Abstract

Islamophobia, the irrational fear, prejudice, or hatred towards Islam and Muslims, has become a pervasive issue in contemporary society. While historical roots of Islamophobia exist, its commercialization has emerged as a distinct phenomenon in recent years. This article explores the commercialization of Islamophobia and its implications, shedding light on how various actors capitalize on apprehension to further their interests. The study employs a literature review approach to analyze and understand the phenomenon, revealing how media, politics, and business exploit and profit from fear, stereotypes, and negative perceptions surrounding Islam and Muslims. The consequences of the commercialization of Islamophobia are profound, perpetuating discrimination, marginalization, and violence against Muslim communities. To counter Islamophobia effectively, collective efforts must be made to dismantle fear-inducing narratives, promote empathy, and foster a comprehensive understanding of Islam and Muslims.

Abstract

Prospective biology teachers have good mastery of the material but are still weak in several indicators of basic teaching skills. Preparing prospective professional biology teachers in Indonesia expects graduates to be able to teach not only in domestic schools but also in schools abroad by integrating Next Generation Science Standards. This study aims to develop prospective teachers' basic teaching skills that integrate Indonesian standards and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) through best practices of microteaching innovation. The research used the Research and Development method. Microteaching lecture tools for prospective biology teachers were developed. The research targets were 82 prospective biology teachers in microteaching courses who were given the same learning environment. The six biology teachers involved came from three partner schools with different statuses: public, nationalist private, and religious private. A t-statistic model comparison test strengthens this finding, where the score of the second microteaching practice differs from the first practice. This research is a form of curriculum implementation for prospective science teachers who integrate NGSS. This research finds that the practice scores in the second microteaching increase after analyzing the first teaching practice video. The impact of these findings provides solutions to create skillful prospective biology teachers.

Abstract

This research explores the intricate phenomenon of code-switching and code-mixing within the realm of bilingual aphasia patients who converse in both Sundanese and Indonesian. This research is essential to understanding the code-switching and code-mixing phenomenon to improve rehabilitation and effective communication for these patients. Employing a descriptive-qualitative methodology, this study aims to shed light on the language dynamics exhibited by these individuals. To this end, data were meticulously gathered through participant observation in everyday communication, supplemented by in-depth interviews conducted with family members and language therapists. The findings from meticulous data analysis illuminate that aphasia patients fluently alternate between Sundanese and Indonesian, frequently engaging in code-switching and code-mixing when grappling with linguistic expression or comprehension difficulties. Furthermore, this language phenomenon manifests in the patients' inclination toward employing shorter and simpler sentence structures. Consequently, these results underscore the importance of accounting for language selection, code-switching, and code-mixing within the language therapy process for Sundanese-Indonesian bilingual aphasia patients. Language therapists are urged to comprehend and adapt to the patients' flexible language utilization while devising tailored therapeutic strategies to enhance their linguistic proficiency. Moreover, this research calls for future investigations to explore this captivating phenomenon across diverse cohorts of bilingual aphasia patients, thus broadening our understanding of the intricacies involved.
