Abstract

This paper examines how Meteion’s Will to Power, a concept central to Friedrich Nietzsche’s philosophy, is manifested within the narrative of Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker. Meteion is a character from the game Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker, created by a scientist named Hermes. She and her sisters, known as the Meteia, were made to find the purpose of life but ended up wanting to destroy all existence after seeing too much destruction. Then, how is Meteion’s Will to Power reflected in Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker? Through qualitative method in explorative approach, this study analyzes the relationship between Meteion’s actions and Nietzschean nihilism, where the disintegration of values leads to a perception of life as meaningless. Nietzsche’s perspective posits the will to power as the primary driving force in humans, emphasizing self-determination and the exertion of one’s will on the environment. Meteion’s journey, marked by despair and a wish to end all suffering, shows how Nietzsche’s idea of the Will to Power can lead to nihilism, moving from a passive to an active form. In conclusion, Meteion’s actions highlight Nietzsche’s belief that overcoming nihilism needs a reevaluation of values, showing the Will to Power’s role in facing existential despair.

Abstract

This article underlines the perspective of sacrifice in a flash fiction of Ralph Henry Barbour & George Randolph Osborne entitled Thicker Than Water. Sacrifice is a gift for a better view of the future as it is in line with the short story that shows a sacrifice of a brother to his beloved sister who needs to be blood donated because her blood is thinner than ordinary blood. Through qualitative method in explorative approach, this paper points to the relation between Bataille’s theory and Barbour & Osborne’s short story. In analysis, Barbour & Osborn’s short story shows the sacrifice and sincerity of an older brother who had to donate a lot of blood and even hold the pain for the sake of his younger sister in order to save her from dying. In conclusion, sacrifice in this story is engaged with sincerity in which all goodness of one's self is given to the other.

Abstract

This study examines the portrayal of immature attitude as a manifestation of ambivalent attachment in Peter, in the novel PAX: Journey Home by Sara Pennypacker. Using John Bowlby’s attachment theory and a qualitative research approach, the study analyzes Peter’s emotional struggles, highlighting his dependency, impulsive reactions, and difficulty processing loss. His immature attitude is reflected in his self-doubt, emotional instability, and avoidance of painful memories, all of which comes from unresolved grief and inconsistent emotional support. However, as the novel progresses, Peter’s journey illustrates the potential for emotional growth through self-reflection and meaningful connections. This study highlights the role of attachment experiences in shaping emotional maturity and highlights the process of overcoming immaturity through personal development.

Abstract

This article examines how the movie script Everything Everywhere All at Once by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert portrays one of the characteristics of existential despair: a sense of meaninglessness. A sense of meaninglessness is a situation when an individual is at a loss of meaning or feels there is no point in their existence. The movie tells the journey of Evelyn Wang, who feels helpless as she struggles to maintain her relationships, particularly with her husband and daughter, while also facing overwhelming responsibilities in her daily life. Through the lens of Søren Kierkegaard’s existential despair theory, this study analyzes how Evelyn’s experience reflects the crisis of meaning and self-identity. The research explores how her journey across multiple realities serves as a metaphor for her search for purpose and self-acceptance, ultimately questioning whether true meaning can be found amidst chaos. By applying an existentialist framework, this article aims to provide deeper insight into how Everything Everywhere All at Once illustrates the modern struggle with meaning, identity, and personal agency.

Abstract

This paper explores the concept of selflessness in altruism, as demonstrated by Posey, the mother in Mitch Albom’s For One More Day. Through qualitative analysis, the study examines how Posey’s actions reflect altruistic behavior, focusing on her unwavering support and sacrifice for her son, Charley. The study investigates instances when Posey consistently puts her son’s needs above her own, even at the expense of her own personal interests. By analyzing specific moments in the novel, the study highlights Posey’s selflessness as an embodiment of altruistic love, demonstrating how her actions contribute to the emotional well-being and healing of her family. The analysis concludes that Posey’s selflessness is a profound representation of unconditional maternal love.

Abstract

This study examines how transformational leadership is portrayed, namely the idea of individual consideration, as exemplified by Gus March-Phillips in Guy Ritchie's film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. The movie, which is set during World War II, emphasizes how Gus's leadership promotes friendship, providing personal attention, mentoring and coaching, respecting different needs and learning styles, and creating a supportive environment. The research demonstrates Gus's capacity to coach, give individualized attention, and foster an inclusive atmosphere that improves his team's relationships and mission achievement through a qualitative examination of significant conversations and situations. The results show how individual consideration and regard for individual needs, which are hallmarks of transformational leadership, can improve team cohesiveness and personal development.
