Abstract

The floods that struck Medan City between late November and early December 2025 significantly affected the psychosocial wellbeing of children aged 4–7 years living in evacuation shelters. Children in this developmental stage are highly vulnerable to stress, anxiety, and behavioral changes following disaster exposure. This community service program aimed to implement an Integrated Psychosocial Support Model designed to promote emotional recovery among children and strengthen the capacities of parents and shelter facilitators. The methods included play-based psychosocial activities, safe digital literacy education, parental engagement sessions, and capacity-building for local volunteers. The intervention was conducted at two evacuation shelters in Medan Labuhan and Belawan, involving approximately 220 children. The results demonstrated substantial improvements in adaptive behavior indicators—group participation, ability to follow instructions, positive emotional expression, and peer interaction—with an average increase of 1.25 points. Social transformations also emerged, including the establishment of child-friendly spaces, enhanced supportive parenting practices, and the rise of local leaders within the community. These findings indicate that integrated psychosocial support is an effective approach for post-disaster child recovery and can be replicated in similar humanitarian settings.

Abstract

This study analyzes the burden on health services and the level of regional preparedness during the 2025 flood disaster in North Sumatra Province. Using a descriptive-analytic design with secondary data obtained from official disaster reports, this research examines the number of affected households, displaced populations, mortality, and emergency response status across 18 districts and cities. Findings show significant variations in the magnitude of impacts, with regions experiencing higher numbers of affected populations demonstrating greater pressure on health services, particularly in emergency care, communicable disease prevention, and shelter-based health management. Furthermore, regions that activated emergency response status earlier and demonstrated stronger preparedness were found to experience lower health burdens. These results highlight the importance of integrating disaster preparedness into local health system planning to strengthen resilience against hydrometeorological disasters. The study emphasizes the need for improved intersectoral coordination, enhanced health logistics capacity, and readiness of health personnel to respond effectively to large-scale emergencies.

Abstract

Nurse managers play an essential role in coordinating emergency department functions, especially during global health crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic. In low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), including Indonesia, their experiences have not been widely explored, despite facing unique logistical, emotional, and cultural challenges. This study aims to explore the lived experiences of nurse managers in overseeing COVID-19 screening procedures in the emergency department of RSUP H. Adam Malik Hospital in Medan, Indonesia. A descriptive phenomenological approach was employed to capture the essence of their experiences. Ten nurse managers were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews lasting 30 to 60 minutes, supplemented by field notes and document analysis. Colaizzi's seven-step method guided the analysis, with credibility ensured via member checking and triangulation using multiple informants. The study identified five major themes: (1) psychological distress in the early phase of the pandemic, stemming from fear, uncertainty, and concern for family safety; (2) challenges in implementing screening, including patient resistance, resource limitations, and PPE shortages; (3) proactive efforts for early COVID-19 detection through triage protocols and symptom-checking tools; (4) improvements in screening management, emphasizing leadership, education, and compliance; and (5) adaptation and resilience, as nurse managers developed strategies to cope with evolving demands and pressures. These themes reveal both universal healthcare struggles and context-specific issues-such as anxiety about infecting multigenerational households-that shaped nurse managers' responses. This research contributes to the limited body of qualitative evidence on pandemic leadership in LMICs. The insights gained underscore the importance of robust emergency preparedness, targeted psychological support for healthcare leaders, and ongoing improvements in screening protocols. Abstract

Outpatient services at community health centers experience a high and dynamic service burden influenced by evolving disease patterns in the community. However, the use of disease pattern data to support outpatient service management remains limited and is often restricted to administrative reporting purposes. This community service activity aimed to enhance the capacity of health workers and managers at Darussalam Community Health Center to utilize disease pattern data as a basis for managing outpatient service burden. A community-based participatory approach was applied through mentoring, training, and hands-on practice in data analysis using routine data from the Integrated Recording and Reporting System of Community Health Centers (SP2TP). The subjects of the activity were health workers and managerial staff at Darussalam Community Health Center. The results demonstrated an improvement in participants’ understanding and ability to analyze disease pattern data, reflected by an increase in average knowledge scores from a moderate to a high category. Behavioral changes were also observed, including increased data-based discussions, the emergence of internal change agents (local leaders), and the development of collective awareness regarding the importance of data-driven outpatient service management. This community service activity contributed to strengthening outpatient service management and fostering a data-driven work culture at Darussalam Community Health Center.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop an integrated framework for strengthening public health system resilience in the face of increasing environmental and disaster-related threats. While research on environmental health risks, administrative health governance, and disaster preparedness has progressed independently, public health systems continue to suffer from fragmented strategies. This fragmentation weakens coordinated responses during crises such as climate-driven disasters, pandemics, or infrastructure failures. Therefore, this review aims to synthesize current approaches and propose a unified model for adaptive and sustainable health system resilience. Materials and methods. A structured literature review was conducted using the PRISMA methodology. A total of 36 peer-reviewed articles published between 2018 and 2025 were analyzed. Selected studies were categorized into four thematic areas: environmental health, health governance, disaster preparedness, and integrated resilience models. Quantitative frameworks such as Delphi–AHP and system dynamics were reviewed alongside qualitative governance and policy analyses. Results.The findings reveal significant gaps in current public health resilience strategies. Although predictive modeling and hospital safety protocols are widely discussed, their implementation is often localized and not mainstreamed into national health policies. Governance issues such as fragmented leadership, limited budgets, and lack of inter-agency coordination were consistently cited. Only a few studies presented cross-sectoral resilience models. Conclusions.A unified resilience framework is essential for modern health systems. It must combine environmental forecasting, flexible governance, community engagement, and disaster preparedness. The proposed model provides a foundation for future research and policy innovation aimed at achieving resilient, equitable, and proactive health systems.

Abstract

The study purpose was to examine the role of husband support in the success of exclusive breastfeeding among mothers of infants aged 0–6 months. Despite strong recommendations by the World Health Organization (WHO) for exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of life, global and national coverage—particularly in Indonesia—remains below target. Among various determinants, husband support has emerged as a significant psychosocial and environmental factor influencing breastfeeding practices. This literature review synthesizes empirical findings from 25 peer-reviewed studies published between 2015 and 2025, aiming to identify the forms of husband support most strongly associated with exclusive breastfeeding success and to analyze the theoretical frameworks that explain this relationship. Materials and methods. A systematic literature review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines. Databases including PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, and Garuda were searched using keywords such as husband support, exclusive breastfeeding, and breastfeeding self-efficacy. Studies were included if they examined husband involvement in exclusive breastfeeding and were published in English or Bahasa Indonesia within the last decade. Results. The findings revealed that emotional and instrumental support were the most influential factors in maintaining exclusive breastfeeding, while informational and appraisal support enhanced maternal confidence and motivation. Husband participation in antenatal education and shared household responsibilities significantly increased breastfeeding duration and exclusivity rates. Conclusions. Husband support plays a pivotal role in promoting and sustaining exclusive breastfeeding. Integrating men into family-centered breastfeeding education and policy interventions is essential to improve maternal and infant health outcomes.

Abstract

Anak-anak adalah kelompok yang rentan terhadap infeksi cacing, karena mereka sering bermain di tanah yang terkontaminasi dan belum sepenuhnya memiliki kebiasaan kebersihan yang baik. Infeksi cacing dapat menghambat pertumbuhan dan perkembangan anak, mempengaruhi penyerapan nutrisi, dan mengganggu sistem kekebalan tubuh mereka. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan pengetahuan dan pemahaman pelajar akan bahaya dan pencegahan kecacingan. Didapati adanya peningkatan pengetahuan pada siswa SDN 060883 sebagai sasaran dari penyuluhan. Siswa mulai memahami penyebab kecacingan, jenis-jenis cacing yang dapat hidup di tubuh manusia , mengetahui kebiasaan yang dapat menyebabkan kecacingan, gejala-gejala kecacingan, dan mulai mengetahui upaya pencegahan kecacingan, dapat memperagakan cara mencuci tangan yang benar.

Abstract

Food management at the Melati Perbaungan hospital's nutritional installation has not gone well, menu planning has not run optimally. The vendor's delivery of food ingredients is not on time. The taste and texture of the food is still lacking. The material received is not suitable. Food storage areas do not meet standards. The aim of this research is to determine menu planning, procurement of food ingredients, receipt of food ingredients, storage of food ingredients and processing of food ingredients in the Nutrition Installation of Melati Perbaungan Hospital. This research was conducted using a descriptive research design with a qualitative approach. There were 5 research informants, namely the Main Informant consisting of the Head of the Nutrition Installation and the Person in Charge of the Cook, and the Supporting Informant consisting of the Waiter. The conclusion of the research is that the administration of food in the Nutrition Installation is still not in accordance with the steps or guidelines issued by the Indonesian Ministry of Health, there are still obstacles in the administration of patient food, for this reason it is recommended that the Nutrition Installation pay more attention and be more careful in paying attention to the food administration process in order to obtain good results and more guaranteed quality of patient food.

Abstract

Individuals and groups, including the general public, are currently required to be able to provide immediate assistance when facing emergency conditions. To ensure assistance is provided according to proper procedures, it is necessary to offer training on Basic Life Support (BLS). Students of SMK Kesehatan Haji Sumatera Utara, who are teenagers with significant potential, are ideal candidates for such training. Although they are organized into a KKR Cadre Team or Youth Health Cadre group, they currently lack the necessary knowledge and need to be equipped with BLS skills. The purpose of this service is to enhance the knowledge and technological capabilities of students at SMK Kesehatan Haji Sumatera Utara regarding Basic Life Support in emergency cases. The method used includes interactive lectures, questions and answers, pre-tests, interventions, and post-tests. The results of the counseling and training showed a marked improvement in knowledge about Basic Life Support and an increase in the skills required to administer BLS. It is essential to carry out continuous counseling and socialization efforts within the school, particularly in the area of Basic Life Support

Abstract

Kejadian henti napas dan henti jantung di komunitas memiliki keterkaitan erat dengan epidemiologi penyakit jantung. Berdasarkan data Kementerian Kesehatan Republik Indonesia tahun 2024, prevalensi penyakit jantung di Indonesia mencapai 17 dari 1000 orang, yang meningkatkan risiko henti jantung dan henti napas di lokasi yang tidak dapat diprediksi. Remaja, sebagai bagian dari keluarga dan komunitas, harus memiliki kemampuan dasar untuk memberikan bantuan hidup dasar (BHD) guna mengurangi komplikasi kematian akibat penyakit jantung. Tujuan pelatihan BHD yang dilakukan di SMA Al-Fityan Medan adalah untuk (1) memberikan edukasi kesehatan tentang penyakit jantung kepada remaja, (2) mengajarkan peran remaja dalam kehidupan sehari-hari untuk mengurangi risiko penyakit jantung sejak dini, dan (3) memberikan pelatihan BHD kepada remaja. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat (PKM) ini mencakup edukasi kesehatan dan demonstrasi BHD. Pelatihan ini terbukti bermanfaat, dengan peningkatan signifikan dalam pengetahuan peserta, dibuktikan melalui perbandingan hasil pre-test dan post-test (p<.000). Peserta juga mampu memberikan BHD dengan baik setelah pelatihan. Edukasi tentang penyakit jantung dan pelatihan BHD pada remaja penting dalam pencegahan penyakit jantung dan komplikasinya
