Abstract

Background: The prevalence of smartphone usage continues to rise, becoming deeply embedded in daily routines across all age groups. Young adults are particularly significant users, often engaging in dual-tasking, such as texting while walking. This behavior may lead to biomechanical alterations, particularly in cervical posture, which could have long-term musculoskeletal implications. Objective: This study investigates the biomechanical alterations in cervical angle during walking with and without dual-task texting among smartphone users, specifically focusing on young adults. Method: A quantitative observational study was conducted using a single group repeated measurement design. Thirty male participants, aged 21.07 ± 1.05 years, were involved. Cervical angle degrees were measured using video analysis, with data processed through the Kinovea application to extract kinematic coordinates. Results: The One Way Repeated ANOVA Test revealed a significant increase (p<0.01) in cervical angle degree during texting while walking, indicating that dual-tasking notably affects cervical posture. Conclusion: The findings highlight that dual-task texting induces significant biomechanical changes in cervical posture.

Abstract

Introduction: Back pain has become one of the most common and serious musculoskeletal symptoms. About 5% of those symptoms require medical treatment. Back pain is generally complained of in the II to III trimester of the n's perception. This is due to the effects of musculoskeletal changes, namely an increase in the load on the vertebrae due to the growth of the fetus that is getting bigger. The occurrence of back pain during pregnancy is closely related to various patterns of pain in the back, including low back pain, pelvic girdle pain, and combination pain. In the lower middle and lower middle regions, especially Asia, they still often face challenges related to poor health and the economy, as well as a lack of knowledge about the problem of back pain during pregnancy. This is important to know so that it becomes an effort if back pain arises in pregnant women and can be handled properly. Objective: To find out the prevalence and how the pattern of back pain experienced by pregnant women changes. Methods: This study used a literature review design. Usually, risk assessment is done using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Critical Appraisal Score. Results: The results of this study found that back pain is often reduced during the III trimester of pregnancy, which can be affected by increasing gestational age, jobs, and pregnant women who have a history of pain. The pain patterns found were low back pain (LBP) as much as 3%–86%, pelvic girdle pain (PGP) by 2%–37%, and combo pain by 22%–42%.Conclusion: The prevalence of back pain in developing countries, especially the Asian region, showed the most LBP complaint patterns with a percentage of 3%–86% of the total 2,334 respondents who experienced back pain during the third trimester of pregnancy.

Abstract

Introduction: The developmental process of the fetus disrupts the daily activities of pregnant women, leading to musculoskeletal system disorders, mainly back pain. Fetal development causes postural changes and a shift in the body's centre of gravity to the anterior of the pregnant woman, resulting in paraspinal muscle tension and abdominal muscle weakness. Ignoring back discomfort during pregnancy can negatively affect a woman's overall health and happiness. Lumbar Stabilization Exercises are physical activities that aim to enhance neuromuscular function, strengthen the lower back, and improve flexibility, all of which contribute to maintaining spinal stability. This study aims to determine the effect of lumbar stabilisation exercise on the quality of life of pregnant women experiencing discomfort from back pain. Methods: The subjects of this study are pregnant women located at the Puskesmas Kartasura worksite who experience complaints of back pain. We assigned 11 respondents to the treatment group who underwent the exercise therapy known as LSE. We assigned another 11 respondents to the control group, who attended prenatal classes either in the village or at the clinic. We used the WHOQOOL Bref-Ina as the quality-of-life questionnaire. The data analysis involved using univariate analysis, normality tests, homogeneity tests, influence tests, and difference tests. Results: This study found that Lumbar Stabilization Exercise (LSE) affects the quality of life of pregnant women who report back pain (p = 0.000); however, there is no statistically significant difference (p = 0.902) between the treatment group and the control group. Conclusion: Lumbar Stabilization Exercises (LSE) effectively improve the quality of life for pregnant women experiencing back pain, as evidenced by significant improvements in physical, psychological, social, and environmental domains.
