Abstract

This study aims to analyze the transformation of human resource (HR) management in the media industry, which is now dominated by Generation Z, a digital-native generation that brings new values, behaviors, and expectations to work systems. Amidst the acceleration of digitalization and the emergence of technologies such as the metaverse, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence, HR management in newsrooms is required to adapt not only technologically but also culturally. This study uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods, supported by in-depth interviews and observations with ten informants from the Gen Z group working in the digital media sector. The results show that Gen Z is not only an implementer but also an agent of change that drives a shift in work paradigms: from bureaucratic structures to collaborative systems, from administrative control to a values-based approach. Gen Z demands work flexibility, space for participation, and a management system that values diversity, transparency, and sustainability. By combining Kurt Lewin's Change Management theory with John Kotter's approach, this study finds that most media organizations are still in the "unfreeze" stage and have not yet optimally built work systems that are truly aligned with the characteristics of Gen Z. The transformations that have occurred so far tend to be technical and partial, not addressing comprehensive structural and cultural changes. This study recommends that media companies undertake a strategic reorientation of human resource management as a foundation for industry sustainability in the digital and metaverse era.

Abstract

Abit Godang and Parompa Sadun are important elements of the cultural heritage of the Batak Angkola community in Indonesia, embodying social values, identity, and customary meanings in everyday life. However, modernization, globalization, and changing lifestyles have led to a gradual shift in their meanings and practices, placing these traditions at risk of marginalization and potential extinction, particularly among younger generations. This study aims to examine efforts to revitalize the cultural meanings of Abit Godang and Parompa Sadun within the Batak Angkola community in Parsalakan Village, South Tapanuli Regency, Indone sia. This research employs a qualitative approach, with data collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and literature review involving traditional leaders, community members, educators, and youth representatives. The findings reveal that revitalization efforts can be effectively pursued through strengthening the role of Indigenous Peoples institutions, integrating cultural education into formal and informal learning processes, and encouraging active participation of the younger generation in cultural practices and ceremonies. In the context of education, the study highlights the importance of incorporating local cultural values into school curricula and community-based learning as a strategy for cultural transmission and identity formation. This educational approach not only enhances students’ cultural awareness but also fosters a sense of belonging and responsibility toward preserving local heritage. These strategies contribute to restoring the symbolic meaning and social relevance of Abit Godang and Parompa Sadun in contemporary society. The study concludes that sustained and education-based revitalization efforts are essential to ensure the continuity of Batak Angkola cultural identity in Indonesia and to preserve traditional values amid ongoing social change.
