Abstract

Teak forests became one of the important resources in Java in the past. Teak forests did not only provide economic benefits for residents to fulfill their daily needs but also provided other benefits, especially in stabilizing the forest environment. However, the condition began to change when the teak forests exploited. In the 19th century and early 20th century, the environmental teak forests experienced degradation and deforestation that was difficult to control. The presence of teak logging companies at the end of the 19th century became the starting point of the accelerated deforestation. In running a business, they used modern tools that can simplify the process of harvesting and be transporting of teakwood. Some of the modern tools called trams and trains which were used to carry teak logs from the forests to shelters and ports. By utilizing modern transportation, teak woods can be transported quickly, accurately and massively. This paper shows that the opening of tram and train rail road’s in teak forests in addition to facilitating the transportation of goods and people, also led to the improvement and expansion of teak massive deforestation.

Abstract

Abstract

Scientific learning in the 2013 Curriculum, which should be able to integrate local history content into learning, experiences more obstacles in its implementation. The presence of the Merdeka Curriculum brings a new direction in learning history, especially regarding the need for local historical content to be integrated into learning. Therefore the purpose of writing this article is (1) to describe local history as learning content in the Merdeka Curriculum; (2) to describe the cultural remains at the Loyang Mendale and Loyang Ujung Karang sites as local historical content. The writing of this article uses the literature study research method. The results of the research show that in the Merdeka Curriculum local history content is included in the learning outcomes that must be mastered by students during the learning process. Then the Loyang Mendale and Loyang Ujung Karang sites as local historical content are urgently needed to be integrated into learning because they explain prehistoric life in central Aceh region since the Mesolithic period, and are also by the scope of material in phase E (grade X) which has been defined in the Merdeka Curriculum, namely The Origin of the Ancestors and the Spice Path of the Indonesian Nation.

Abstract

Gandrung is one of the oldest forms of performing arts in Banyuwangi. Gandrung becomes a symbol of political communication through culture. This is clearly seen during the democratic party period. The purpose of this research is to reveal and criticize Gandrung which is used as a medium of political communication by political actors in Banyuwangi. The form of this research is descriptive qualitative. The theory used is Gramsci's hegemony. Data collection techniques using interviews, observation, and content analysis. The data analysis technique used in this study is an interactive analysis. The results of the study show that the high creativity of the people of Banyuwangi in folk art is recognized by the local government. This has become a loophole for political actors in Banyuwangi to insert political messages into Gandrung art performances. Thus, these political messages can be easily accepted by the public. This proves that if Gandrung's art is studied using Gramsi's theory, it shows that Gandrung is totally hegemony. Total hegemony is characterized by close to total mass affiliation. Society shows a strong degree of moral and intellectual unity, which is evident from the organic relationship between the government and the governed. This relationship is not colored by contradictions and antagonisms either socially or ethically.

Abstract

The freedom of media since the death of the New Order has made its development so significant, especially in Indonesia. Artists have a platform to create creative ideas through media such as creating movies or music. The issue of power that is not in favor of the lower middle social class makes music present as a tool to respond to difficult situations and even become a tool of resistance to the government or those in power. This research is a qualitative study using Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis theory which has three dimensions in the text of the song Jogja Ora Didol by Jogja Hip-Hop Foundation. The musical background of Jogja Hip-hop Foundation and the language used in the song contain resistance. This study aims to see the extent to which the song Jogja Ora Didol influences and builds the power of resistance to the domination that exists in Yogyakarta. The song Jogja Ora Didol was created in conjunction with the many protests of empowered citizens against the massive construction of hotels in the Yogyakarta area. Resistance discourse is viewed from three levels, namely text, discourse-practice, and socio-cultural. This research aims to 1) Represent the text of the song Jogja Ora Didol, 2) The background of the creation of the song and 3) the influence of the song to create and build resistance. The results of this study show that the resistance of word units and metaphors form a unit of song text. In discourse practice, resistance is formed from the process of text production and consumption. Finally, in the sociocultural order, it is the macro factor that gives influence after the presence of Jogja Ora Didol song.
