Abstract

This study aims to analyze and explain the effect of teachers’ pedagogical competence on students’ communication skills and performance at SMK Negeri 1 Jambi City. The study was motivated by the importance of communication skills and student performance as essential non-technical competencies required in the workplace, particularly in vocational education. However, students’ communication skills and performance are still not optimal, highlighting the need for effective pedagogical competence among teachers. This study employed a quantitative approach using an explanatory research method. The population consisted of 1,846 students, and a sample of 187 respondents was selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling based on Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) with SmartPLS 4 software. The results indicate that teachers’ pedagogical competence has a positive and significant effect on students’ communication skills (p-value = 0.000 < 0.05; T-statistic = 12.430 > 1.96) and student performance (p-value = 0.000 < 0.05; T-statistic = 6.483 > 1.96). Teachers’ pedagogical competence also contributes to communication skills (R² = 0.509) and student performance (R² = 0.338). These findings emphasize that improving teachers’ pedagogical competence plays an important role in enhancing students’ communication skills, performance, and readiness to enter the workforce.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the principal's strategy in managing learning time in the full-day school program at SMA Negeri 8 Muaro Jambi. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study research type. Data were obtained through interviews, observation, and documentation. Research informants consisted of the principal, vice principal for curriculum, teachers, and students. The results of the study indicate that the principal's strategy in managing learning time is carried out through three stages: planning, implementation, and monitoring/evaluation. In the planning stage, the preparation of learning duration refers to government regulations and student conditions. Subject placement is based on student concentration levels from morning to afternoon. The balance of academic and non-academic activities is through clear coordination and division of tasks. In the implementation stage, learning activities are carried out according to the established schedule, taking into account the effectiveness of the schedule and student involvement. In the monitoring/evaluation stage, the school holds a meeting to assess the implementation of the schedule and make improvements to any obstacles found. The novelty of this study lies in the focus of the study on the principal's strategy in managing learning time in the full-day school program at SMA Negeri 8 Muaro Jambi.

Abstract

Project-Based Learning (PjBL) has emerged as an innovative educational approach that bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. This study explores the impact of PjBL on students' learning experiences, particularly in real-world engagement, collaborative teamwork, social interaction, and problem-solving skills. Findings from interviews with multiple informants highlight that PjBL provides students with new experiences beyond the traditional classroom setting, allowing them to engage directly with the school environment. Through collaborative projects, students develop interpersonal skills, enhance communication, and strengthen teamwork. Additionally, PjBL fosters adaptability and problem-solving abilities, equipping students with essential 21st-century competencies. These results align with the theoretical perspectives of Krajcik & Blumenfeld (2006) and Blumenfeld et al. (1991), which emphasize the significance of experiential learning and social interaction in deepening students’ understanding. Overall, PjBL offers a transformative learning experience by making education more meaningful, engaging, and relevant to real-world challenges

Abstract

Informan dipilih melalui teknik purposive sampling.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to examine and describe the quality of service provided by educational support staff at SMP Negeri 7 Muaro Jambi, focusing on service timing, the completion of administrative tasks within established timeframes, and the factors that facilitate or hinder service quality. The study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data collection was conducted through observation, interviews, and document analysis. Data analysis involved the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the quality of service provided by educational support staff at SMP Negeri 7 Muaro Jambi is good in terms of service timing. The staff demonstrate discipline regarding attendance, provide services relatively quickly, and are responsive to the needs of service users. Administrative services are generally carried out in accordance with established timeframes and applicable procedures, although delays occasionally occur due to increased workloads. Nevertheless, limited service hours mean that some users must wait in certain situations, particularly when the demand for services rises. Factors supporting service quality include staff competence, the availability of facilities and infrastructure, and effective cooperation among employees. Conversely, hindering factors include a limited number of staff, heavy administrative workloads, technical issues, incomplete documentation submitted by users.
