Abstract

Political speeches function not only as formal addresses but also as powerful tools for constructing ideological narratives, legitimizing authority, and influencing public opinion. In a politically polarized and socially diverse country like Indonesia, presidential discourse plays a crucial role in uniting disparate groups and articulating visions for national development and reform. This study critically examines how President Prabowo Subianto frames power and ideology in his 2024 inaugural presidential speech by investigating the linguistic strategies and discursive mechanisms used to construct an image of inclusive leadership, address systemic corruption, and reinforce national identity. Employing a qualitative approach grounded in Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), the research integrates van Dijk’s theory of power and ideology, Fairclough’s modality theory, Wodak’s critical pragmatics, Lakoff and Johnson's conceptual metaphor theory, and Moscovici's theory of social representation. The primary data consists of the official transcript of Prabowo's speech, retrieved from government sources and analyzed through purposive sampling to identify ideologically salient segments. These were manually coded for modality, speech acts, metaphorical constructions, and group representations. The analysis reveals that Prabowo constructs an assertive yet inclusive leadership persona by using a high-certainty modality to project confidence in achieving national goals, particularly food and energy self-sufficiency. Deontic expressions frame these goals as collective moral obligations. Assertive and commissive speech acts function to inform and mobilize, reinforcing his credibility and political commitment. Conceptual metaphors such as "journey" and "disease" simplify complex challenges, portraying national development as a shared path forward and corruption as a harmful condition requiring urgent cures. Through social representation, the speech elevates "the lower class" (e.g., farmers, fishermen) as national heroes while depicting corrupt elites as threats to societal well-being. These linguistic strategies form a coherent populist narrative that legitimizes reformist leadership and appeals to collective identity. This study contributes to the field of political discourse analysis in Indonesia by offering a comprehensive, multi-theoretical lens to unpack the ideological functions of language in presidential communication. It also holds practical implications for political speechwriting, civic education, and public engagement by demonstrating how language can be used to construct legitimacy, inspire unity, and frame national priorities in morally persuasive ways.

Abstract

This research intended to map indigenous knowledge of people in the frontier, outermost, and least developed regions or generally referred to as 3T (Terdepan/Frontier, Terluar/Outermost, Tertinggal/Least Developed) regions. This research employed a qualitative research approach through a descriptive method in which an experimental method was performed for mapping the indigenous knowledge. The target mapping area was Papua, Aceh, West Kalimantan, and East Nusa Tenggara. Geographical position, research funding, and time allocation became the main considerations in selecting these areas. The four 3T regions are said to be the most appropriate as the locals remain to believe and apply their indigenous knowledge. The mapping results found that several indigenous knowledge is potentially tested scientifically in labs, they are Bakar Batu, Tanam Sasi, and Honai in Papua; Rumoh Aceh and Batu Nisan in Aceh; Berjuluk Baatutuk and Betang Radang in West Kalimantan; and Ebang and Welang in East Nusa Tenggara. There are numerous traditions found in the research location, yet those that do not have met the criteria of scientific objects, such as myths and legends, were not included. The mapping results were followed by confirming the opinions of prospective science teachers obtained by 85 % of 54 students who were interested in this finding as a study of ethnocentric The research concluded that the indigenous knowledge of people in 3T regions are unique and required to be further examined scientifically and could be reviewed as a source for Ethnoscience course. This research recommendation is that in science learning, especially in the 3T region should pay attention to efforts to change traditional knowledge into scientific knowledge through integrating the mapping of indigenous knowledge as the content of ethnoscience.

Abstract

This study aims to develop the teaching skills of science teacher candidates by integrating Indonesian standards with the criteria of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) through innovative microteaching practices. A mixed-methods approach was used for this research, which targeted science teacher candidates enrolled in microteaching courses, partner teachers, and microteaching lecturers. A total of 20 teacher candidates from a single microteaching class were the subjects of this research. An innovation introduced in this study allowed each student to review and analyze videos of previous microteaching sessions prior to their own practice. Data was collected from the microteaching curriculum, microteaching videos, and effectiveness tests of two developed products. The instrument used was an open-ended observation sheet. Microteaching practices were found to develop the teaching skills of professional science teacher candidates in line with NGSS criteria. Partner teachers reported a variety of positive experiences related to the development of syllabi, lesson plans, teaching materials, student worksheets, and assessments. The positive practices of these partner teachers were used as material for collaboration with lecturers in microteaching courses. The findings of this research indicate that collaboration with teachers in microteaching courses to provide information and feedback to teacher candidates, from preparation and implementation to evaluation of learning, plays a significant role in developing teaching skills.

Abstract

Communities living near landfill sites are often exposed to high levels of ambient air pollution, which may impact their physical and psychosocial health. This study aims to explore the relationship between ambient air pollution exposure, particularly carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), and the social health outcomes of communities residing near the Kawatuna Landfill in Palu, Indonesia. A cross-sectional study involving 143 respondents was conducted using structured interviews and environmental exposure assessments. Correlation analyses, Mann-Whitney U tests, and regression models were applied to examine the relationships between air pollution exposure and respiratory disorders, smoking behavior, stress levels, and social interaction. The findings revealed a significant positive correlation between CO and NO₂ exposure and stress levels (r=0.217, p = 0.022), although the relationship was weak. No significant associations were found between air pollution exposure and smoking behavior, social interaction, or respiratory disorders in multivariate analyses. The Mann-Whitney U test indicated that individuals with respiratory disorders were exposed to higher levels of CO and NO₂ (p = 0.038). Ambient air pollution exposure in this community is more closely related to psychosocial stress than to physical health behaviors or social interaction. Community-based health interventions should consider the cultural context and perceived environmental risks to effectively promote health in such vulnerable populations.
