Abstract

This research investigates the factors influencing the interest of village youth in rice farming in Banjar Village, Panggul Subdistrict, Trenggalek Regency, conducted from October until December 2023. Factors such as motivation, perception of agriculture, social environment, and government support are examined to understand their impact on youth interest in farming. The declining youth labor force in agriculture poses a significant challenge, threatening the sustainability of family farms and agricultural development. The research employs a Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) analysis to measure the relationships between the identified factors and youth interest in farming. Data collection involves primary and secondary sources, with respondents providing information on demographics, current occupation, motivation, perception of income, risk, work environment in rice farming, and the influence of family and school environments. The purposive method was used within this article, counting 50 local youth aged 15-30 years old with an experience or family background as a farmer. The analysis confirms that youth perception of agriculture, social environment, and government support significantly affect (<0,05) youth interest in rice farming, while motivation alone does not significantly impact. The study's measurement instruments demonstrate satisfactory convergent validity, construct validity, and composite reliability. Recommendations include maintaining positive perceptions of agriculture, educating rural communities on its importance, and enhancing government support through subsidies, access to capital, training, and extension programs. The research provides valuable insights for promoting agricultural development and ensuring the continuation of family farms by addressing the factors that influence youth interest in farming.

Abstract

The high market demand for vegetables guaranteed to be safe, clean, and of excellent quality is increasingly in demand by modern society. The higher demand for hydroponic vegetables opens up promising business opportunities for farmers, so hydroponic vegetable producers need to understand the factors influencing consumer purchasing decisions to win fierce market competition. This study aimed to analyze the effect of mixed marketing and consumer perceptions on purchasing decisions for hydroponic vegetables at Kebun Hidroponik Griya Botani. The research was conducted from  February until  April 2024 at Jl. Perum Pondok Mutiara, Banjarbendo, Kec. Sidoarjo, Kab. Sidoarjo, Central  Java. The number of respondents in this study was 50, selected by chance (accidental sampling), and the data obtained were analyzed using SEM PLS 8.0. The results showed that the 7 P mixed marketing (product, price, place, promotion, people, physical evidence, and process) significantly positively affected purchasing decisions for hydroponic vegetables. Meanwhile, consumer perception (health awareness and food safety) had no significant effect on purchasing hydroponic vegetables. So, Kebun Hidroponik Griya Botani must regularly participate in events, such as product marketing or other festivals, in order to educate the public or consumers about the benefits and advantages of hydroponic vegetables from cultivation to post-harvest through word of mouth and distributing pamphlets so that people and consumers are interested in buying hydroponic vegetable products.

Abstract

Poverty among farmers is still present despite efforts to develop agriculture to increase farmers' income. The amount of household income influences the degree of household well-being. When household income rises, household expenditure typically increases accordingly. Consequently, higher-income households achieve greater prosperity than those with lower incomes. Sources of household income include earnings from farming activities such as cultivation, activities outside cultivation, and activities beyond the agricultural sector. The poverty rate in Batu City continues to decline because many residents have switched professions from farmers to the tourism sector. After all, farming does not provide welfare for farmers. This paper analyzes household income, assesses potato farmers' welfare, and identifies factors influencing potato farmers' welfare in Sumberbrantas Village, Bumiaji District, Batu City. The research period is March 2024—Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling method with 67 respondents. Primary data collection was done through interviews and the use of questionnaires. The first objective is analyzed by calculating on-farm, off-farm, and non-farm income. The second objective was analyzed by measuring the level of well-being using Sajogyo's theory. The third objective is analyzed using binary logit regression. The findings of this study show that the average farmer's income is relatively high, with the highest income coming from potato farming.

Abstract

Rice is an essential commodity in Indonesian society's socio-economic life. This study aimed to determine the influence of rice imports in Indonesia from 2013 to 2022 and the implications of government policy in Indonesia. Data from the Indonesian Central Statistics Agency (BPS) spanning 2013 to 2022 was obtained as secondary information. The method applied involves using dummy variables in multiple linear regression analyses, classical assumption tests, and multiple linear regression analyses. The variables used in this analysis are rice production (X1), rice price (X2), population (X3), consumption (X4), land area (X5), exchange rate (X6) and rice imports (Y). The study outcomes obtained: simultaneously, the variables rice production, rice price, population, consumption, land area, and exchange rate affect rice imports and partially have a meaningful positive and negative effect on rice imports. The results of this research also show that simultaneously, the rice production variable on the dummy variable implementing the rice import policy has a significant influence on rice imports in Indonesia, the rice price variable on the dummy variable implementing the rice import policy has a meaningful influence on rice imports in Indonesia, simultaneously the population variable on dummy variable implementation of rice import policy has a meaningful influence on rice imports in Indonesia, simultaneously rice consumption variable on dummy variable implementation of rice import policy has a significant influence on rice imports in Indonesia, simultaneously land area variable on dummy variable implementation of rice import policy has a meaningful influence on rice imports in Indonesia. Simultaneously, the exchange rate variable on the dummy variable implementing the rice import policy has a meaningful influence on rice imports in Indonesia.

Abstract

One of Indonesia's leading commodities, characterized by high economic value and broad market demand both domestically and internationally, is cinnamon, which is frequently utilized in the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics industries. This research aims to deeply analyze the marketing risks experienced by distributors, thereby identifying the main opportunities and challenges in enhancing cinnamon marketing at UD Hilal Jaya Makmur, Mojokerto, by employing a descriptive qualitative and quantitative methodological approach, along with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Fishbone Diagram, and Pareto analysis. The research findings indicate that the primary risks faced include uncertain price fluctuations and high transportation costs, while opportunities arise through marketing digitalization and establishing long-term contracts with partners, given the high global demand for spices. However, significant challenges persist, encompassing limited market access, inconsistent product quality standards, and continuously rising distribution costs; therefore, it is recommended that the company create stable price contracts with regular buyers, enhance the raw material storage system to maintain quality, implement quality standards compliant with regulations, expand sales reach via both offline and online channels, and overall improve distribution efficiency to address these challenges and support business sustainability.

Abstract

Kemiri Village relies on the plantation sector, especially durian, as its main commodity. The decline in durian farming income over the past two years has prompted farming households to seek additional sources of income through off-farm and non-farm businesses. This study aims to (1) analyze the income and expenditures of durian farming households and (2) analyze the welfare levels of durian farming households. A quantitative descriptive method with stratified random sampling was employed based on the number of durian trees taken from 50% of the population, resulting in a sample of 53 respondents. The data analysis used included income, expenditure, contribution, and the Net Top Replacement Price Ratio (NTRPR) analysis. The results showed that the annual income from durian farming was IDR 311, 926, 385. Household expenditures amounted to IDR 43, 431, 073 per year, including food and non-food items. The welfare level of durian farmers using NTRPR with a value of 5.5 indicates that NTRPR > 1 means that, on average, farmers are able to meet the needs of their households from their agricultural and non-agricultural businesses. The results of this study highlight the importance of strengthening durian agribusiness and diversifying income to maintain the sustainable welfare of farming households in Kemiri Village.
