Abstract

Wanokaka (Wn) and Anakalang (An) languages are two  of the seven languages spoken in Sumba,  East Nusa Tenggara.  Their speakers  live in Central Sumba Regency in East Nusa Tenggara  Province.  Some linguists have considered the two are dialects of Sumba language.  In Budasi’s study (2007 2009), however, both of them were quantitatively proved  as two diffrent languages spoken in the regency. Based on the lexicostatistics analysis and Swadesh’s classification of language, the  relatedness of the two languages was  75,5 %  which means that they belong to language family (They are not in dialects relationship). Both languages were hyphotesized originally from   Proto Wn-An in Sumba Language Group. Based on this hyphothesis, this paper aims at describing qualitatively the the lexical evidences which differ the two  languages. In this  study, the the compartive method was applied. The population of the study were the speakers of the two languages. Three informant samples were selected based on a set of criteria. The instruments of the data gathering were three word lists: Swadesh, Nothofer, and  Holle; and a tape recorder.  Two types of data: secondary and primary,  were collected.  The obtained data  were analysed descriptively and qualitattively. This study concludes that 24.5 %  of the total lexicons identified from the three word lists are  in different forms that differed the two laguages lexically. Thereare two types of findings. The first findings are a number of lexicons which show the forms  of lexical innovation, that is, the forms of cognat sets which show minimum differences in the their phonological patterns; and. The second, is that,  the existance of lexical retentions generated from the Proto Wn-An.  The whole identified evidences  confirmed  the quantitatif data findings mentioned in Budasi’s study (2007 and 2009), that is, the Wn-An are two different languages generated directly from the Proto Wn-An within Sumba language Group.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aimed to analyze the students' interlingual and intralingual interferences of Tourism Study Program at a State University in North Bali. A qualitative approach was applied by examining the students' final projects of English writing for the academic year 2020/2021.  In this case study, 15 final projects were chosen using the purposive sampling technique. Data collection was done through reading, note-taking, classifying, and describing. The findings revealed that the most frequent interlingual form produced by the students was using Indonesian Syntax Pattern, while the intralingual form was the simplifications. Therefore, interlingual and intralingual interferences were found in the students' final project. There are two implications of this study, i.e. (i) teachers need to enhance their pedagogy for the teaching and learning sessions, particularly English grammar, (ii) students should learn more the English grammatical rules, which they can access many sources to learn English through watching a movie, listening to songs, talking with native speakers, reading novels and magazines.Abstrak:Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis interlingual dan intralingual mahasiswa Program Studi Pariwisata di salah satu Universitas Negeri di Bali Utara. Pendekatan kualitatif digunakan dalam penelitian ini dengan menguji tugas akhir siswa dalam penulisan bahasa Inggris pada tahun ajaran 2020/2021. Dalam studi kasus ini, dipilih 15 tugas akhir dengan teknik purposive sampling. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui membaca, mencatat, mengklasifikasi, dan mendeskripsikan. Hasil temuan mengungkapkan bentuk interlingual yang paling sering dihasilkan oleh siswa adalah menggunakan Pola Sintaks Bahasa Indonesia sedangkan bentuk intralingualnya adalah penyederhanaan. Dengan dimikian, terdapat error interlingual dan intralingual dalam tugas akhir mahasiswa. Ada dua implikasi dari penelitian ini, yaitu (i) pengajar perlu meningkatkan pedagogi mereka untuk proses belajar mengajar khususnya tata bahasa Inggris, (ii) pembelajar harus mempelajari lebih lanjut aturan tata bahasa Inggris. Mereka dapat mengakses banyak sumber untuk belajar bahasa Inggris seperti menonton film, mendengarkan lagu, berbicara dengan penutur asli, membaca novel maupun majalah.

Abstract

The previous studies that describe the phonological system of the isolects and the description of their differing and uniting linguistic features have not yet answered the doubts among Indonesian linguists whether or not the Proto of Sambori-Teta (PSm-Te) were descended from Proto Austronesia (PAn). Thus, this article aims to describe the interrelatedness of the two protoes and to describe the types of sound changes from the PAn to PSm-Te etymons. This descriptive study applied a comparative method by implementing bottom-up and top-down analysis in reconstructing the PSm-Te. The linguistic features as the evidence of the interrelatedness of the two protoes were identified and analyzed using sound change theories. This study found 1691 (99.35%) definitive etymons of PSm-Te among 1702 etymons of Sambori and Teta Isolects identified in this study, and the types of sound change from PAn to PSm-Te etymons showed addition, deletion, metathesis, diphthongization, fusion, fortition, lenition, fronting, and backing. The definitive PSm-Te and the identified types of sound changes can be used as the linguistic evidence to determine that PAn descend PSm-Te. Therefore Sambori and Teta isolects reflect PSm-Te.

Abstract

The Tolaki language and the Moronene languages are part of the Austronesian language group. The reconstruction is done based on the hypothesis of a genetic relationship and regularity. Historical comparison methods were used in this study. The purpose of the reconstruction was to obtain accurate results on the assessment of language relations. It is deemed necessary to reconstruct the proto in order to seek the evidence of the retention and innovation that occur in the two respective languages. From the reconstruction, several findings and proofs were generated, which among others are TlM vocal proto-phonemes: * a, * i, * u, * e, and * o; PTlMr * a are found at the beginning, middle and the end of the word. The proto-phonemes are 1) * a (a-, -a-, -a)> Tl, Mr a, 2) PTlMr * i (i- -i- -i)> Tl, Mr i, 3) PTlMr * u (u -, -u-, -u)> Tl, Mr u, 4) PTlMr * e (e-, -e-, e-)> Tl, Mr e, and 5) PTlMr * o (o-, -o-, o-)> Tl Mr o.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the Waisika language carried out in the Northeast Alor sub-district based on the observation point, which was the object of research. This research uses quantitative and qualitative approaches. In diachronic research methods, there are two main methods in facilitating the direction of research, namely quantitative methods and qualitative methods. Application of minimal pairing procedures and similar environments, it can be found that all vocoids sound in Waisika is vocal segments /a, i, u, e, o/. Application of minimal pairing procedures and similar environments, it can be found that all contoid sounds are consonant segments [p, b, mb, t, nt, d, k, g, nd, h, s, m, n, N, Nk, l, r, w]. Five vowel phonemes, which are found to have complete distribution at the front, central, and back of the morpheme. The phoneme /mb/, /nt/, /d/, /k/, /nd/, /r/, /w/ only exists in the initial and middle position of words. The phonemes /Nk/ are only in the central position of words. The phonemes /N/ are only in the central and back positions.

Abstract

Associated with the language development in Nusa Tenggara Timur (East Nusa Tenggara), especially in Alor Regency, in-depth research needs to be done to the linguistic phenomenon. The phenomenon involves the grouping of languages genetically. Overall language data collection is analyzed by comparative linguistic study Regional languages in Alor regency show unique characteristics, as inspite of the people place to stay between one tribe to another tribe is quite close and there are differences in the language. The diversity of regional languages has an enormous influence on public life. Research on language groupings Kabola, Hamap, and Klon language Clones in Alor Island i is based on the study of the theory of comparative historical linguistics, supported by theory of Antila (1972) and Bynon theory (1979). The study is quantitative ??using syncomparative lexicostatistic technique with 200 vocabulary of Swadesh (1972). Based on lexicostatistic techniques, between Kabola language and the language of Hamap, the highest percentage was found, namely 53%. The percentage between Hamap and Klon languages reached 46%. Furthermore, the percentage between Kabola and Koln languages reached 36% which is the lowest cognate. The three languages ??percentage indicates a kinship of language, compared with fifteen other languages ??as neighbouring languages. The lowest cognate reached an average of 1.5% and the highest ceognat average is 11.1%. The fifteen languages ??can be categorized as mesofilium, microfilium, and a family of languages ??that belong to the languages ??that are not related.

Abstract

Studi deskriptif kualita-tif ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan perkembangan tulisan mahasiswa setelah mendapatkan umpan balik dari dosen. Empat Mahasiswa Jurusan Seni Rupa dan Desain Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha dilibatkan dalam studi ini. Masing-masing dari keempat mahasiswa itu diminta untuk menulis karangan berbahasa Inggris dengan 150 kata yang bertopik „Perkembangan Sejarah Keberadaan Jurusan Seni Rupa dan Disain Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha. Selanjutnya, dosen memberikan koreksi komprehensif yang meliputi: koreksi langsung dan diskusi lisan dengan mahasiswa secara berhadap-hadapan. Dalam koreksi gramatika yang dilakukan oleh dosen, keempat mahasiswa tersebut disuruh merevisi pekerjaannya berdasarkan umpan balik dosen berupa koreksi tulisan yang dicantumkan dalam tulisan asli mereka masing-masing. Diskusi lisan untuk membantu mahasiswa mencapai pemahaman yang lebih baik dalam aspek gramatika pada tulisannya juga dilakukan setelah mereka mengumpulkan kembali hasil revisinya seminggu setelahnya. Seminggu setelah diskusi lisan tersebut, mereka disuruh merevisi tulisan aslinya. Data yang didapat dianalisis secara deskriptif. Temuan penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa mahasiswa mengalami peningkatan dalam tulisan yang mereka telah revisi sesuai dengan umpan balik yang diberikan dosen, akan tetapi kesuksesan ini tidak terjadi dalam tulisan versi tes yang dilakukan pada kegiatan berikutnya. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa koreksi dosen sendiri tidak memfasilitasi belajar kebahasaan.Key words: writing skill, lecturer‟s error feedback, oral conferencing

Abstract

The study aimed at developing a multilingual thematic picture dictionary as a media to support literacy in English language for fifth grade elementary school students in Bali. This study used Design and Development (D&D) model by Richey and Klein (2014). The steps were (1) analysis, (2) design, (3) development, and (4) evaluation. Fifth grade elementary school students and English teachers from rural and urban area were the research subjects. They were chosen through purposeful sampling technique. In analysis, the data were collected through observation, interview, questionnaire, and document analysis. The result of needs analysis found that there is an urgency of developing multilingual thematic picture dictionary. The students needed dictionary while learning English because it helped them in finding the word’s meaning independently and could help them prepare for additional point while participating in teaching learning process content validity judgement showed that the dictionary was highly valid to criteria of a good multilingual thematic picture dictionary. The result showed that the multilingual thematic picture dictionary was categorized as ‘excellent’ media. Thus, it can be used as a media to support fifth grade elementary school students in developing their literacy skills.

Abstract

Artikel ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan tentang perbedaan dan persamaan struktur frase verbal dalamBahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Bali. Dengan menerapkan metoda kualitatif, data utama Bahasa Bali berupa beberapakalimat sederhana di kumpulkan berdasarkan hasil interview melalui para informan yang dipilih. DataBahasa Inggris diambil dari buku teks yang menggambarkan bahasa penutur asli Bahasa Inggris. Data yangterkumpul dianalisis dengan analisis kontrastif (contrastive analysis) yang memanfaatkan rumusan analisislingusitik model trasformasi generatif (generative transformational model). Dalam studi ini, struktur fraseverbal Bahasa Inggris yang telah memiliki sistem gramatika yang telah ada dipakai sebagai model yang sesuaidengan konstruksi frase verbal Bahasa Bali. Konstruksi frase verbal pada kedua bahasa itu ternyata tidaksama, namun pada fonstruksi kalimat positif dimana verbal muncul kedua bahasa tersebut memiliki bentuksama. Konstruksi kalimat sederhana dalam Bahasa Inggris diformulasikan frase nominal-frase keterangan(NP + VP), sedangkan dalam Bahasa Bali formulasinya adalah Frase Nominal + Predikat (FN+Pred). Predini mungkin FN, frase keterangan (FK), atau frase kata sifat (FKS). Konstruksi kalimat negatif dalam BahasaInggris dibentuk dengan pengubahan konstruksi kalimat positif ke bentuk negatif. Dalam Bahasa Bali, pengubahandengan cara ini tidak ada. Yang ada hanya menambahkan kata ‘apakah’ pada kalimat deklaratif danmengubah intonasi deklaratif menjadi intonasi interogatif. Konstruksi kalimat negatif dalam Bahasa Inggrisyang berisi verba memerlukan kehadiran sebuah kata kerja bantu (Aux) dan penanda negatif (Neg). Selanjutnya,elemen do, does, did yang merupakan kata kerja bantu (aux) dan not penanda Neg bukan merupakanelemen yang digunakan pada Bahasa Bali dalam penyusunan konstruksi kalimat negatif. Dalam Bahasa Balibentuk konstruksi kalimat negatif disusun hanya dengan menambahkan kata sing pada kata kerja.Kata-kata kunci: analisis konstrastif, konstruksi frase verbal

Abstract

Artikel ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan persamaan dan perbedaan konstruksi frase verbal Bahasa Inggris danBahasa Anakalang dalam kalimat-kalimat sederhana (basic sentences). Data utama Bahasa Anakalang dalambentuk kalimat sederhana dikumpulkan melalui wawancara langsung dengan para informan yang telah ditentukandalam penelitian ini. Sedangkan data dalam Bahasa Ingris dikumpulkan dari buku-buku teks yangmewakili pernutur asli Bahasa Inggris. Data yang terkumpul dianalisis secara deskriptif dengan menggunakananalisis konstrastif. Studi ini menunjukan bahwa konstruksi frase verbal pada kedua bahasa tersebut tidaksama. Namun demikian, dalam kalimat positif pada kedua bahasa dimana konstruksi frase verbal muncul padakedua bahasa menunjukan kesaamaan. Apabila dalam kalimat bahasa Inggris terdapat konstruksi frase verbaldimana kata kerja bantu muncul, dalam bahasa Russia bentuk tersebut tidak ada. Konstruksi frase verbaldalam bentuk kalimat positif dan negatif dalam Bahasa Inggris yang merupakan transformasi bentuk kalimatdeklaratif positif ditemukan berbeda dalam kontruksi Bahasa Anakalang. Konstruksi interogatif dalam bahasaRusia hanya mengubah intonasi bentuk kalimat deklaratif ke intonasi tanya.Kata-kata kunci: Analisis kontrastif, konstruksi frase verbal
