Abstract

Microbiology learning has not used multimedia based on science technology engineering and mathematics (M-STEM) which can help students understand the concept of microbiology and empower 21st-century skills. The purpose of this research was to develop M-STEM in microbiology learning. The research method uses research and development (R&D) with the Borg and Gall development model which consists of seven stages. The research sample was 20 students who had participated in microbiology learning and four microbiology lecturers at the department of biology education, IKIP Budi Utomo. The research instrument used a questionnaire, interview transcripts, expert validation sheets, practitioner validation sheets, and readability test sheets. The research data is the percentage of the validation score from experts, practitioners, and readability tests. The research data analysis was carried out by descriptive qualitative. The results showed that M-STEM was declared strongly valid in the aspect of media (88.36%), material (97%), usefulness in microbiology learning (99.49%), and readability (88.82%). M-STEM contains interesting features, is easy to access and operate, and the information in it is easy to understand. This research concludes that M-STEM can be recommended for use in microbiology learning. Keywords: Biology learning, microbiology, multimedia, STEM

Abstract

Rendahnya pemanfaatan multimedia berbasis model pembelajaran STEM untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis pada pembelajaran anatomi fisiologi manusia di Program Studi Pendidikan Biologi IKIP Budi Utomo. Tujuan penelitian adalah meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis mahasiswa melalui multimedia-STEM education. Metode penelian adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas yang dilaksanakan dalam 2 siklus. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah transkrip wawancara, lembar observasi, dan test. Teknik analisis data penelitian dengan menggunakan kriteria ketuntasan klasikal dan gain score (N-gain). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keterampilan berpikir kritis dapat meningkat melalui multimedia-STEM education dengan ketuntasan klasikal sebesar 90,48% (P>85%) dan N-gain sebesar 0,501 pada kriteria sedang. Keterampilan berpikir kritis dapat meningkat karena langkah-langkah model pembelajaran STEM yang terintegrasi dalam multimedia dapat memberdayakan keterampilan berpikir kritis. Kesimpulan penelitian bahwa keterampilan berpikir kritis dapat meningkat melalui multimedia-STEM education.

Abstract

This study aimed to obtain information about the relationship between students' abilities in analyzing environmental problems in the Citarum Watershed (DAS) and ecological literacy. In addition, to find out other factors that have a relationship with the ability of students to analyze environmental problems in the Citarum watershed and to analyze the ILMIZI model as an innovative learning model. This research was conducted from January to July 2020. Retrieval of quantitative data using test questions in the form of descriptions for variable Y and a combination of questionnaires and items for variable X. After the Pearson product moment correlation test was carried out, it was found that there was a low category positive relationship between ecological literacy and students' ability to analyze environmental problems in the Citarum watershed because it was still the low interest in reading students. Results of regression equation Ŷ = 88.025 + 0.474x with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.22 and r2 of 5.04%. The results of the ILMIZI learning model analysis showed that this model relevant to improve students' analytical skills. The conclusion of this study is that there is a low positive relationship between ecological literacy and students' ability to analyze environmental problems, and it can be improved with the ILMIZI model.

Abstract

The activity of the heart and blood vessels is material that is close to the daily activities of every human being. The importance of understanding this concept has not been understood correctly and sometimes causes misconceptions. The main purpose of this study is to identify misconceptions experienced by students in the material of heart and blood vessel activity. Case study research is used to answer it. The research subjects consisted of 97 VIII grade students from 3 schools located in Malang and Tulungagung. The study was conducted in the 2019/2020 school year. The results showed that there were 9.3% of students experiencing misconceptions on cardiac activity material, 22.7% of students experiencing misconceptions related to pulmonary arteries, 38.2% of students experiencing misconceptions related to pulmonary veins, 23.7% of students experiencing misconceptions related to arteries, and 16.5% of students experience misconceptions in distinguishing arteries and veins. In answering a series of questions about heart and blood vessel activity, students are more likely to use p-prime than their scientific knowledge.

Abstract

The results of observations on learning cell biology show that most students assume that cell biology is a complex and abstract material. The level of conceptual understanding is still relatively low which can be observed from the low test results. There is a misconception that cell structure is a dense and non-porous structure; this can be seen in the results of student drawings on the topic of cell membranes. One solution to overcome the above problem is to develop contemporary teaching materials in the form of e-module based on Edmodo android so that students can easily access them using only a smartphone. The research objective was to develop an Edmodo android cell biology module. This type of research was research and development (R&D). The development model used is Thiagarajan 4D, which is defined, design and develop. The instruments used were the e-module validation questionnaire by experts (material experts, media experts, and practitioners) and the e-module feasibility test questionnaire on 24 students. Research data were a score of validation results and other supporting information to perfect the e-module. As a result, the Edmodo Android of cell biology based that has been developed through Thiagarajan 4D has valid criteria. Thus, it can be used in cell biology learning.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the percentage of students' misconception on general biology concepts using the Four-Tier Diagnostic Test (FTDT). This research method is descriptive research. The research sample was 100 students from IKIP Budi Utomo, Universitas Nusantara PGRI Kediri, and Universitas PGRI Madiun. The research instrument is the FTDT question. The data collection techniques by distributing FTDT questions via Google Form to students using WhatsApp. The data analysis technique was done by quantitative descriptive. The results showed that 25% of students understood the concept, 39% of students had misconception, 23% of students guessed the answer, and 13% of students lack knowledge. The lowest student misconception on the concept of structure and function at all levels of biological organization is 20% and the highest misconception on the concept of the definition of biology is 65%. While the sequence of the third category of students' highest misconception is 65% misconception, 11% false positive, and 12% false negative. The results of this study are important to provide advice to lecturers when teaching general biology to always provide correct information, valid reading sources, valid learning media, and appropriate learning models so that there are no misconceptions among students.

Abstract

The purpose of this service activity is to training and mentoring TPQ Baitul Khoir students in making yogurt as a provision for future businesses. The method of service implementation includes Observation, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation, and Reflection (OPIER). Observations were made through field reviews and direct interviews with the guardians of TPQ Baitul Khoir students. Planning is made based on the results of observations. The implementation of the service is carried out based on the plans that have been made. Evaluation is carried out to determine the impact of the implementation of the service. Reflection to analyze obstacles and follow-up plans for the next service activity. The results of the service show that the students of TPQ Baitul Khoir can make yogurt. Santri TPQ Baitur Khoir is very enthusiastic and passionate about making yogurt. The obstacle experienced was that the service area was relatively narrow, thereby reducing the space for the service team and participants. Thus, this service concludes that service activities can train and assist TPQ Baitul Khoir students in making yogurt as a business provision in the future when they want to earn income from a business.

Abstract

Hasil observasi peneliti pada perkuliahan Morfologi Tumbuhan menunjukkan pertanyaan yang diajukan saat diskusi kelas jumlahnya < 3 dan hasil belajar kognitif <50%. Solusi alternatif untuk mengatasi masalah di atas, yaitu menggunakan metode pembelajaran Student Teams Achiesvement Divisions (STAD). STAD dipilih karena metode ini dapat memberikan kemudahan kepada siswa dalam memahami konsep materi pelajaran melalui diskusi kelompok. Penelitian ini ialah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) berbasis Lesson Study (LS) atau disebut PTKLS. Subjek penelitian adalah 39 mahasiswa matakuliah Morfologi Tumbuhan. Penelitian dilaksanakan selama dua siklus, dimana tiap siklus terdiri dari dua kali pertemuan. Pada tiap siklus PTKLS meliputi tahap planning, implementing dan observing (meliputi tahap plan, do, see miliknya LS), serta reflecting. Materi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini ialah perkembangan bunga angiospermae, polinasi, fertilisasi, buah dan bagian-bagiannya, biji dan bagian-bagiannya, pemencaran, serta perkecambahan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan hasil belajar kognitif mahasiswa Morfologi Tumbuhan mengalami peningkatan dari siklus I (64,87) ke siklus II (65,02) sebesar 1,002257% dan keterlaksanaan pembelajaran di kelas berjalan dengan baik karena adanya plan, do, dan see miliknya LS pada fase implementing dan observing miliknya PTK. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan metode pembelajaran STAD berbasis LS dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar kognitif mahasiswa dan pembelajaran berjalan dengan baik.

Abstract

Based on an agreement between the PMBP team and SMA Maarif Lawang, it is necessary to carry out community service activities in the form of tutoring assistance and the use of Canva. The service aims to help master the concept of biology material that often appears in OSN questions at the Malang Regency Public and Private High School levels and to help increase student creativity in using Canva to create content and manage social media. The service method consists of four stages: Observation, Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation (OPIE). The place of service is SMA Maarif Lawang, Lawang District, Malang Regency. The service instruments are observation sheets and participant enthusiasm questionnaires. The data analysis technique is descriptive quantitative. The results of the service show that the community service activities really help Maarif Lawang High School to master the concept of biology material that often appears in OSN questions at the Malang Regency Private and State High School levels and increase student creativity in using Canva to create content and manage social media. Community service activities run well and smoothly and are in accordance with the expected achievement targets.

Abstract

There is a need for learning media that integrates learning approaches and models that can help students understand the concepts contextually and empower critical thinking and metacognitive skills. The study aims to produce a multimedia digital quiz on the cardiovascular system material that is valid. The research method uses the Thiagarajan model but only at the define, design, and develop stages. The research objects were three lecturers and 30 students. The research instruments were a needs analysis sheet, a Semester Lecture Plan analysis sheet, a validation sheet from material experts, media experts, practitioners, and a readability test sheet. This research data is in the form of validation scores from experts and readability tests. Research data will be analyzed using quantitative descriptive analysis techniques. The research results show that material experts assessed the multimedia digital quiz at 98.64% (strongly valid), media experts at 97.65% (strongly valid), practitioners at 98.29% (strongly valid), and student readability test results at 87.31% (strongly valid). Furthermore, these findings can be recommended for use by lecturers who teach human anatomy and physiology in universities to empower students' critical and metacognitive thinking skills.Abstrak Perlunya media pembelajaran yang mengintegrasikan pendekatan dan model pembelajaran untuk membantu siswa memahami konsep secara kontekstual serta memberdayakan kemampuan berpikir kritis dan metakognitif. Penelitian bertujuan untuk menghasilkan kuis digital multimedia pada materi sistem kardiovaskular yang valid. Metode penelitian menggunakan model Thiagarajan namun hanya pada tahap define, design, dan develop. Objek penelitian adalah tiga dosen dan 30 mahasiswa. Instrumen penelitian adalah lembar analisis kebutuhan, lembar analisis Rencana Perkuliahan Semester, lembar validasi ahli materi, ahli media, praktisi, dan lembar tes keterbacaan. Data penelitian berupa skor validasi dari para ahli dan tes keterbacaan. Data penelitian akan dianalisis menggunakan teknik analisis deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ahli materi menilai kuis digital multimedia sebesar 98,64% (sangat valid), ahli media sebesar 97,65% (sangat valid), praktisi sebesar 98,29% (sangat valid), dan hasil tes keterbacaan siswa sebesar 87,31% (sangat valid). Lebih lanjut, temuan ini dapat direkomendasikan untuk digunakan oleh dosen pengajar anatomi dan fisiologi manusia di perguruan tinggi untuk memberdayakan kemampuan berpikir kritis dan metakognitif mahasiswa.
