Abstract

Kendari City as the provincial capital has the highest incidence of positive covid-19 cases compared to other districts / cities in Southeast Sulawesi, Until April 23, 2020 there were 17 positive patients with Covid-19 who were undergoing treatment. This has implications for decreasing consumption and people's income because they cannot carry out normal activities. The steps taken by the central and local governments to combat the Covid-19 pandemic are by carrying out social distancing or social restrictions by limiting distances between individuals and avoiding crowds. Another government policy is the implementation of work from home (WFH) or activities from home for some employees and school children. This condition adversely affects the economy of Kendari city. One of the solutions offered is raising quail by utilizing the house yard. Quail maintenance is quite easy, does not require a large area and the maintenance system can be completed in a minimalist manner. Quail products consist of eggs and meat. Quail meat is processed into rica-rica quail meat and eggs are processed into quail egg nest tofu. KKN-THEMATIC aims to provide insights and knowledge about processing and marketing of processed quail products to the public. The method used is a persuasive participatory method with direct extension activities and practices. The results that have been achieved in this KKN-TEMATIK activity are an increase in the knowledge and understanding of breeders and the community in developing their business sustainability by making processed quail products, aswell as marketing management of processed quail products.

Abstract

Abstract

Gerbage chicory is a by-product or the result of weeding most vegetable parts and is easily found in traditional markets but cannot be consumed by humans anymore. This study aimed to analyze the effect of flour of chicory by-products on the percentage of giblet (gizzard, liver, and heart) of broiler chickens. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments and 5 replications. In each treatment replication, there were 5 broiler chickens. The treatments used were: P0 = ration without flour of chicory by-products, P1 = ration with 5% flour of chicory by-products, P2 = ration with 10% flour of chicory by-products, and P3 = ration with 15% flour of chicory by-products. The results showed that the average weight of the gizzard, liver, and heart was 2.54-3.11%, 2.86-3.41%, and 0.64-0.71%, respectively. The provision of flour of chicory by-products did not significantly affect the percentage of heart. However, it had a significant effect (P<0.05) on the percentage of liver and gizzard. The percentage of broiler liver increased with the treatment level, and the percentage of gizzard increased at the level of treatment of 5% and 10% flour of chicory by-products. It can be concluded that the addition of flour from chicory by-products to broilers is still safe and does not interfere with the performance of giblets up to a level of 15%

Abstract

The process of hatching eggs is greatly influenced by the level of cleanliness of the eggs, so disinfection is carried out to reduce contamination of the eggs. However, generally, the disinfectants used are chemical-based, causing residue. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using betel leaf extract disinfectant (Piper betle L.) on embryo mortality, hatchability, and hatching weight of village chickens. This study used a completely randomized (CRD) design with four treatments and replications. Treatments consisted of P0 (dipping solution without betel leaf extract), P1 (dipping solution containing 10% betel leaf extract), P2 (dipping solution containing 20% betel leaf extract) and P3 (dipping solution containing 30% betel leaf extract ). The data were analyzed using analysis of variance and continued with further tests of the Honestly Significant Difference Test (BNJ) on treatments that showed significant differences. The research showed that using betel leaf extract as a disinfectant of up to 30% did not significantly affect embryo mortality, hatchability, and hatching weight of kampong chicken eggs. Embryo mortality, hatchability, and hatching weight of native chickens in this study ranged between 30-45%, 55-70%, and 32.31-32.84%. The conclusion can be drawn is that using betel leaf extract up to 30% is not effective as a natural disinfectant for hatching kampong chicken eggs.
