Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the students’ achievement and anxiety by the implement of the think pair share method teaching speaking skill at SMA Insan Cendekia Syeh Yusuf Gowa. The study is designed in this study was quantitative with post-test and pre-test of the students tenth grade SMA Insan Cendekia Syeh Yusuf Gowa's academic year 2022-2023. The population of this study is class X was used as the sample, and it was chosen using a random selection procedure. The findings demonstrated that the mean scores of post-test of students was greater than the mean pre-test scores; the post-test mean score was (90.5333), whereas the mean score pre-test was (81.0667). The score from the alternative hypothesis (H1) is approved, hypothesis (H0) is rejected. The results of this study indicates that implementing THINK PAIR SHARE to students in Class X of SMA Insan Cendekia Syeh Yusuf Gowa was significantly improved the students’ achievement and reduce speaking anxiety. Abstract

This study aims to determine whether using pictures improves students' vocabulary mastery. Using research method pre-experimental research design conducted with a sample of 27 class VII.A students using a purposive sampling technique. Researcher used pretest and posttest to collect data. The results of data analysis show that by using pictures improved students' vocabulary mastery, even though the improvement in students’ vocabulary was a slight improvement. This is evidenced by the students' mean score before treatment (48.00 points), lower than the mean score after treatment (71.62 points). Because this study's significance value  (0.000) is less than  its significance value (0.05), H0 in this study is rejected, whereas Ha is accepted.. So it can be concluded that using pictures can improve the vocabulary mastery of class VII.A students at SMP Negeri 3 Marioriawa.Keywords: Vocabulary Mastery, Picture

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explain the development of language research in science learning which can improve students' understanding during practicums in the laboratory. This research also explores the factors that contribute to increasing student understanding and bibliometric analysis using the keywords "language", "practicum", "laboratory" and "science" from 2015 to 2021. There is also an explanation of curriculum development and the influence of language in science learning. The use of technology and laboratories is an important factor in improving student literacy and language. Student characteristics, motivation, teacher-student relationships, and student psychological conditions can all be concluded to be closely interconnected. Language is a determining factor in the success of science learning during practical work in the laboratory. Therefore, the language style used by the teacher during practicum in the laboratory should be as simple as possible to make students easy to understand. This paper also includes language barriers for students with special needs. The results of the bibliometric analysis show that the research trend on language in science learning is increasing. This paper can be used as material for consideration by readers in understanding the current conditions regarding the importance of language in science learning, especially practical learning in the laboratory.

Abstract

The research was aimed at investigating: 1) To find out the students’ achievement in their descriptive text writing using Think-Talk-Write and Clustering Technique. 2) To find out the students’ interest in the implementation of the Think-Talk-Write and Clustering Technique in writing descriptive text. This study was a quasi-experimental research with two groups. The population of this research was the 4th and 6th semester of the English Department in the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education at Iqra Buru University. Directed took cluster random as the sample. As a result, the 22 students were selected as the experimental group and the 20 students as the control group. The data were obtained from the pretest and posttest. Then, the data were analyzed by using an independent sample t-test. The mean achievement scores of the experimental group were 64.68 bigger than the mean achievement scores of the control group was 53.05. In the pretest, the t-test for Equality of Means in the Sig. (2-tailed) was bigger than Sig. (2-tailed) in the posttest. Because The result of this research revealed that the mean achievement scores of the students in the experimental group are greater than the mean achievement scores of the students in the control group. So, there was a significant difference in correlation between the mean achievement scores of students taught using Think-Talk-Write and using the clustering technique. This suggests that the Think-Talk-Write technique facilitates the students to improve their writing achievement.

Abstract

Technology and Hybrid Multimedia for Language Learning and Cross-Cultural Communication in Higher Education is a critical component of English language learning. The purpose of this study is to explore technology and hybrid multimedia for language Learning in English language learners (EFL) in higher education. This study aims to explore how cross-cultural communication skills affect learners' technology and hybrid multimedia learning experience and their English proficiency in the context of public university learning. In addition to that, this research uses a case study approach focusing on a group of EFL learners. The data is gathered via comprehensive interviews with EFL (English as a Foreign Language) learners to investigate their encounters and perspectives concerning cross-cultural communication. The interviews and observations are examined to identify and analyze the recurring themes. The results of the study revealed that English learners who have good cross-collaborative communication skills tend to have higher English proficiency. The study reveals that cross-communicative communication has a positive influence on English language proficiency, as it allows EFL learners to gain a deep understanding of various languages and cultures, enhancing their ability to interact with people from diverse cultural contexts effectively.

Abstract

The purposes of this study were to find out 1) The strategies used by English teachers in Islamic boarding schools to develop students' multilingual competence. 2) The challenges faced by English teachers in Islamic boarding schools in developing students' multilingual competencies. 3) Facilities used by English teachers in Islamic boarding schools to develop students' multilingual competencies. This study is qualitative research that uses an exploratory descriptive qualitative method. The participants of this research are English teachers and students in MTS Hj. Haniah and MA Hj. Haniah. The instruments used in this research are interviews and observation. Interviews were conducted with two English teachers and eight students who had been selected using purposive sampling techniques. Observations were made inthe classroom during the learning process and also in the dormitory environment. The results of this study show that there are seven strategies used by English teachers in Islamic boarding schools, including visual, project-based learning, group-individual learning, peer tutoring, daily conversation, vocabulary list,and window-shopping strategies. The challenges faced by English teachers in boarding schools include the lack of English teachers, inadequate facilities, lack of student interest in learning, and students' difficulties in learning two languages at once. The facilities used by English teachers at the boarding school includeclassrooms, dormitories, a library, and a language laboratory.

Abstract

This study aims to determine students' perceptions on the use of English songs in learning listening for students of English Education, Universitas Negeri Makassar. The researcher applied mixed methods, namely quantitative and qualitative to achieve the objectives of the research. The data collected was in the form of a Likert questionnaire using the Google Form and interviews. The subjects of this study were students of the 2019 English Education Study Program. The sample from the questionnaire consisted of 40 students and interviews with 8 students who were taken using a voluntary sampling technique. The results of the data analysis show that: (1) Students’ perception on the use of English songs in learning Listening with a percentage of 55% of students are classified in the very positive category, 40% of students are classified as positive, 5% of students are classified as moderate, and no students have negative perceptions and very negative. (2) The results of the interviews show that students have a positive perception on the use of English songs in learning Listening.

Abstract

This study investigated the use of YouTube video for learning English at senior high school. It aimed to find out how do the students use YouTube for speaking skills at senior high school and what are the student’s perception on the use of YouTube video in learning speaking. This study employed a qualitative method. In this study used purposive sampling to collect the data. Research instrument was used is interview. Findings shows that the students use YouTube video for speaking skill activities in daily life they use in their home and sometimes in school and there is the student download the video and watched everywhere with they own handphone, laptop and tv. The students learning English around 3 minutes until 2 hours in a day.  And also show that students can have a positive perception of using YouTube to improve their speaking skills based on their responses to the interview session.

Abstract

This study aimed to find out the role of TikTok application in helping the 3rd-semester students of FBS Universitas Negeri Makassar to learn English and the perceptions of the 3rd-semester students of FBS Universitas Negeri Makassar regarding the impact and effectiveness of using the TikTok application. This study used a descriptive qualitative method. The participants in this study were the third-semester English education students. The data was collected through surveys and interviews. Based on the findings, the participants gave positive perceptions and also the application has a positive role and impact on the development and deepening of the students' English. The data showed that the TikTok application can help students learn English by increasing the students’ vocabulary and improving their pronunciation. The students also feel the impact and effectiveness of the TikTok application on English language learning.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the way junior high school English teachers implemented their professional competencies in online teaching and learning. This research applied mix method by combining quantitative and qualitative method. The data were collected from three junior high school English teachers in Makassar using questionnaire and interview. The result of this research showed that the three teachers implemented almost all the elaboration of the implementation of professional competency in which teacher A and C were in excellent category while teacher B in good category. In conclusion, junior high school English teachers in Makassar continued to apply the principles of professional competencies even though the teaching and learning process was carried out online.
