Abstract

The study aims to portray the implementation of bilingual language policy and its implications for multiculturalism and internationalization of higher education. The meta-analysis research design enables the researchers in this study to search the available published public documents that are relevant for this study. The result of the study indicates that the implementation of language policy on bilingual education in higher education contexts facilitates the preservation of local and national identities, fosters multicultural pedagogical interaction, and supports the internationalization of universities. This study recommends further in-depth investigation in a multicultural setting with longitudinal approach.

Abstract

The aims of this research are to find out the teacher’s challenges in teaching English and the student‟s challenges in learning English at junior high school during pandemic dealing with learning English online. This research uses qualitative method. The data of this research were collected through questionnaire and interview. The subjects of this research were the teacher who teaches at second grade and the second-grade students at SMP PGRI BAREMBENG that was consisted 30 students which were taken by using random sampling. The result of data analysis found that (1) there are some challenges faced by the teacher in teaching English online at second grade students including, student‟s interest and enthusiasm in learning English online, difficulty in using ICT, difficulty in providing and explaining learning material, difficulty in measuring student‟s improvement and achievement and assessing student‟s work, (2) there are some challenges faced by the students at second grade including less enthusiastic (student‟s interests and motivation), difficulty in the learning process, and the lack of internet package and internet network.

Abstract

This research is descriptive quantitative analysis research that aims to determine students' perceptions of digital-based learning in the ICT class at Universitas Negeri Makassar. The population in this study was 150 students of the English education program who programmed ICT courses which were divided into four classes in the Class of 2019 with a total of 38 students as a sample. Research data were obtained by questionnaire. The technique of analyzing data used in this research is a descriptive analysis using Microsoft Excel. Based on data that has been processed, students' perceptions of digital-based learning are divided into five indicator categories, namely: Digital Material, Discussion, Exercise, Quiz, and General with the overall average value of perception of 100.58 being in the positive category (92 - 149) which support the claim that using e-learning to supplement Face-to-face teaching improves the learning experience in general and that the online learning has the potential to facilitate students with more alternatives, versatility, assets, and opportunities while also allowing educators to teach using different delivery and evaluation methods.

Abstract

This study was conducted to know and identify the challenges faced by teachers in teaching English in the current curriculum change. The research method that will be used is the descriptive qualitative method. The subjects are 102 teachers in SMA/MA/SMK/equivalent in South Sulawesi Province. Data obtained from essay questions were analyzed through qualitative data analysis techniques through coding. The results of the analysis were in the form of a description of the factors that affect the implementation of English teaching strategies before and during the Covid-19 Pandemic era. This description will be useful for learners, teachers, policymakers, and foreign language learning theorists. The results of the study indicate that many factors affect the teacher’s strategies in teaching English in the current curriculum change (before and during the Pandemic Covid-19 era). The factors come from students’ conditions, teachers’ conditions, school conditions, environmental conditions, materials conditions, learning process, administration process, and technology implementation.

Abstract

This research paper aims to explore a potential model for speaking through which consists of: a) strategies of using art as a medium for learning English; b) challenges to use art as a medium for learning English. This qualitative case study uses semi-structured interviews and observation in three schools of South Sulawesi. Data were analyzed through thematic analysis approach. The findings show that there were four strategies of using art as a medium for learning English, namely: a) using art to learn vocabulary; b) using art to learn grammar; c) employing art as a medium for learning process simple writing and; d) using art as a medium for speaking. In addition, the challenges they face include linguistic and practical challenges. The findings of this study extend the debates of learning English through art media. The implication of this study is that using art as a medium for learning English can be a model for EFL in similar contexts.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out whether or not the effect of using audio-visual media on the student’s listening skills. This research took place at SMA Negeri 2 Jeneponto. The population of this research was the tenth student of SMA Negeri 2 Jeneponto. The researchers used a listening test by using audio-visual media to collect the data. The instrument of this research was a multiple-choice written test which administer as a pre-test and post-test. Based on the result of the mean score, the researchers found that there are effects of using audio-visual learning media because the result of the post-test was higher than the result of the pre-test (64.33 > 43.50). Then, the researchers conclude that the effect of using audio-visual learning media on the student’s listening skills at SMA Negeri 2 Jeneponto academic year 2022/2023.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine students’ perception of teacher talk in English teaching learning process in the fifth semester at English education study program during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research is quantitative research, using survey research. The population in this study were 172 students from class A, B, C, D, and class Pare-Pare who used voluntary sampling. Data collection techniques through the distribution of questionnaires. Data were analyzed by descriptive analysis. The results showed that student’s perception of teacher talk in the teaching and learning process of Fifth Semesters at English Education Study Program during COVID-19 Pandemic was in positive classification. The conclusion, students were enthusiastic with the Teacher Talk that applied by the teacher in English Teaching learning Process.

Abstract

This study aimed to discover whether the use of film stories could improve students’ ability in writing narrative text. The method of the research was pre-experimental with one group pretest and posttest design. The population of the study was 11th Grade students of Senior High School MA DDI Kanang, West Sulawesi in the 2021/2022 academic year. Twenty-five (25) students were selected as samples of the study using a random sampling technique. The instrument of this research was a writing test which was administered as a pretest and posttest. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data. The results of the data analysis showed that the posttest mean score was 83.84. This was greater than the pretest mean score that was 68.96. Furthermore, the significant value of this research (0.000) was smaller than the alpha level (0.05). this means that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that Film stories could be used as media in improving the students’ ability in writing a narrative text of 11th Grades of MA DDI Kanang.

Abstract

The aims of this research are to find out the level of students’ self-efficacy based on the self-efficacy aspect during the process of writing bachelor’s theses and the students’ ways to improve their self-efficacy during the process of writing bachelor’s theses process. This research used mixed method, which means that qualitative and quantitative were used in this research. In this article only contains the first research question which used quantitative method.   The data of this research was collected through an online questionnaire. The sample of this research were decided by using purposive sampling technique. There were 30 students from class A of the 2018 cohorts of the English Language Education Study Program (PSPBI) at State University of Makassar who participated in online questionnaire then there are 6 students participated in online interview. The result of data analysis found that (1) most of the students were in medium level of self-efficacy (73.3%) and the rest of the students in the high self-efficacy level (26.7%).

Abstract

This paper aims to explore teachers’ perceptions on the implementation of English teaching strategies in the current curriculum change.  The key question is that  what are the teachers' perceptions of English teaching strategies in the current curriculum change? This study was conducted in one of the Indonesian provinces with the participants of 102 English teachers. The instrument of data collection used Likert-scale questionnaires. The questionnaires contains specific questions on teachers’ responses on their strategies in relation to current curriculum reform. The data gained in this study was analysed using vocabulary statistics available in lextutor programs.  The result of the study shows that there is a majority of the English teachers in this study perceive that curriculum reforms have impacted positively on their teaching strategies and provide diverse categories of responses to change. The reason for this is that is a tendency of English teachers to upgrade their knowledge and skills to adapt with the change. In addition, teachers of English are recommended to learn about the essence of change so that they can implement the change successfully.
