Abstract

Mangrove forests in Riau Province play a vital role in carbon sequestration, coastal protection, and marine biodiversity conservation. This research examines the general condition of mangrove forests in Riau Province through literature review and content analysis of scientific articles published between 2017-2021. With a total area of 138,434 hectares distributed across seven regencies and cities, Riau's mangrove forests demonstrate significant carbon storage capacity, estimated at approximately 148 million tons of CO2 absorption. The research focuses on multiple observation points including Indragiri Hilir, Siak, Dumai, and Kepulauan Meranti to assess mangrove density, vegetation diversity, and ecological conditions. The findings reveal a concerning trend of declining mangrove coverage over the years, with vegetation area decreasing from 9,759 ha in 1997 to 7,875 ha in 2019 in Pulau Rangsang alone. Industrial activities, particularly oil industries operating in Riau Province, have been identified as significant factors affecting mangrove quality through heavy metal contamination (Pb), pH changes, and dissolved oxygen levels in coastal waters. Despite these challenges, mangrove forests in Riau continue to support diverse marine biota, with studies documenting 14 true mangrove species and 8 associated species in Sungai Pakning, and various zooplankton communities in Bandar Bakau. The research underscores the urgent need for comprehensive conservation policies and rehabilitation efforts to preserve Riau's mangrove ecosystems and their critical environmental functions.

Abstract

The Betok fish (Anabas testudineus) is one of the freshwater fish species with potential for aquaculture. Larvae rearing faces challenges, namely low survival rates due to low nutrient content in the feed. Therefore, it is necessary to supplement Moina sp. with viterna. This study aims to determine the optimal dose of viterna in Moina sp. supplementation to improve the survival rate and growth of Betok fish larvae. The method used is an experiment. The experimental design employed is a Complete Randomised Design (CRD) with one factor and three treatments, each repeated three times. The treatments involved enriching Moina sp. with viterna at different doses: D0 = 0 ml/L (control), D20 = 20 ml/L, D40 = 40 ml/L, and D60 = 60 ml/L. The results of the study showed that the enrichment of Moina sp. with different viterna doses affected the survival rate and growth of betok fish larvae. The best treatment was D60, with absolute weight growth of 0.47 g, specific growth rate of 8.01%/day, absolute length growth of 2.64 cm, and survival rate of 93.33%. The water quality parameters obtained included temperature 26–29.1°C, pH 6.3–7.1, and dissolved oxygen (DO) 5.3–6.2 ppm.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of immersing local catfish (Clarias batrachus) eggs in black tea (Camellia sinensis) solution at different dosages and immersion durations on the percentage of adhesive eggs, fertilization percentage, hatching percentage, and larval survival rate. The study was conducted from 5 to 10 May 2025 at the Hatchery and Fish Breeding Laboratory, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Riau University, Indonesia. A factorial completely randomized design was applied with two factors: black tea solution doses (0, 6, 8, 10 g L-1) and immersion times (2, 4, and 6 minutes), each with three replicates, resulting in 36 experimental units. The observed parameters included the percentages of adhesive and non-adhesive eggs, fertilization and hatching percentages, survival rate, and water quality. The results showed that different dosages and immersion durations had a significant effect on all observed parameters (p < 0.05). The best treatment for the percentage of adhesive eggs was obtained at a concentration of 10 g L-1 with an immersion time of 6 minutes (W6D3). Meanwhile, the highest fertilization rate, hatching rate, and larval survival rate were achieved at a concentration of 10 g L-1 with an immersion time of 4 minutes (W4D3). The 10 gL-1 concentration was the most effective for all parameters. An immersion time of 4 minutes was more optimal for fertilization success, hatching, and larval survival, whereas a 6-minute immersion was more effective in reducing egg adhesiveness. These differences indicate that excessively long immersion durations may reduce the physiological quality of eggs, although they are effective at reducing egg adhesiveness in local catfish.

Abstract

A Muslim views that nature belongs to God and human beings must show that they are grateful by learning how to use and manage it well so that it can provide benefits to the mankind. Exploiting nature taught by Islam is based on the utilization of responsibility that provides benefits not only for its content but also its intact and sustainable opportunities to cultivate and for rehabilitation or to help speed up its recovery. Humans are required to have certain characters towards nature, which means dealing with nature by maintaining sustainability. Therefore, God gives cues to enable people to control themselves in exploitation of the natural resources which causes defection that can harm and even destroy human life. For that reason, Islam forbids destructing or harming the environment ranging from very small actions and trivial such as prohibiting throwing human faces under a fruit tree, in the river, on the road, or in the shelter areas. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is also very concerned about the preservation of wildlife, as described in the Hadith narrated by Abu Dawood. Even Prophet never reprimanded one of his companions during the Hijrah period to take the chicks out of the nest. Similarly, Islam cares about the environment created by God which human beings are mandated to maintain nature properly and responsibly. Keywords: Concept of Islam, the environment, education.Copyright © 2015 by Al-Ta'lim All right reserved
