Abstract

This study evaluates the Artificial Intelligence (AI) literacy of university lecturers and examines its subsequent impact on their academic performance, covering teaching, research, and administrative tasks. With the rapid advancement of generative AI in education, AI literacy is crucial for maximizing efficiency and effectiveness. A mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative thematic interviews, was employed to measure understanding, needs, and perceived impact. The quantitative results reveal a high conceptual AI literacy (average score: 4.36) among lecturers, alongside strong optimism regarding AI’s transformative role in education (90.9% believing in major change). Quantitatively, AI significantly increases efficiency in lecture preparation and research productivity. Qualitatively, however, the implementation is challenged by critical issues of academic integrity and a lack of systemic readiness (regulations, infrastructure). The key finding is the dual role of AI: it acts as a valuable "thinking partner" that boosts creativity and productivity, yet simultaneously introduces ethical concerns regarding humanistic teaching and student dependency. The study concludes that continuous, specific training on AI ethics and prompt engineering is an urgent institutional necessity to harness AI’s benefits responsibly.

Abstract

Mentoring in learning through Mentimeter Platform is highly essential for english teachers at SMA Negeri 12 Makassar. The unavailability of integrated technology-based learning media highlights the need to enhance teachers' creativity and the quality of learning, which must be addressed urgently. This training aims to boost teachers' creativity in developing IT-based English-learning media. This community service program adopts the Interactive Teaching and Learning method, using interviews as an instrument with a sample of 5 English teachers who also served as respondents in the activity through purposive sampling. The results of the program indicate improvements in teachers' skills in using Mentimeter and transforming conventional teaching materials into interactive, technology-based learning media. This progress was supported by students' enthusiasm, along with their high interest and motivation to engage with the learning English materials delivered by teachers using the Mentimeter platform. Moreover, the students’ active participation during the activities provided positive feedback and evaluations for the teachers, encouraging them to be more innovative and creative in designing technology-integrated materials and media. Students expressed a desire for more interactive and enjoyable learning experiences, which they found helpful in better understanding the material and actively participating in the learning process.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of using short stories on students’ reading comprehension. A quantitative method with a pre-experimental design was used, involving 30 eighth-grade students selected through random sampling. A reading test based on short stories was administered to assess five comprehension indicators: main idea, detailed information, inference, vocabulary, and reference. A pre-test was conducted to measure students’ initial abilities, followed by a treatment through short story-based instruction, and a post-test was conducted to measure improvement. The average pre-test score was 52.86, while the post-test average increased to 76.16. A paired sample t-test showed a significant difference (p = 0.000 < 0.05), indicating that the treatment had a positive effect. Among all indicators, the most notable improvement was in reference (from 46.67% to 90%), followed by vocabulary (from 55% to 84%). These results suggest that short stories effectively support the development of students’ reading comprehension, especially in helping them identify references and understand vocabulary in context. Overall, the use of short stories not only improved comprehension scores but also contributed to more consistent performance among students. Therefore, short stories can be considered a beneficial tool in teaching reading comprehension to eighth-grade students at SMPN 26 Makassar.

Abstract

This study was conducted to explore the creativity of English teachers in designing differentiated learning materials for senior high school students. The research was motivated by the fact that many teachers still rely on traditional methods, such as lectures, which are considered less effective in fostering students’ motivation and enthusiasm for learning. In reality, teachers are expected to be innovative in creating teaching materials that are engaging, aligned with students’ learning styles, and capable of improving their understanding of the subject matter. A descriptive qualitative method was employed in this research, utilizing interviews and documentation of teaching materials in the form of modules. The participants were two English teachers from SMAN 2 Makassar and SMAN 8 Makassar. The findings revealed that both teachers demonstrated creativity in designing differentiated learning materials by making use of Canva. Through this platform, they successfully addressed students’ varying levels of readiness and learning styles by producing visually appealing and interactive materials. In summary, the teachers involved in this study exhibited a high level of creativity in developing instructional materials. This was evident in their use of digital media during the preparation of content, as further supported by the documentation collected throughout the research.

Abstract

This study investigates the use of ChatGPT to assist students in English writing classes, specifically in the Paragraph Writing course at UNM Parangtambung. The objectives of the research are to explore: (1) how ChatGPT supports students in English writing classes, and (2) the impact of using ChatGPT on students’ writing. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, with data collected through classroom observations and semi-structured interviews involving one English lecturer and students from class E24 at UNM Parangtambung. The findings reveal that: (1) students use ChatGPT to help generate ideas, construct sentences, and improve efficiency in completing writing tasks; (2) most students acknowledged that ChatGPT facilitates the writing process by providing quick references, enriching vocabulary, and offering feedback; (3) however, students were also aware of ChatGPT’s limitations, such as the use of complex language, occasional inaccuracies, the need for lecturer validation, and ethical concerns regarding student dependence on ChatGPT, which may reduce critical thinking skills and interest in reading. The study concludes that while ChatGPT is considered helpful in addressing writing challenges and enhancing learning motivation, it cannot replace the essential role of lecturers in the teaching and learning process.

Abstract

This study examined the effect of the differentiated learning approach on EFL students’ vocabulary acquisition at the junior high school level. Vocabulary is a fundamental component of language learning; however, many EFL students still experience difficulties due to differences in readiness levels, interests, and learning profiles. Although differentiated learning has been widely discussed in previous studies, its empirical implementation in improving vocabulary acquisition in junior high school EFL contexts remains limited. Therefore, this study aimed to determine whether the differentiated learning approach significantly affects students’ vocabulary acquisition. This study employed a quantitative method using a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group. The population consisted of all ninth-grade students at UPT SMPN 3 Kelara, and the sample was selected through purposive sampling, involving two classes as the experimental and control groups. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests, and analyzed using statistical tests to measure the differences between groups. The findings revealed that the experimental group demonstrated significantly greater improvement compared to the control group. The mean score of the experimental group increased substantially from 30.71 in the pre-test to 65.95 in the post-test, indicating the effectiveness of differentiated learning in enhancing students’ vocabulary acquisition. In conclusion, the differentiated learning approach significantly improves EFL students’ vocabulary acquisition and provides an effective alternative to conventional teaching methods in promoting student-centered learning at the junior high school level.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate students' engagement in learning English using the flipped learning model at MTs. Yapit Tonrorita. The flipped learning model was chosen for its potential to increase students' preparedness and interactive activity during in-class time. Employing a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach, the study found that students generally exhibited positive engagement despite facing some obstacles. In terms of behavioral engagement, students showed good attention and cooperation, especially in group work; however, a gender gap was observed, with female students being more active in verbal discussions while male students remained passive. In conclusion, the Flipped Learning model effectively boosted students' behavioral and emotional engagement. The study implies the need for tailored instructional strategies within the flipped learning model to specifically address the observed gender gap in participation and mitigate student cognitive reliance on the teacher.
