Abstract

This study investigates the language ideology that informs policy and practice in military educational institutions, with a particular focus on Arabic instruction for military personnel. It explores how beliefs about Arabic as a strategic foreign language are embedded within institutional policies and pedagogical approaches. Employing a qualitative case study at the Language Education and Training Center under the Indonesia’s Ministry of Defense, data were gathered through document analysis, interviews, and classroom observations. The findings indicate that Arabic is ideologically positioned as a language of strategic significance for international defense cooperation, aligning with the national motto Trigatra Bangun Bahasa. The Arabic curriculum, guided by the Ministry of Defense Regulation No. 1 of 2024, reflects an instrumental ideology that links language learning with defense objectives and intercultural competence. This study underscores the dynamic interplay between ideology, policy, and pedagogy in shaping linguistic competence in military settings. Hence, it contributes to broader discussions on how institutional language policies articulate forms of strategic nationalism in multilingual contexts.

Abstract

One of the cooperative learning models is the Inside Outside Circle (IOC) learning method. The IOC-Post to Post Game method combines elements of cooperative learning with the Post to Post Game. In the IOC-Post to Post Game students work together in teams by exchanging information and collaborating to complete a given task or order. 21st-century learning requires students to have 21st-century skills to face future challenges. Based on that, a learning method is needed to achieve learning goals and train essential skills for 21st-century learners, including in Arabic language learning. In Arabic language learning, vocabulary mastery is the main foundation that must be possessed. A study conducted at MI Nurul Huda in the third grade aims to determine whether there is an influence of collaborative learning methods through IOC-Post to Post Game on students' mastery of vocabulary in the third grade. This study used a quantitative approach, namely a Quasi-Experiment with Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The data collection techniques used were tests in the form of pre-tests and post-tests and non-tests in the form of interviews and documentation. The findings of this study are that the collaborative learning method IOC-Post to Post Game has an effect on students' understanding of vocabulary with a moderate level of effectiveness, with an N-Gain Score of 0.320, and the collaborative learning method IOC-Post to Post Game has a positive impact on students' activity and social skills.

Abstract

The study of Arabic grammar within mixed-age classrooms has become an increasingly observable phenomenon in contemporary language learning settings. This intergenerational composition creates a distinctive instructional environment that presents both unique challenges and meaningful opportunities for Arabic language educators. This study explores how learning unfolds and how teachers manage and respond to the diverse classroom composition. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through classroom observations, and in-depth interviews with teachers, learners, and administrators, complemented by document analysis. The data were analyzed thematically using Instructional Design Theory (IDT) as the analytical framework. Findings reveal that the age-diverse learning environment brings variations in individual needs and motivations, which are actively accommodated through an adaptive learning cycle. In this cycle, strategies are continuously adjusted in response to students’ needs and interactions, ensuring dynamic and effective classroom engagement. This study represents one of the earliest efforts in Indonesia to explore the dynamics of mixed-age Arabic language learning, providing valuable insights for designing and managing instruction in age-diverse classrooms. The findings not only offer practical pedagogical guidance for educators but also establish a foundational framework for future scholarship on intergenerational learning within Arabic language education.

Abstract

The aspects of translation acceptability are not related only to the accuracy and clarity of the translation. They also cover the naturalness of translation. This study aims to reveal the degree of translation naturalness of the Quranic imperative verses. This evaluative study compares the translations of the verses by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (MORA) and the one made by Muhammad Thalib (MT). The study used embedded case study research. The findings of the study show that in general, the translations of the verses in the two versions have an acceptable degree of naturalness. However, when both were compared, the translation naturalness of MT’s translation is slightly more acceptable than the one made by the MORA. The translation acceptability of the two translations is inseparable from the translation techniques and procedures used in handling the translation units at the micro-level. The translation techniques such as reduction, transposition, amplification, and the like are deemed as being able to present the translation naturalness of the verses.

Abstract

This study examines the equivalence categories of Rendang spice terms into Arabic, determines the appropriate terminology strategy, and formulates a list of terms for Arabic teaching materials for Tourism Purposes. This is important to do for the need to develop Arabic terminology for specific purposes in the field of culinary tourism, in order to strengthen cultural diplomacy and support effective communication with tourists and connoisseurs of Indonesian culinary specialties originating from the Arab world. This study uses a qualitative approach with a content analysis method focused on the equivalent terms of rendang spice vocabulary and gastronomic analysis to explore the equivalent terms and cultural interpretations in the Arabic context, this study examines 24 spice data sourced from YouTube content @dapurudaawal, Rendang spice term equivalents are collected through the Al Munawwir Indonesian-Arabic dictionary, the Oxford English-Arabic Dictionary, and practical use in digital media both containing rendang recipes and non-recipes containing spice terms in Arabic. The results showed that of the 24 spices analyzed, nine had full equivalence, twelve had partial equivalence, and three had no equivalence. The most appropriate strategies included adopting established terms, functional descriptions for leaf species, and transliteration for endemic plants such as candlenut and masoyi. Furthermore, equivalence recommendations were formulated through gastronomic justification and terminological strategies.

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of Arabic speaking instruction in Thorndike’s behaviorism principles (law of readiness, law of exercise, and law of effect) at SMPIT Imam An-Nawawi Pekanbaru and explores their pedagogical implications for AI-assisted language learning. Using a qualitative case study design, the research involved classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation in Arabic speaking classes. The findings reveal that law of readiness was reflected through verbal stimulation and guided prompting that prepared students’ speaking engagement, while law of exercise appeared through repetition, drilling, and repeated speaking interaction that gradually formed students’ speaking habits. In addition, law of effect was implemented through positive reinforcement, corrective feedback, and motivational responses that strengthened students’ speaking confidence and verbal participation. The study also found that pedagogical mechanisms identified in the classroom, such as repetition, adaptive prompting, corrective feedback, and reinforcement-based interaction, conceptually align with the learning logic used in contemporary AI-assisted language learning systems. The study concludes that Thorndike’s behaviorism remains pedagogically relevant in Arabic speaking instruction and offers conceptual insights for the development of AI-assisted Arabic language learning, particularly in speaking habit formation and adaptive verbal interaction.
