Abstract

Son preference remains prevalent in various communities, influencing intra-household resource allocation and potentially affecting child health outcomes. This study examines the impact of maternal son preference on stunting and wasting among children in Indonesia, utilizing data from the Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS) waves 4 and 5. Employing a logit regression model, the analysis incorporates various socioeconomic and demographic factors to estimate the effects of maternal son preference on child malnutrition. The findings indicate that while there is no significant correlation between maternal son preference and stunting incidence, a notable increase in the risk of wasting among boys and a reduction in wasting among girls were observed in households where mothers exhibited a son preference. These results underscore the complex interplay between gender biases and child health, highlighting the need for gender-sensitive health interventions. This study contributes to the literature on gender disparities in child health by providing empirical evidence on the nuanced effects of maternal son preference, offering critical insights for policymakers seeking to promote gender equity and improve child welfare in Indonesia.

Abstract

This paper investigates the Presidential Election Cycle Theory by examining the Indonesian stock market's reaction to presidential elections from 2004 to 2024. Specifically, it compares the reactions of Islamic and conventional capital markets. Employing an event study methodology with abnormal return as the indicator, the analysis utilizes secondary data comprising daily stock prices for seven days preceding and following each election. The findings indicate that presidential elections have a significant effect on capital market reactions, as evidenced by abnormal return values. However, the Islamic capital market demonstrates greater resilience than its conventional counterpart in responding to political events, such as presidential elections. The study concludes that the Presidential Election Cycle Theory is applicable to Indonesia, necessitating its consideration by policymakers, investors, and all stakeholders.

Abstract

This research emphasizes the promotion of halal tourism, with a specific focus on the hotel industry as a key indicator. The objective of this study is to elucidate the social construction related to Sharia-based hotels, delving into the intricate relationship between religious values, political ideology, and considerations of public policy. Additionally, the research aims to examine the compliance conditions associated with Sharia labeling within these hotels. Employing qualitative methods, the study employs content analysis within the framework of existing policies and social construction. Furthermore, it utilizes participatory approaches involving five Sharia property business actors to assess the extent of Sharia practices within the hotel industry in Semarang City. The findings reveal that the management and services offered by Islamic hotel businesses do not comprehensively reflect Islamic understanding and identity. It is noteworthy that many practitioners in the Islamic hotel industry tend to base their Sharia concepts on consultations with Islamic religious leaders. Additionally, the incorporation of Sharia rules across various sectors, particularly within the tourism industry, is identified as potentially fostering a standardization of values. In response, the study suggests that policies and regulations should prioritize principles of public justice and guarantee equal constitutional rights to mitigate such homogeneity and preserve cultural diversity.

Abstract

Actualization of Murabahah Financing at PT. Bank Aceh Syariah mostly implements murabahah transactions without orders. This model is classified by the bank into three models, namely murabahah application with additional wakalah contract, murabahah transaction plus wakalah and urbun and murabahah plus down payment without wakalah contract. In its operations, banking entities predominantly apply the first model for reasons of efficiency. This transaction requires recognition of the wakalah contract in the acquisition of the murabahah object. However, the bank did not present the agreement in its records so that the application of this model is not in accordance with the provisions of PSAK 102. This is the main focus for elaborating the provisions of PSAK related to the Murabahah Financing model and comparing the implementation at the Institution. The solution method used is descriptive qualitative with a case study approach to describe the phenomenon comprehensively. Based on the results of the analysis of observation data, interviews and documentation, it was concluded that PT. Bank Aceh Syariah has not followed PSAK in its entirety, especially the recognition of wakalah contracts, plus the lack of supervision in the procurement process of goods by customers, so that there are several cases of customers not buying what is listed in the murabahah contract.
