Abstract

This study aimed to describe the pragmatic function of an Indonesian language teaching in Australia and describe the speech act strategies used by foreign teachers to teach Indonesian in Australia. It employs a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach to the pragmatic function construction in the classroom context. The data are negatively-constructed speeches of a teacher and students who join an Indonesia language learning program, The Apec Lesson Study Project, in Australia. Data are collected through documentation with extended techniques, listening, and recording. Meanwhile, the data are analyzed by using a method of padan pragmatics. The research results show that the pragmatic functions in Indonesian language teaching in Australia can be estimated into various categories and subcategories of speech acts: (1) combinative speech act, manifested into sub-speech acts asking-praising; and (2) directive speech act, manifested into sub-speech acts asking. These findings show how materials, methods, techniques are combined with speech constructions that are appropriate to the student's level. Meanwhile, the speech act strategy used by foreign teachers is a direct literal speech act strategy.

Abstract

This research examines the leadership of Pioneer Teacher Program (Guru Penggerak) graduates at the primary school level in Yogyakarta City. It is a descriptive qualitative research. This research applies educational sociology approach, particularly the role of teachers. Data was collected from interviews and literature reviews. The data analysis is based on the theory of teachers as leaders by Frank Crowther (1997). The results of this research: first, GP graduates of the Pioneer Teacher Program have successfully improved their quality and professionalism in the leadership. This improvement is manifested in proactive involvement in various leadership activities. Second, the Self-Efficacy of Prioneer Teacher is not prevalent. Some GP members face personal and casuistic issues, where their lack of confidence emerges when faced with strategic leadership positions, such as being a school principal. The research findings controvert the common narrative that the Pioneer Teacher Program produces successful teachers without any obstacles. These findings serve as a recommendation for the future Pioneer Taecher Program to emphasize and pay more attention to the self-confidence of its graduates in strategic leadership positions within their respective institutions.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the needs analysis of developing a Project Based Teaching Module to increase the creativity of PGSD S1 students in designing independent curriculum-oriented elementary school learning. This study employed a mixed method approach, specifically utilizing a sequential explanatory design combination research design. The study employed quantitative methodologies and focused on 4th semester students in the PGSD FIPP UNY Study Program, resulting in a population size of 215 students. The study employed a random sampling technique to choose a group of students in their 4th semester. The sample technique employed the Isaac and Michael Tables. The collection of quantitative data was conducted using survey methodologies. The research instrument employed questionnaires that had been previously delineated with a grid. Additionally, the questionnaire instrument that was created to assess student creativity underwent validation and reliability testing prior to its use in the field. The gathered quantitative data were evaluated using descriptive methods. The quantitative data analysis was conducted using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) software, specifically version 25. Qualitative data were acquired by the utilization of qualitative methodologies, specifically through the means of interviews, observations, and documentation approaches. The tools employed in qualitative research encompass interview protocols, observation protocols, and documentation protocols. Meanwhile, qualitative data in this study was analyzed using data analysis (Miles &; Huberman, 2014) which includes condensation data, display data, and conclusion drawing / verification. The result of this research is that PGSD FIPP UNY students need teaching materials to support learning, especially in the Elementary School Indonesian Language and Literature Education Development Course. This is evidenced by the results of questionnaires filled out by 62 respondents from different classes, showing that the need for teaching materials for the Education Development course is needed by them. It is proven by the results of the questionnaire that 100% of students stated that they needed teaching materials for tool development, especially those based on the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

The importance of teaching language to children underlies the birth of this study. Therefore, this study aims to describe the metaphorical form of online advertising discourse in Indonesia as a basis for teaching language in elementary schools. This research employs a qualitative descriptive study. Data are collected through non-participant observation and note-taking techniques. The data in this study are sentences that contain A Cognitive Pragmatic Review on The Metaphorical Expression of Indonesian Online Ads. Meanwhile, the source of data in this research is YouTube. The object of this research is Metaphorical Expression and the subject in this study is Indonesian Online Ads. The data collection technique used in this study is the Listening and Recording Technique. Meanwhile, the data analysis technique uses padan and agih techniques with using referential and pragmatics to show and compare the referent or the meaning of the source and the metaphorical expression of the target. The method is combined with a reflective-introspective to show how cognitive processes manage to produce a speech. Besides, the inductive inference technique shows the correspondence between the source and target concepts. The expression is metaphorically constructed based on the correspondence between the source and the target domain. Indonesian online advertisement is generally constructed with structural, orientational, and ontological metaphors. The metaphor of Indonesian online advertisement pragmatically functions as assertive information, directive invitation, and expression of wonder with a structural, lexical, and counter-factual presupposition. Meanwhile, the conceptual strategy is associative.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students’ activeness and paragraph writing skills through a straw media-assisted writing relay method in Grade VI B at Rangkang Bengkayang 09 Elementary School, West Kalimantan. The research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) involving 26 students, consisting of 13 male and 13 female students. The research instrument was a performance test. Data were collected through observations of students’ activeness and assessments of paragraph writing skills, and data analysis was conducted using a qualitative descriptive approach. The results show that students’ paragraph writing skills in Cycle I reach 76.92%, with a class average score of 73.42. In Cycle II, paragraph writing skills increased by 23.08%, achieving a 100% mastery level with an average class score of 90.42. Students’ learning activeness in Cycle I reaches 75% in the good category and increases to 100% in the very good category in Cycle II. These findings indicate that the straw media-assisted writing relay method effectively improves students’ activeness and paragraph writing skills. This study contributes to elementary language education by providing empirical evidence on the effectiveness of combining collaborative writing strategies with simple, low-cost learning media. It also offers a practical instructional model that teachers can readily implement to foster active participation and enhance writing competence, particularly in resource-limited classroom contexts.

Abstract

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and critical thinking have been incorporated into elementary school Natural and Social Science (IPAS) learning, although this integration is still limited. This study describes the application of ESD principles and examines the development of critical thinking in grade IV IPAS learning. A case study approach with a qualitative method with six grade IV teachers in Moyudan District, Sleman. Collect data through interviews, classroom observations, and document studies, then analyze using Miles and Huberman’s (1984) framework. The results show that ESD integration is limited to the IPAS subject and has not influenced school programs or culture. Students’ critical thinking competencies developed unevenly, with the analysis of information indicator emerging as the most prominent (43.7%), while the reflection on perspectives indicator showed no development. Limited worksheets further constrained students’ independence, making them reliant on teacher guidance. A whole-school strategy, problem-and project-based learning resources, and institutional support are all necessary, according to these findings. In addition to providing educators with helpful advice, the study demonstrates that Indonesian elementary schools continue to favor analytical skills when implementing ESD.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the current conditions of numeracy literacy learning in elementary schools and analyze the needs for developing microlearning-based e-modules as an innovative solution to support the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum. The study was motivated by the fact that numeracy instruction in schools remains dominated by traditional approaches, with limited integration of contextual digital media and minimal innovation in teaching practices. A descriptive qualitative approach was applied, involving five elementary schools in the Moyudan District, Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region. Participants consisted of five fifth-grade teachers and 83 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The findings revealed that while teachers recognize the importance of strengthening numeracy literacy as a 21st-century competence, they face various challenges, including limited time, insufficient digital pedagogical training, and the unavailability of relevant learning materials. The results highlight that the microlearning approach is pedagogically relevant because it provides concise, contextual, and interactive learning experiences that enhance students’ conceptual understanding and engagement. The study concludes that developing microlearning-based e-modules has significant potential to improve the quality of numeracy literacy learning in elementary schools, supporting a more adaptive, participatory, and technology-integrated learning environment.
