Abstract

Feed availability is a key factor in increasing beef cattle productivity. This activity aims to strengthen beef cattle feed availability strategies through a collaborative approach involving all relevant stakeholders in Muna Regency. This FGD activity was held in August 2025 in one of the beef cattle development centers in Kabangka District, Muna Regency. FGD participants consisted of various important elements, including the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Research and Innovation Agency (BRIDA) Team, the Halu Oleo University (UHO) Research Team, the Muna Regency Livestock and Animal Health Service (PKH) Team, the Kabangka Subdistrict Agricultural Extension Center (BPP), and local farmers. The data obtained from the FGD was analyzed using descriptive methods. The main strategies recommended are the application of feed processing technology, crop-livestock integration, increasing the capacity of livestock farmers, and protecting grazing land. Therefore, together with stakeholders in Muna Regency, it can become a driving force in developing the beef cattle industry in Muna Regency. The results obtained show that Muna Regency has great potential for beef cattle development, supported by its population and availability of land, natural resources, and feed from agricultural waste. However, this potential is constrained by low feed quality, traditional management systems, and limited knowledge and infrastructure among farmers. The main strategies recommended are the application of feed processing technology, crop-livestock integration, increasing the capacity of livestock farmers, and protecting grazing land. Therefore, together with stakeholders in Muna Regency, this can be a driving force in overseeing the development of beef cattle.

Abstract

The high and fluctuating cost of poultry feed has become a major constraint for smallholder farmers in Morome Village, Konda Subdistrict, South Konawe Regency. This condition undermines the sustainability of poultry farming and reduces farmers’ profit margins. One potential solution is the utilization of maggot (Hermetia illucens / Black Soldier Fly) meal as an alternative protein source that is environmentally friendly, economically viable, and can be locally produced from organic waste. This community service program aimed to enhance farmers’ knowledge and skills regarding maggot farming, processing into meal, and formulating alternative poultry feed. The implementation methods included participatory observation, interactive lectures through presentations, leaflets, and videos, followed by demonstrations and hands-on training on maggot farming and meal processing. The results showed that participants’ understanding of maggot as poultry feed increased, along with their technical skills in maggot cultivation and processing. Farmers also became more motivated to utilize organic waste as maggot rearing media. Strong enthusiasm was evident through active participation in practice sessions and group discussions. Therefore, this program successfully promoted the adoption of maggot-based alternative feed innovation, supporting both cost efficiency in poultry production and sustainable waste management.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the communication behavior of farmers and control of pests and diseases in paddy rice plants and their influence. The population in the study was all wet-rice farmers in Pangan Jaya Village, Lainea Sub-district, South Konawe Regency, which had 350 farmers. The research sample was determined as much as 10% of the population, so the sample in this study amounted to 35 people. The sample was taken using Simple Random Sampling (simple random sampling). Data collection methods use survey techniques, interviews, and documentation by utilizing research media in questionnaires. The research used a quantitative approach in its completion. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis with the help of class interval formula and simple linear regression analysis. The results showed that the communication behavior of rice paddy farmers for information seeking, contact with extension workers, and exposure to mass media had been in the high category. This can be seen in farmers' knowledge, attitudes, and skills, each in the high category. Chemical pest and disease control carried out by wetland rice farmers is in the high category. Abstract

The objective of this study is to ascertain the efficacy of printed media, specifically posters, in enhancing farmers' understanding of pest and disease control in paddy rice plants. The study population consisted of all rice farmers in Lambudoni Village, Andowia Subdistrict, with a total of 187 farmers comprising nine farmer groups. The number of research samples was determined using the Slovin formula with a degree of error set at 15% (0.15), resulting in a sample size of 36 respondents. The research sample was selected through the use of the simple random sampling method. The data collection techniques involved the distribution of posters regarding the control of pests and diseases of paddy rice plants, accompanied by a list of questions in the form of a questionnaire. The data were subjected to descriptive and quantitative analysis. This research was designed as a true experimental design with a pre-test post-test control group. Subsequently, the efficacy of the media can be evaluated through the implementation of a media effectiveness test. The results demonstrated that the utilization of printed media in the form of posters in agricultural extension activities, with a composition of 60:40 (picture: writing), has been proven to be an effective approach in enhancing the knowledge of wetland rice farmers in controlling pests and diseases in Lambudoni Village, Andowia District, North Konawe Regency. The composition of a poster is an important factor in conveying messages and extension information to farmers. The use of images on a poster can help farmers to focus more on the information presented and to understand the content more easily.

Abstract

Social media has emerged as a significant conduit for the dissemination of information, with implications for the dissemination of information regarding corn production in Muna Regency. Corn in this region holds considerable potential as a strategic commodity, yet it is subject to variability in production, inadequate farming efficiency, and the challenges posed by unstable prices. Notwithstanding these challenges, cultivation and marketing opportunities for corn in Muna Regency remain promising. The objective of this study is to ascertain the utilization of Facebook social media during the corn cultivation process and to determine the income of corn farmers in Laiba Village, Parigi District, Muna Regency. The population under study comprised 102 corn farmers residing in Laiba Village. The sampling technique employed a simple random sampling method, yielding a sample of 30 respondents. The study's primary focus was on the following variables: farmer characteristics, utilization of Facebook social media, and income levels of corn farmers. The analysis was conducted using descriptive statistical analysis and income formulas. The findings indicated that the utilization of Facebook as a resource for information concerning cultivation and marketing endeavors was classified within the high category. Furthermore, the income level of corn farmers was found to be notably high. The capacity of farmers to access and utilize social media, particularly Facebook, has been identified as a strategic factor in the development and implementation of farming development strategies that are more conducive to optimal outcomes. These strategies have been shown to positively impact farmers' income.

Abstract

National development strategies prioritize villages by implementing autonomy policies and fortifying Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) as economic institutions grounded in local potential. These enterprises play a pivotal role in enhancing community welfare, curbing inequality, and fostering village economic autonomy. However, various challenges persist in their management, including budgetary limitations and institutional capacity. The objective of this study is to provide a comprehensive analysis of the role of BUMDes in the procurement of agricultural production inputs in Maperaha Village, Sawerigadi District, West Muna Regency. The number of subjects in this study was 15, selected using purposive sampling. The data were collected through a combination of interviews, observational studies, and documentation techniques. The research variables were the role and factors inhibiting BUMDes in the procurement of agricultural production inputs. The data analysis method employed in this study was descriptive analysis. The results indicated that the role of the Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes) of Maperaha Village in the procurement of agricultural production inputs, including seeds, fertilizers, agricultural tools, and pesticides, was still low and not yet optimal. The procurement of production inputs has not yet been fully aligned with the needs of farmers, nor has it been distributed equally among the community. The condition is influenced by several factors, including limited facilities and infrastructure, low community participation, and a weak human resource capacity among BUMDes managers and management.
