Abstract

The fisheries cultivation process requires carrying capacity to maintain water quality in order to produce maximum results in the cultivation process. Fisheries cultivation is starting to spread on a small scale (urban farming) with the aim of independent food security. This requires a solution to maintain water quality which aims to increase growth, survival and prevent unpleasant aromas from emerging from cultivation activities. Maintaining water quality can be done by using filtration or recirculation systems in cultivation activities. This scientific article uses a library research method with a qualitative descriptive approach, namely using a content analysis method. Filter media is divided into mechanical (cotton, Dacron), biological (bio ball, ceramic ring), and chemical (activated carbon, zeolite stone). The use of various types of filter media affects water quality, growth and survival of fish. Using vegetables as additional filtration also affects water quality.

Abstract

The reservoir system has become one of the recognized methods for water management in tiger prawn cultivation (Penaeus monodon Fab.) to increase productivity and reduce the risk of disease. Research regarding the application of this system is growing along with the increasing need to maintain optimal water quality in ponds. This review article aims to review various studies that have been carried out regarding the influence of reservoir systems on the productivity of black tiger prawn cultivation in West Java, as well as identifying key factors that influence the success of these systems. Previous studies show that the use of reservoir systems can improve water quality through better circulation, waste filtering, and stabilization of the physical-chemical parameters of pond water. The results of several studies in various shrimp ponds in West Java show a significant increase in productivity, including increased growth rates, shrimp survival, and higher yields. Apart from that, the tank system has also proven effective in reducing the risk of diseases which are often the main obstacle in shrimp cultivation, such as white spot syndrome. However, there are several challenges in implementing reservoir systems, such as high initial investment costs and the need for better technical management. This article concludes that the reservoir system has great potential to be widely adopted in tiger prawn ponds, especially in the West Java area, as long as it is supported by adequate training and technological support. In addition, further research is needed to explore the long-term impacts and development potential of this system in a variety of different environmental conditions.

Abstract

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death, and breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women. One method to realize the level of malignancy of breast cancer from an early age is by classifying the cancer malignancy using data mining. One of the widely used data mining methods with a good level of accuracy is the Support Vector Machine (SVM) and K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN). Evaluation techniques of percentage split and cross-validation were used to evaluate and compare the SVM and KNN classification models. The result was that the accuracy level of the SVM classification method was better than the KNN classification method when using the cross-validation technique, which is 95,7081%. Meanwhile, the KNN classification method was better than the SVM classification method when using the percentage split technique, which is 95,4220%. From the comparison results, it can be seen that the KNN and SVM methods work well in the classification of breast cancer.

Abstract

Lung cancer is a condition where cells grow uncontrollably in the lungs due to carcinogens. Lung cancer is the first cause of death in men and women’s second cause of death. One way to reduce the death rate due to lung cancer is to carry out early detection, that is classification. The process of identifying and grouping objects with the same characteristics or characteristics into several predetermined classes is called classification. Several algorithms widely used in the classification process are Support Vector Machine (SVM) and K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN). SVM has advantages, being able to identify hyperplanes separately to maximize the margin between two or more different classes, but it is difficult to use in large data, while KNN can perform large-scale data separation and is resilient to noise in the data. This study aims to build a model using the SVM and KNN algorithms to classify lung cancer. The lung cancer dataset has a total of 309 data, where data is divided using the percentage split method and k-fold cross validation on each algorithm used. The parameters used in evaluating the model are accuracy, precision, and recall. From the research, the highest accuracy, precision, and recall values were obtained in the SVM algorithm with the percentage split method with consecutive values, namely 95.16%, 88%, and 82.5%. This indicates that the SVM algorithm with the percentage split method performs better in classifying lung cancer than other algorithms and methods,

Abstract

Abstract

The respiratory system of fish is particularly susceptible to parasitic infections and diseases that can cause significant histopathological changes. This article discusses the adaptation of fish's respiratory system to environmental stresses caused by parasites and pathogens, as well as the histopathological changes that occur in response to infection. Some of the major changes observed include hyperplasia, hypertrophy, necrosis, and edema of the tissues in the gills, which can affect the respiratory function of the fish. In addition, granuloma formation and increased mucus production were also noted as adaptive responses to parasitic infections. Although some histopathological changes can improve the fish's body defenses, the tissue damage that occurs as a result of chronic infections can lead to serious impaired respiratory function and decrease the survival of fish. Understanding the mechanisms of adaptation and histopathological changes is very important for fish health management, especially in aquaculture, in order to reduce the negative impact of diseases and increase fish productivity.

Abstract

Aquaculture has become an essential contributor to global food security, yet its rapid expansion presents significant challenges, including disease outbreaks, environmental degradation, and feed inefficiency. Biotechnology offers transformative solutions across the entire aquaculture value chain ranging from upstream breeding and health management to downstream processing and product safety. This review examines the strategic role of biotechnological innovations in enhancing sustainability, productivity, and resilience in aquaculture systems. Key upstream applications include selective breeding, marker-assisted selection (MAS), recombinant DNA vaccines, and probiotic-supplemented feeds, all of which have demonstrated substantial improvements in growth rates, feed conversion, and disease resistance. In midstream operations, molecular diagnostics (e.g., qPCR, LAMP) and enzyme-assisted processing technologies ensure product quality and safety. Downstream, innovations such as biosensor-based cold chain monitoring, value-added probiotic fish products, and DNA-based traceability cater to evolving consumer demands and regulatory standards. The integration of emerging tools—such as CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, RNA interference, metagenomics, and nanotechnology—further strengthens the aquaculture sector's capacity to adapt to climate stress and global market needs. Overall, this review highlights biotechnology as a pivotal enabler of sustainable intensification in aquaculture and underscores the need for policy support, technological accessibility, and interdisciplinary collaboration to realize its full potential.
