visitors using a scanner application on Android to find out the variety and benefits of the Euphorbiaceae plant group.
