Abstract

Smoking behavior is seen from the perspective of being considered very detrimental, both for oneself and others around it. This has never subsided and seems to be a behavior that is still acceptable by society. The purpose of Community Service is to improve attitudes and knowledge of smoking cessation programs for high school students in the city of Makassar through socialization and health education. The method of implementing PkM activities used in the community service program is participatory training and role play and is carried out with a group approach, namely meetings with a group of target students. The results show that the level of knowledge increased by more than 50% after the Socialization and Health Education activities were carried out. This shows that this community service activity has succeeded in increasing students' knowledge of smoking cessation programs and prevention methods. The conclusion is that students' knowledge has increased to stop smoking based on the results of the pre-test and post-test and the PkM TEAM expects schools to provide information and socialization and health education in the form of warnings and prohibitions, especially for male students so that they are not influenced by smoking behavior from an early age, both during school hours and outside school hours.

Abstract

Umbi yang dapat digunakan untuk infeksi cacingan adalah bawang putih (Allium sativum L.). Kandungan bawang putih yaitu senyawa flavonoid dan saponin berkhasiat sebagai anthelmintik. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui efektifitas ekstrak bawang putih sebagai antelmintik terhadap cacing gelang Ascaris suum, Goeze. serta memperoleh formula sirup yang stabil secara fisik. Penelitian ini meliputi persiapan hewan uji, persiapan sampel, pengolahan sampel, proses ekstraksi dengan metode maserasi, skrining fitokimia, uji bebas etanol, uji aktivitas antelmintik ekstrak bawang putih (Allium sativum L.), pembuatan sirup, dan evaluasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan 3 kelompok perlakuan yaitu, larutan NaCl 0.9% sebagai kontrol negatif, pirantel pamoat 1% (Combantrin®) sebagai kontrol positif, dan ekstrak bawang putih (Allium sativum L.) variasi konsentrasi 20% b/v, 25% b/v, dan 30% b/v. Hewan uji untuk setiap perlakuan adalah 6 ekor. Pengamatan kematian cacing dilakukan setiap jam dan selama 48 jam, Hasil perhitungan diperoleh nilai LC50 33,88% dan LC90 93,33% dan waktu kematian 100% cacing adalah 28 jam. Konsentrasi ekstrak yang digunakan dalam pembuatan formulasi yaitu sebesar 30%, dengan variasi konsentrasi sorbitol sebesar 20%, 25% dan 30%.   Formulasi sediaan sirup ekstrak bawang putih yang baik yaitu F3 dengan konsentrasi sorbitol 30% dengan hasil uji organoleptik berwarna coklat kehitaman, rasa manis, aroma strawberry, homogen dan jernih.  Evaluasi fisik pH 5,05, bobot jenis 1,23 g/mL, waktu tuang 2,93, volume terpindahkan 96% dan uji viskositas 8,40 cps. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak bawang putih dapat dibuat sirup antelmintik dan efektif terhadap cacing Ascaris suum, Goeze.

Abstract

Antioxidants can bind free radicals, inhibit oxidative stress, stimulate oxygen and tighten the skin so as to prevent premature aging. An increase in the number of free radicals, an increase in age, and excessive exposure to ultraviolet light can accelerate the aging process or cause premature aging. Premature aging can be prevented by using cosmetics that contain natural antioxidants derived from plants. There are many herbal plants that are empirically used by the Baduy community as potential antioxidants. Proof of antioxidant activity can be done by testing the effects on each herbal plant conducted by several previous researchers. The purpose of this article is to provide information about which plants have the potential as antioxidants as cosmetic raw materials through journal literature searches in electronic databases. Some herbal plants in Baduy outside are papaya, cat whiskers, miana, weeds, kencur, guava, red ginger, betel nut, secang and kecombrang. Secondary metabolites in plants that are most influential as cosmetics include flavonoids and phenolics.

Abstract

Diarrhea is one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in children, especially in areas with limited access to health services. Self-medication is the main alternative for some people, but is often done without adequate understanding. This community service activity aims to improve parents' understanding of self-medication for diarrhea in children and implement the role of pharmacists in providing education and monitoring rational drug use. Activities are carried out in several areas in South Sulawesi through counseling, training, and individual consultations. The results of the activity show an increase in knowledge and more appropriate behavior in the use of antidiarrheal drugs. The implementation of the role of pharmacists has proven effective in encouraging safe and rational self-medication in the community.

Abstract

Global TB Report 2022 recorded more than 700 thousand TB cases. This figure is the highest since TB became a National Priority Program. In Indonesia, the highest number of TB cases is found in the productive age group, especially those aged 45 to 54 years. This study aims to determine the profile of pulmonary tuberculosis treatment at the Kaluku Bodoa Health Center. The research design used is a non-experimental study with data collection conducted retrospectively using medical records, including individual characteristics (age, gender, education, occupation), patient type, type of Directly Observed Treatment (DOT) supervisor, and treatment category. Based on the research conducted at the Kaluku Bodoa Health Center, data showed a total of 201 pulmonary tuberculosis patients. In terms of individual characteristics, there were 44 patients aged 46-55 years, 123 male patients, the majority of whom had a primary education level (97 patients), and most of the patients were working (174 patients). Based on patient type, there were more new patients, totaling 177. All patients had a family DOT supervisor, totaling 201 patients. The treatment category used is category 1 for 197 patients.

Abstract

Cosmos caudatus Kunth. is a plant that has secondary metabolites that are antioxidant. This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity of the ethanol extract of kenikir leaves which was extracted using a variety of extraction methods with the radical antidote ABTS. Samples of kenikir leaves were processed until they became simple and then extracted using three methods, namely maceration, percolation and digestion. The extracts obtained were subjected to phytochemical screening and the antioxidant activity of the ethanol extract of kenikir leaves was tested using UV-Vis spectrophotometry using the ABTS method (2,2 azinobis (3-ethylbenzothyiazoline-6-sulfonic acid). In testing the antioxidant activity of kenikir leaves, the results showed that the extract using the maceration method had antioxidant activity with an IC50 of 166,962 µg/mL, the extract using the digestion method IC50 84,117 µg/mL and the ethanol percolation extract of kenikir leaves 113,901 µg/mL, with quarcetin. as a positive control with an IC50 of 90.566 µg/mL. This study concluded that extracts with a variety of extraction methods had antioxidant activity, namely digestion (strong), percolation (medium), and maceration (weak). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antioksidan dari ekstrak etanol daun kenikir yang diekstraksi menggunakan variasi metode ekstraksi dengan penangkal radikal ABTS. Sampel daun kenikir diolah hingga menjadi simplisia kemudian dilakukan ekstraksi dengan tiga metode yaitu maserasi, perkolasi dan digesti. Pengujian aktivitas antioksidan daun kenikir diperoleh hasil bahwa ekstrak dengan metode maserasi memiliki aktivitas antioksidan dengan IC50 166,962 µg/mL, ekstrak metode digesti IC50 84,117 µg/mL dan ekstrak perkolasi etanol daun kenikir 113,901 µg/mL, dengan kuarsetin sebagai kontrol positif dengan IC50 90,566 µg/mL. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa ekstrak dengan variasi metode ekstraksi memiliki aktivitas antioksidan yaitu digesti (kuat), perkolasi (sedang), dan maserasi (lemah). Abstract

Kopi arabika (Coffea arabica L.) merupakan salah satu komoditi bahan alam yang digunakan hanyalah biji kopi, sedangkan kulit biji kopi hanya sebatas limbah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antioksidan ekstrak kulit biji kopi, memformulasikan dalam sediaan face mist, dan mengukur aktivitas antioksidan sediaan face mist. Ekstrak diformulasikan dengan variasi konsentrasi ekstrak yaitu F1 (3%), F2 (5%), dan F3 (7%). Hasil skrining fitokimia menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol kulit biji kopi arabika mengandung golongan senyawa tanin, alkaloid, saponin, dan flavonoid. Hasil penelitian antioksidan menunjukkan aktivitas antioksidan ekstrak kulit biji kopi termasuk kategori lemah dengan 298,8571 ppm dan vitamin C termasuk kategori sangat kuat dengan 5,99 ppm. Sedangkan aktivitas antioksidan sediaan face mist ekstrak kulit biji kopi menunjukkan hasil yang sangat lemah dengan F1 599,529 ppm, F2 599,619 ppm, dan F3 600,561 ppm. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak kulit biji kopi dapat diformulasikan menjadi sediaan face mist dan memiliki aktivitas antioksidan yang lemah.

Abstract

Clerodendrum minahassae Teijsm. and Binn plant is included in the Clerodendrum genus which contains chemicals such as alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, tannins and steroids which have an important role in the development of medicine, including as antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic and antibacterial. This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity of leilem leaf fractions using the DPPH method. Leilem leaves were extracted using the maceration method using 70% ethanol, then partitioned using the liquid-liquid extraction method using three different solvents, namely n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water. The fraction of the partition was then tested for antioxidant activity using the DPPH method and its absorbance was measured using a UV-VIS spectrophotometer with a wavelength of 515 nm. The research results showed that the n-hexane fraction had an IC50 value of 185.704 ppm, the ethyl acetate fraction had an IC50 value of 105.357 ppm and the water fraction had an IC50 value of 549.258 ppm with the IC50 value of the quarcetin comparison being 8.86 ppm. It can be concluded that the highest antioxidant activity is found in the ethyl acetate fraction, which is included in the moderate antioxidant category.

Abstract

Choromolaena odorata L. is one of the plants used as an antioxidant. This research aims to determine the optimization of the antioxidant activity of 96% ethanol extract of C. odorata L. leaves using the ABTS method, a variety of drying techniques. Previous research has tested antioxidant activity using one drying technique, whereas this research uses a variety of drying techniques because the sample drying technique will affect its activity. Simplicia is obtained from various drying techniques. Then the simplicia was organoleptically tested and its water content was measured using the distillation method. The ethanol extract of Tacklean leaves was carried out using the maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent, then phytochemical screening was carried out using the TLC method and the antioxidant activity test of the ethanol extract of C. odorata L leaves was carried out using the ABTS method. The formation of the ABTS radical cation [2,2′-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) forms the basis of one of the spectrophotometric methods that has been applied to the measurement of total antioxidant activity of plants. The research results from the three drying techniques (50°C oven, direct sun drying, and air drying) showed organoleptic results in successive colors (brown, chocolate and dark green), while for shape and odor, namely dry leaves and a distinctive odor. The water content of simplicia ranges from 7.52-9.31%, soaked extract 8.4-10.3% and IC50 23.287-29.064 µg/mL and quarcetin as a comparison with IC50 2.292 µg/mL. Phytochemical screening results contain alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids and tannins. Oven drying at 50°C produced the greatest antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 23.287 µg/mL which indicates very strong antioxidant power, although the antioxidant activity with a variety of drying techniques was all in the very strong category because it was <50 µg/mL.

Abstract

Kersen leaves (Muntingia calabura L.) are plants that contain many secondary metabolites, one of which is flavonoids that can act as antioxidants. This study aims to determine the total content of flavonoids which also have the potential as antioxidants in cherry leaves using the DPPH method (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhidrazyl) with various filters, namely 70% ethanol, ethyl acetate and n-hexan. Testing of total flavonoid content was carried out using AlCl3 reagent and measured using spectrophotometry at a wavelength of 422 nm. Antioxidant activity testing was measured at an absorption wavelength of 516 nm. The results showed the total flavonoid content of 70% ethanol filter leaf extract as much as 8.13 (mgQE/g), ethyl acetate as much as 8.32 (mgQE/g) and n-hexan as much as 18.96 (mgQE/g). antioxidant activity of cherry leaves using DPPH method (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhidrazyl) with filter variations. 70% ethanol extract of cherry leaves has an IC50 value of 7.56 μg/mL, ethyl acetate extract with an IC50 value of 36.05 μg/mL, and n-hexan extract with an IC50 value of 21.33 μg/mL. From the results obtained it can be concluded that the highest antioxidant activity is contained in 70% ethanol extract of 7.56 μg/mL.
