Abstract

The situation in Indonesia is currently being hit by the spread of COVID-19. A number of policies were immediately taken by the government to break the chain of the spread of COVID-19. One of the policies in the education sector taken by the government related to the COVID-19 case is Online Learning for students. Furthermore, the ability to understand mathematics is also important for students to have, because this ability is a prerequisite for someone to have mathematical problem solving abilities. This study aims to make readers aware of the effect of online learning on students' mathematical understanding abilities. This study uses a survey method directly to students in schools with quantitative descriptive research. Data collection techniques used are test and non-test techniques. The instrument used in this study was a test of the mathematical understanding ability of 10th grade high school students and a questionnaire questionnaire. The subjects of this study were the 10th grade students of MA Al-I'dadiyyah Bahrul Ulum as many as 27 students. Based on the results of hypothesis testing, the effect of online learning on mathematical understanding ability shows a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, then o is rejected and is accepted, and the study concludes that online learning affects the mathematical understanding ability of 10th grade students of MA Al-I'dadiyyah Bahrul Ulum on matrix addition and subtraction operations.

Abstract

Mathematics is a basic science that plays an important role in the development of science and technology. Mathematics is used as a means of thinking, developing reasoning power, logical, systematic, and critical thinking. One of the important aspects in mastering mathematics is the ability of students to apply mathematics in various situations in everyday life. Given the importance of mathematics education, various types of tests on students' mathematical abilities have been held, one of them is PISA study. PISA survey especially evaluates on students’ability on applying their mathematics knowledge in solving problems from real life context. However, based on result of latest PISA and severeal pervious studies, show that students in Indonesia are still weak in connecting mathematical concepts that have been studied with problems in everyday life. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the use of PISA-like Mathematics Problems within personal context, especially math problems that are relevant to the real-life context of Indonesian students. Due of that, in this study, the PISA-like Mathematics Problems within personal context will be developed. The type of research used is Research and Development (R&D) research, by adapting ADDIE model. The study was conducted at a class of XI-A SMPN 2 Sumobito Jombang. The results show that the PISA-like mathematics problems are valid and practical. Besides that, the results of the implementation of the PISA-like Mathematics Problems within personal context in this study showed that there were students who rarely even completed non-routine math problems such as the PISA-like mathematics problems.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to develop mathematics learning instruments in the form of communicative skills-based modules that conform to 4C's criteria on trigonometric ratio. This research uses Research and Development methods adapted in the development of the ADDIE model. The subjects of this study were class X learners at Madinatul ‘Ulum Jombang High School for the academic year 2020/2021. As for data collection techniques are interviews and questionnaires. Researchers designed a learning instrument in the form of communicative-based modules. The results of this study showed that (1) Assessment of the validity of learning instruments in the form of communicative-based modules by two material experts received a percentage of 94% and 75.5% with a very valid and quite valid category. (2) Assessment of the practicality of learning instruments in the form of communicative-based modules by learners gets a percentage of 82.07% with a very practical category. Based on the results of the above research, researchers concluded that learning instruments in the form of communicative-based modules are declared valid and practical based on the assessment of experts and learners, so it is worth using in mathematical learning.

Abstract

One of the prerequisites for students in studying mathematics is to understand integers, both positive and negative integers. But negative integers have significant differences with positive integers. In addition, negative integers are known to have a significant difference with positive integers. Therefore the purpose of this research is to see how students understand negative integers by using a number line. The subjects of this study were class VI students of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Nurul Hidayah Nganjuk. From this study, it was found that 50% of students described the position of numbers on the number line by sorting them and without writing negative signs. 8% of students describe the position of numbers on the number line with the appropriate concept. 17% of students describe the position of numbers on the number line correctly but ignore the zeros. And as much as 25% of students describe the position of numbers on the number line by only writing positive numbers on the right side.
