Abstract

Introduction: Work stress is a significant issue in the nursing profession, often linked to adverse mental health outcomes such as anxiety, depression, and decreased quality of life. This study aimed to investigate the relationships between anxiety, depression, quality of life, and work stress among nurses in East Java Province, Indonesia. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional design was employed, involving 205 nurses from three cities in Indonesia. Data were collected using standardized instruments: Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) for anxiety, the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) for depression, World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF) for quality of life, and the Work Stress Scale (WSS) for work stress. Correlation and multiple regression analyses were used to examine the relationships between the variables. Results: The finding revealed significant correlations between work stress, anxiety (p-value 0.001), and quality of life (p-value 0.001). Higher levels of work stress were associated with increased anxiety and lower quality of life scores. However, no significant association was found between work stress and depression in the regression analysis (p-value 0.101). Anxiety and quality of life were significant predictors of work stress, accounting for 13.4% of the variance. Conclusion: This study's findings support targeted interventions that can reduce anxiety and improve nurses' quality of life. These include mental health workplace programs and hospital organizational changes to foster a positive work culture. Given the limitations of self-reported data, future research should incorporate longitudinal designs and objective measures to understand these relationships better.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: The HIV epidemic in Indonesia is still a major health problem, especially among men who have sex with men (MSM). The high prevalence of HIV in MSM is influenced by fear of stigma, discrimination, or negative consequences. Self-disclosure is an important aspect of efforts to prevent HIV and AIDS, but there are still MSM who experience obstacles related to self-disclosure.Method: This study uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method. The main informants consisted of 10 MSM domiciled in the Jember Regency, selected using the snowball technique. Source triangulation was carried out by involving HIV and AIDS NGO companions, peers, partners, and health workers. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews, while data analysis used the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) method.Result: The results of the study showed that self-disclosure in MSM was influenced by several main factors, namely motivation, intensity, accuracy of feedback, time, and depth and breadth of information shared. The majority of informants felt comfortable opening up to peers and MSM friends compared to family or health workers. Negative feedback from the social environment tended to inhibit openness, while positive support could increase motivation to share information. This study emphasizes the importance of a supportive environment, especially in health services, to increase openness in HIV and AIDS prevention efforts. A supportive environment, especially in health services, is essential to increase openness in HIV and AIDS prevention efforts. The suggestion given is to conduct health promotion to increase self-disclosure of MSM in preventing HIV and AIDS, which can be done through education, social support, and increasing access to health services

Abstract

Abstract

Diarrhea is a disease that is ranked second as the cause of death among children under five in the world. One of the important impacts of diarrhea in toddlers is related to malnutrition and growth failure, specifically stunting. Prolonged diarrhea can cause a decrease in nutritional status, especially in children under two years of age. Diarrhea prevention interventions are carried out through empowerment programs involving educational and coercive activities using the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) method. PRA is an empowerment approach and technique that involves the community during program planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation activities. The material in the empowerment program is related to diarrhea, including the definition of diarrhea, the causes of diarrhea, and how to prevent diarrhea. This material is listed in the Cerdik Module, which includes menus with local ingredients. The empowerment program consists of two activities, namely diarrhea prevention education carried out by diarrhea care cadres and locally-based Supplemental Food Complementary Demonstration (PMT) activities. The activity was attended by 24 participants, namely mothers with children under five. Based on the results, it is known that the pre-test and post-test showed an increase in knowledge by 5.4%, as evidenced by the average pre-test score of 7.3 and the average post-test score of 7.7. Cooperation is needed between the government, community, and stakeholders related to diarrhea prevention efforts so that a diarrhea-free Sabrang Village can be realized.

Abstract

Background: People living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) face numerous physical and psychological challenges that often lead to the emergence of negative emotional states. These emotional difficulties are frequently exacerbated by social stigma and discrimination, which can lead to diminished quality of life, decreased treatment adherence, and social withdrawal. Understanding how PLWHA manage their emotional responses is critical in developing supportive interventions. Objective: This study aims to analyze the factors that influence emotional regulation among PLWHA, with a focus on understanding the role of social and environmental support systems. By identifying key influences, the study seeks to inform strategies that foster better mental health outcomes in this vulnerable population. Methods: A qualitative case study approach was employed to obtain a deep understanding of the emotional experiences of PLWHA. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 1 key informant, 8 PLWHA informants, and 5 additional informants including close family members and peers. Furthermore, Focused Group Discussions (FGDs) were conducted with 6 peer companions to enrich the data and validate individual findings. Thematic content analysis was used to identify recurring patterns and themes across the data. Result: Emotional regulation among PLWHA is significantly influenced by environmental acceptance and the availability of social support, particularly from family and peer companions. Positive social interactions contribute to increased motivation to pursue medical treatment and improve life satisfaction. On the other hand, ongoing stigma and discrimination were found to trigger negative emotional responses, including anxiety, shame, and social isolation. Conclusion: Emotional regulation in PLWHA is shaped by multiple interconnected factors, such as environmental support, traumatic past experiences, and physical changes associated with the illness. Interventions that focus on reducing societal stigma and enhancing the role of family and peer support are essential to promote resilience and positive emotional well-being among PLWHA.

Abstract

Background: For more than three decades, the HIV epidemic in Indonesia has continued to grow and has primarily affected men who have sex with men (MSM). The high prevalence of HIV is inseparable from triggering stigma and discrimination. This hampers prevention and treatment, and encourages many MSM in Indonesia to hide their identity and sexual orientation, so that difficulties in accessing HIV prevention and treatment services and increase the risk of HIV transmission. Self-disclosure is an important aspect for MSM to help prevent HIV transmission and improve treatment adherence. Methods: This study employed a qualitative phenomenological approach using snowball sampling. Data were collected via in-depth interviews and analyzed using the interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) method to explore the dynamics of self-disclosure through the lens of the Johari Window theory, focusing on hidden and blind areas. Results: The findings reveal that MSM often conceal their sexual orientation and HIV status due to fear of stigma and discrimination, especially from family, workplace, and social circles representing the hidden area. Meanwhile, the blind area emerges when the environment perceives MSM's identity without explicit disclosure, sometimes offering support but also reinforcing societal pressure. These dynamics significantly affect MSM's willingness to seek help and disclose critical information necessary for HIV prevention. Conclusion: Self-disclosure among MSM is significantly influenced by stigma, discrimination, and the social environment which either supports or hinders their openness. To address this, inclusive and stigma-reducing strategies are urgently needed, particularly within healthcare services.
