Abstract

This study aims to determine the profile of livestock and explore sustainable incomes for beef cattle fattening farmers with the location of the agricultural area and the Tempeh Factory area in Konda Sub-district, South Konawe, Southeast Sulawesi. Data retrieval was used the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) method, which was an approach that involves family members or individuals to analyze the reality of the living conditions they run. This study involved 45 farmers who were selected by purposive sampling based on five considerations. The analytical model used to test the differences between the two locations wasthe independent T-test analysis. The results showed that the age of the breeder, the experience of raising livestock, the number of family dependents, and the number of livestock ownership were not significantly different (p>0.05) from the two research locations. The motivation for raising livestock as savings and functions as fertilizer was not significantly different in the two locations, but the motivation for livestock as the main source of income showed that the area of agricultural location was higher than that of the Forging Factory (P

Abstract

This study is motivated by the increasing production of hybrid corn crops in the West Muna region, which has been on the rise. In 2017, the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) recorded corn productivity in West Muna reaching 11,378.84 tons/ha, and it increased to 20,221.17 tons/ha in 2018 but declined in 2019 and 2020 to 11,975.63 tons/ha. Due to the decline in corn farming production, farmers' welfare also decreased. Therefore, the role of institutions in supporting the agribusiness system is crucial to significantly improving the welfare of farming communities. This research aims to determine: (1) The role of institutions in increasing production outcomes among corn farmers in Marobea Village, Sawerigadi District, West Muna Regency. (2) The relationship between the role of farmer groups and the increase in corn farming productivity in Marobea Village, Sawerigadi District, West Muna Regency. This research was conducted from January to July 2024. The population in this study consists of hybrid corn farmers who are members of farmer groups, agricultural extension officers, farmers' association groups (Gapoktan), financial institutions, and middlemen. This study employs descriptive analysis and Spearman rank correlation techniques. The results of the study show that (1) The role of agribusiness support institutions in hybrid corn farming in Marobea Village, Sawerigadi District, West Muna Regency: farmer groups are categorized as having a fairly significant role, Gapoktan is categorized as not having a role, agricultural extension officers are categorized as having a fairly significant role, middlemen are categorized as having a fairly significant role, and financial institutions are categorized as having no role. (2) Based on the Spearman rank correlation test, the relationship between learning classes and productivity scored 0.668, the relationship between farming production units and productivity scored 0.471, and the relationship between cooperation platforms and productivity scored 0.645, with each showing a positive and significant relationship

Abstract

This study aims to determine the performance and role of horticultural farmer groups in Tampa Bulu Village, North Poleang Sub-district, Bombana District, Southeast Sulawesi. Through this research, it is expected that strategies can be found to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of farmer groups in developing horticultural farming. This research was conducted from June 2022 to May 2023. The research location was chosen purposively because it has four horticultural farmer groups with 30 members each formed since 2016. The study population was all members of horticultural farmer groups in Tampa Bulu Village, totaling 120 people. The sample was taken randomly using the Taro Yamane formula with a margin of error of 15%, resulting in a sample of 32 people. The variables studied included the characteristics of respondents (age, education, land area, and length of farming) and the performance of farmer groups assessed by their role as a learning class, a vehicle for cooperation, and a production unit. The analytical tool used is Importance Performance Analysis (IPA), which measures the level of importance and performance in a two-dimensional graph. The results showed that most respondents were in the productive age range of 15-54 years (90.63%) with an education level of primarily high school graduates (43.76%). 81.25% of respondents had more than ten years of farming experience, and 50% had less than four dependents. Based on IPA analysis, six attributes were found in the "Improve Performance" quadrant, four attributes in the "Maintain Achievement" quadrant, four attributes in the "Low Priority" quadrant, and three attributes in the "Excessive" quadrant. This research provides insight into the performance and role of horticultural farmer groups and offers recommendations that can be implemented to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of farmer groups in Tampa Bulu Village.
