Abstract

The nutritional status of TB patients is very important because it is a simple clinical sign to see the success of TB therapy. Health education or counseling is one way to change a person's knowledge and attitudes about health and can indirectly affect nutritional status. The assessment method for community service is carried out using lecture and discussion methods. Community service will be held on November 3, 2021, at the Merdeka Health Center in Palembang. The population of this activity is TB patients and drug-taking supervisors (PMO) in the working area of the Merdeka Palembang Health Center. The number of participants is 22 people. The evaluation was carried out by conducting pre-test and post-test to assess the increase in knowledge before and after education/counseling about nutrition in TB patients. The results of community service activities showed that the provision of education significantly affected the knowledge of the nutritional status of patients (p-value <0.05) between patients before being given education and after being given education. Suggestions that can be given are the need for knowledge about the nutrition and diet of TB patients to improve their nutritional status so that treatment can be optimal.

Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Leprosy remains a significant problem in Indonesia as the number of cases has not been eliminated until now. One of the cytokines that plays a role in the disease is interleukin-10 (IL-10), which has a dominant anti-inflammatory effect and influences the immunopathogenesis of leprosy. Genetic factors, including the IL-10 gene promoter polymorphism, affect the amount of IL-10 produced, thereby increasing the risk of leprosy. Therefore, the objective of this study is to gather information on the role of IL-10 gene promoter polymorphism in the development of leprosy.Method: A systematic review method was used to identify, evaluate, and extensively discuss published works through national and international journals such as Google Scholar, Science Direct, Elsevier, EBSCO, Medline, PubMed, Proquest, and Wiley. The study was conducted by searching relevant keywords related to the research topic in these databases. Subsequently, article selection was performed based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The selected articles were then evaluated for quality to ensure accuracy and reliability of the presented information. Finally, the results of this systematic review were used to obtain accurate and up-todate information regarding the role of IL-10 gene promoter polymorphism in leprosy. Results: This systematic review analyzed a total of 14 articles and revealed that results varied among study populations. However, there is consistent evidence to suggest that the IL-10 gene promoter polymorphism is associated with leprosy, which was found in the majority of the study populations. Conclusion: IL-10 gene promoter polymorphism tends to be associated with leprosy.

Abstract

Introduction: Anemia in pregnancy is a serious health problem for pregnant women that can increase the risk of postpartum hemorrhage, low birth weight, and fetal growth retardation. Low intake of foods that are sources of vitamin D causes low concentrations of vitamin D (25 Hydroxyvitamin D), which can increase hepcidin expression, thereby disrupting iron hemostasis which ultimately causes anemia in pregnant women. This study aims to determine the correlation between vitamin D levels and hemoglobin in anemia in pregnancy. Methods: This study used a case-control design with 68 pregnant women as respondents. Vitamin D levels were examined using 25 (OH) D levels and the ELFA method. Data on age, body mass index (BMI), frequency of pregnancy, education, and frequency of antenatal care visits were analyzed using the chi-square test and logistic regression analysis. Results: The results of the study show that the most significant proportion occurred in the age range of 20 – 35 years (84.5%), the majority of respondents had a normal body mass index (60.3%), respondents with a pregnancy frequency of 1-3 were 86.8%, most respondents had secondary education (63.2%), respondents who had regular prenatal visits amounted to 86.8%, the majority of respondent had a vitamin d insufficiency levels (48.5%). Bivariate analysis show revealed that significant influencing factors of anemia pregnancy were age (p=0.008), BMI (p=0.040), and frequency of ANC (p=0.012). There is no correlation between hemoglobin levels and vitamin D (p=0.707). Conclusion: This study did not correlate vitamin D levels and hemoglobin levels.

Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB), primarily caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.tb), remains a major global health burden. Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR-2), a critical component of the innate immune system, plays a key role in the host-pathogen interaction by recognizing specific components of the mycobacterial cell wall and initiating downstream inflammatory pathways. However, the dual role of TLR-2 in both protective immunity and immune evasion by M.tb contributes to the complexity of TB pathogenesis. This study aims to investigate the role of Toll-Like Receptor-2 (TLR-2) in the pathogenesis of pulmonary tuberculosis, including its immunological mechanisms, relationships with disease severity, and the potential of TLR-2 as a diagnostic and therapeutic target. This literature review systematically analyzed molecular mechanisms involving TLR-2 signaling in pulmonary TB using peer-reviewed primary and secondary sources from experimental and clinical studies. Emphasis was placed on signal transduction (NF-κB and MAPK), cytokine profiles, antigen presentation, and the impact of TLR-2 gene polymorphisms on TB susceptibility. Activation of TLR-2 through ligands such as lipoproteins, lipoarabinomannan (LAM), and PE/PPE proteins initiates immune responses via MyD88-dependent pathways, leading to the release of proinflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6, IL-12). TLR-2 also enhances the function of macrophages and dendritic cells, promoting Th1-mediated immunity. However, chronic or excessive stimulation of TLR-2 can suppress antigen processing, promote IL-10 expression, inhibit phagolysosome fusion, and facilitate M. tb survival within host macrophages. Polymorphisms in the TLR-2 gene (e.g., rs3804099) have been associated with increased susceptibility and variable clinical outcomes in PTB. TLR-2 plays a paradoxical role in pulmonary tuberculosis by mediating both protective immunity and facilitating immune evasion by M.tb. Understanding the balance of TLR-2 signaling and genetic variation is crucial for developing immunomodulatory therapies and personalized interventions in TB management.

Abstract

Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) is a collection of symptoms arising from excessive computer use, including eye strain, watery eyes, itching, redness, dryness, blurred vision, and neck pain or headaches. According to WHO data, approximately 40–90% of workers who use computers experience CVS, as also reported by employees at PT. X. This study aims to analyze the relationship between factors such as age, length of service, gender, use of glasses, refractive disorders, eye rest time, working duration, lighting level, use of air conditioners, and Visual Display Terminal (VDT) settings with the incidence of CVS among PT. X employees. This mixed methods study involved 120 employees who work in front of computers daily. Data were collected using questionnaires, interviews, and observation, then analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The results showed that 78.3% of respondents experienced CVS. Significant relationships were found between age, gender, years of service, use of glasses, refractive errors, eye rest time, lighting, and VDT arrangement with the occurrence of CVS. The main protective factor was the use of glasses, while dominant risk factors included suboptimal lighting and being male. These findings highlight the importance of promotive and preventive policies, such as eye health education, implementation of ergonomic SOPs, and regular health checks to reduce CVS prevalence and improve work productivity at PT. X.

Abstract

Vitamin D plays a role in the healing process of diabetic foot ulcers (DFU); it can improve the immune system, regulate inflammation function, and regulate growth factors in diabetes mellitus (DM). The immunomodulatory effects of vitamin D include reduced production of IL-2, IL-6, and TNF-alpha and increased production of IL-10. It also increases the activity of antimicrobial peptides (AMP) such as cathelicidin, and it promotes the differentiation of monocytes into macrophages, phagocytosis, and the production of lysosomal enzymes. Furthermore, vitamin D stimulates growth factors including vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β). In this study, the incidence of DM and DFU in DM patients at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang will be compared to serum vitamin D levels. This research uses quantitative methods with an analytical observational design. The Mean vitamin D serum level was 11,727 ng/mL, and there was a significant association between serum vitamin D deficiency and DFU (p-value; 0.036 < 0.05). There was a significant association between serum vitamin D deficiency and DFU occurrence (p-value; 0.036 < 0.05) in Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital Palembang. Based on the results of this study, we proposed that patients with diabetic foot ulcers should have their serum vitamin D levels checked, and that vitamin D should be given to them as part of their therapy.

Abstract

Palembang is the city with the highest incidence of anemia in 2023, a condition that linked to maternal malnutrition. Gestational weight gain (GWG) is one of the indicator of maternal nutritional status. One of the factor that may influence the nutritional status is household income because it determines how a person afford their own nutrition. This study used a cross-sectional design and was conducted from August to October 2024. Data collection involved body weight measurement using the TANITA BC-601 and structured questionnaires. GWG was calculated as the difference between current body weight and pre-pregnancy weight, then the adequacy of GWG was assessed by comparing current weight with the ideal weight for gestational age. Eligible participants included singleton pregnant women without chronic illnesses who had completed the triple elimination program and received antenatal care at public health centers or private midwifery practices. Data analysis was performed with Chi Square analysis by using SPSS 27th version.
