Abstract

This study aims to analyze differences in tempo sensitivity among elementary school students in rural and urban areas using the Carl Orff approach through body percussion techniques. Tempo sensitivity is a vital component in music education that supports the development of motor coordination, concentration, and structured thinking. The research employed a comparative experimental method without a control group, involving 44 fifth-grade students from both rural and urban settings. Data were collected using musical skill tests and analyzed through normality and Mann-Whitney tests. The results indicate a significant difference between the rural and urban student groups (significance value 0.009 < 0.05), suggesting that socio-cultural environments influence the development of tempo sensitivity. Urban students demonstrated higher tempo awareness, possibly due to greater exposure to music and popular culture, while rural students faced limitations in musical resources and expressive freedom. These findings highlight the importance of culturally responsive pedagogical approaches in elementary music education.

Abstract

Collaborative skills are one of the essential 21st-century skills that should be developed starting in elementary school. This study aims to describe the collaborative skills of fifth-grade elementary school students following the implementation of the Orff Method based on the Jigsaw Model. The approach used was a descriptive quantitative study with a one-shot case study design. The research subjects were all 37 fifth-grade students at SDN 1 Saguling, Baregbeg Subdistrict, Ciamis Regency. Data were collected using a collaboration skills observation sheet consisting of 15 indicators based on five aspects of Johnson & Johnson’s (2014) theory, with a rating scale of 1–4. The results of the study indicate that the overall average final score for students’ collaborative skills reached 84.95%. A total of 51.35% of students fell into the high-to-very-high category, with the aspect of positive interdependence receiving the highest score (90.99%) and the aspect of group processing receiving the lowest score (73.65%). These findings indicate that the application of the Orff Method based on the Jigsaw Model has the potential to positively stimulate the collaborative skills of fifth-grade elementary school students, although reinforcement in the group processing aspect is still needed.

Abstract

This article describes the profile of beat and tempo learning in fifth grade at SDN Cisengkol. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving one fifthgrade teacher and 33 students. Data were collected through classroom observations, interviews, and documentation studies. The findings revealed that beat and tempo learning was still teacher centered through song memorization, desk tapping, and simple hand-clapping activities without meaningful musical exploration. Learning media, worksheets, and specific evaluation instruments for beat and tempo learning were also unavailable. Although students showed enthusiasm during singing and movement activities, they still experienced difficulties in maintaining consistent beat and tempo. The study concludes that beat and tempo learning at SDN Cisengkol has not been implemented optimally, as it lacks varied learning activities, supporting media, and specific evaluation instruments for beat and tempo competencies. Abstract

Social insight is a key dimension of interpersonal intelligence that underpins students’ capacity to understand social situations and interact effectively with others. However, this capacity often remains suboptimal among elementary school students, necessitating intentional learning interventions. This study aims to examine the effect of the Auditory Repetition Exploration Creativity (AREC) Model on the Social insight of fourth-grade elementary school students in music education learning. A quantitative experimental approach with a posttest-only control group design was employed, involving 39 students in the experimental class and 39 students in the control class at SDN 1 Siluman, Tasikmalaya City, selected through saturated sampling. Data were collected using a Social insight instrument covering three dimensions: self-awareness, understanding of social situations and social ethics, and problem-solving skills. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and an Independent Sample t-test. The results showed that the mean Social insight score of the experimental class (45.56) was significantly higher than that of the control class (39.33). The t-test confirmed a highly significant difference (t = −7.409; p = 0.000 < 0.05), with the experimental class predominantly falling in the high category (89.74%) compared to the control class (23.08%). These findings demonstrate that the AREC Model has a significant positive effect on students’ Social insight in elementary school music education learning.

Abstract

The background of this research is the low interest in learning music of fifth-grade students at SDN 2 Bojongmengger, indicated by a lack of attention and active participation in the learning process. This study aims to determine the implementation of melodica ensemble playing and to describe the stimulation of students' interest in learning music after the application of the method. The research method used is quantitative with a Pre-Experimental design in the form of a One-Shot Case Study. The research sample used a saturated sampling technique involving all 11 fifth-grade students at SDN 2 Bojongmengger. Data were collected using a closed 1-5 Likert scale questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability (26 valid items), then analyzed using descriptive statistics based on Azwar's three-level criteria. The results showed that the implementation of melodica ensemble playing for four meetings was carried out very well through structured stages. Post-intervention, students' overall interest in learning music was in the high category with a total average score of 105.37. Specifically, 63.6% of students achieved high criteria and 36.4% were in medium criteria. Thus, the application of melodica ensemble playing proved effective as a stimulation medium to increase students' interest in learning music in elementary schools.

Abstract

Teacher burnout has become an important concern in elementary education due to increasing workloads, administrative demands, and emotional involvement in teaching activities. Therefore, a valid and reliable instrument is needed to accurately measure burnout among elementary school teachers. This study aimed to examine the psychometric properties of the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) for elementary school teachers using the Rasch Model approach. The research employed a quantitative method with a survey design using a questionnaire consisting of 22 items adapted from the MBI dimensions, namely Emotional Exhaustion, Depersonalization, and Personal Accomplishment. Data were collected from 42 elementary school teachers and analyzed using Winsteps software based on the Rasch Model. Instrument quality was evaluated through item validity and reliability analysis, including Person Reliability, Item Reliability, and Cronbach’s Alpha. The results showed that 18 out of 22 items met the validity criteria and were retained, while four items were excluded due to misfit statistics. Reliability analysis indicated that the instrument demonstrated satisfactory reliability and consistency in measuring teacher burnout. The findings suggest that the modified Maslach Burnout Inventory is a valid and reliable instrument for assessing burnout among elementary school teachers. This instrument can be utilized in educational research and practice to identify burnout levels and support teacher well-being and professional performance.
