Abstract

Peanut shell has a high cellulose content as a carbon source which can be used as a basic ingredient for making activated charcoal. Research on peanut shells used as activated charcoal aims to determine the effect of contact time and pH on reducing levels of metal ions Ca2+ and Mg2+ in water. The research was conducted using contact time variables (30, 60, 90, 120, and 150 minutes) and pH (4, 5, 6, 7, and 8). Measurement of adsorbed metal levels was determined by using an Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The research results obtained showed that variations in contact time could reduce Ca2+ levels by 77.46% -84.89% and Mg2+ by 86.88%-88.91%. Adsorbents with variations in pH can reduce Ca2+ levels by 63.48%-88.74% and Mg2+ by 90.35%-94.49%. The best conditions for the absorption of Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions were a contact time of 60 minutes and pH 4. The adsorbent was applied to reduce Ca2+ and Mg2+ levels in water with different hardness levels. The results of the analysis of water samples from two different locations had Ca2+ levels of 94.180 mg/L and 210.20 mg/L, while Mg2+ levels were 13.536 mg/L and 17.420 mg/L. The percentages of Ca2+ adsorption for the two samples were 96.19% and 77.08%, and the percentages of Mg2+ adsorption for the two samples were 21.16% and 10.63%. Carbon from peanut shells activated with sodium acetate has the potential to be used to reduce hardness in water.

Abstract

The Syattariyah Sufi order is one of the tariqas that played an important role in the development of Islam in Sumatra through networks of scholars and intellectual traditions. Syattariyah scholars functioned not only as practitioners of Sufism, but also as agents of da‘wah, community leaders, and guardians of local intellectual heritage. This study aims to analyze how scholarly networks shaped, strengthened, and reproduced the continuity of the order in Sumatra through teacher disciple relationships, the transmission of knowledge, and socio-religious roles. The method employed is a qualitative-historical approach with library research on Sufi manuscripts, genealogical chains of transmission (sanad), scholarly works, and academic literature. The findings show that the Syattariyah order developed as a regional network of scholars connecting Aceh, Minangkabau, and Palembang through traditional educational institutions, the circulation of manuscripts, and the legitimation of spiritual lineage. This article emphasizes the uniqueness of the Syattariyah order as an institutionalized socio-intellectual system that is adaptive to colonialism and modernity, and remains relevant in shaping local Islamic identity into the contemporary period.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of Moringa (Moringa oleifera) leaf extract (MLE) diluted in Tris-Citric Acid-Glucose (TCG) extender on post-thawing quality of Donggala cattle sperm in. Semen samples were collected from Donggala bulls using an artificial vagina. The semen sample were then pooled and diluted with TCG supplemented with MLE. Three different concentrations of MLE (0 mg/mL, 0.5 mg/mL, 1.0 mg/mL, and 1.5 mg/mL) were tested to evaluate the post thawing motility and viability of Donggala cattle sperm. A standard cryopreservation procedure was used to freeze the semen and storagedin liquid nitrogen container. Sperm motility were valuated under light microscopy while sperm viability was assesed using eosin-nigrosin staining procedures.  The results showed that post-thaw sperm motility and viability were significantly maintained compare to control group following the addition of MLE at 1.0 mg/mL (p < 0.05). The conclusion that moringa leaf extract at a concentration of 1.0 mg/mL in TCG medium provides optimal cryoprotection, improving the post-thaw quality of Donggala bull sperm. This natural additive may serve as a promising supplement in semen extenders to enhance artificial insemination outcomes and genetic conservation efforts.

Abstract

Young children’s knowledge of dengue prevention remains low due to the limited use of concrete and interactive learning media. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of behavior board media in enhancing children’s knowledge of dengue prevention in Early Childhood Education. The study employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design based on Kurt Lewin’s model, consisting of two cycles, involving 14 children aged 5–6 years in group B at RA Al Munawarah. Data were collected through observation, checklist-based knowledge tests, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using descriptive quantitative methods based on the percentage of learning achievement. The results showed a significant improvement in children’s knowledge, increasing from 29.04% in the pre-cycle to 62.01% in the first cycle and reaching 86.06% in the second cycle. Improvements were observed in indicators such as recognizing the causes of dengue, understanding preventive measures (3M), maintaining environmental cleanliness, and avoiding mosquito bites. The findings indicate that behavior board media is effective as a visual-interactive stimulus that enhances conceptual understanding and promotes healthy behavior through positive reinforcement and active child engagement. The novelty of this study lies in integrating visual media with a behavioral approach in early childhood health education. Practically, this media can be used as a contextual learning strategy to improve children’s health literacy from an early age.

Abstract

The use of English in classroom interaction remains a challenge in many EFL contexts, particularly in Indonesia and in this case in Thailand. As the classroom often becomes the primary space for exposure to English, teacher discourse plays a critical role in shaping opportunities for meaningful interaction. This study aims to describe how English is used in classroom discourse and how teachers’ strategies influence student participation. Employing a descriptive qualitative design, the study involved one experienced English teacher from Thailand selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using an observation checklist and field notes, and then analyzed thematically to identify patterns of English use, code-switching, and discourse practices. The findings indicate that classroom discourse was dominated by giving instructions and code-switching. English use for explaining material and grammar was limited, while questioning occurred regularly. However, corrective feedback, pronunciation practice, authentic material use, and encouragement for students’ active participation were minimal or absent. In conclusion, teacher discourse ensured procedural clarity but reinforced a teacher-centered environment, offering limited communicative opportunities. Pedagogical implications highlight the importance of adopting student-centered approaches, integrating authentic resources, corrective feedback, and motivational strategies to promote learners’ active use of English.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Civics Education (PKn) in improving the communication skills of elementary and Islamic elementary school students (SD/MI). The background of the research stems from the urgency of communication as the core of the educational process and as a means of shaping national character. The research method employs a qualitative approach through a literature review of various relevant sources. The findings show that Civics Education plays a strategic role in fostering speaking ability, building self-confidence, and shaping critical and democratic attitudes. Interactive learning strategies such as open questioning, group discussions, deliberation simulations, simple presentations, storytelling, and the use of basic technology prove effective in developing students’ communication skills. Challenges such as passivity, limited vocabulary, and the dominance of lecture methods can be addressed through the teacher’s role as a facilitator who creates a supportive, democratic, and appreciative classroom atmosphere. The conclusion emphasizes that Civics Education is not merely a cognitive subject but also a medium for forming communicative, participatory, and democratic character relevant to global demands. This study also opens opportunities to develop more innovative Civics learning models by utilizing digital technology to meet communication challenges in the modern era.
