Abstract

The use of technology in learning as a means that can improve the quality of learning itself. Nearpod is a platform that allows teachers to create and send interactive learning materials to students via digital devices. This platform provides various features, including slide-based presentations, interactive questionnaires, assignments, and even opportunities for students to participate directly via their devices. This research uses the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method and aims to analyze the effect of using the Nearpod platform on the level of student enthusiasm in class discussion at SMAN 2 Pangkep. Research was carried out through a series of cycles consisting of planning, implementation, observation and reflection stages. At the planning stage, the teacher designs a learning plan that includes the use of the Nearpod platform. The implementation stage involves implementing the learning plan involving class X students. Based on the results of this research, it can be concluded that the use of the attractive Nearpod platform has a positive impact on student participation in English class discussions. Students who engage in learning with the engaging Nearpod platform show a more active level of participation in discussions. They are more courageous in expressing opinions, asking questions, and discussing with classmates. The use of the Nearpod platform has proven itself to be an effective tool for increasing student enthusiasm in class discussions. From the results of the survey conducted, 28 out of 30 students agreed that using Nearpod had had a positive impact on their participation in discussions. Keywords— Nearpod, Classroom Discussion, Students enthusiasm.

Abstract

This study explores the implementation and challenges of hybrid learning in English for Business courses at a higher education institution. With the increasing integration of online and face-to-face learning modalities, hybrid education offers opportunities for flexible learning environments but also presents significant obstacles. The research employs a qualitative methodology, involving semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis, to gather insights from four lecturers who specialize in Business English education. Findings indicate that technological barriers, including poor internet connectivity and low digital literacy, particularly in remote areas, pose major challenges. Additionally, fostering student interaction and engagement in the online components of hybrid courses is difficult due to platform limitations and passive participation. Lecturers employ strategies such as group tasks and interactive quizzes to enhance engagement, but face-to-face interaction remains critical for developing communication skills. The study also reveals that students struggle with information management skills in the online context, and despite lecturer interventions, they require continuous support to improve their research abilities. Moreover, educators face challenges in balancing the needs of online and in-person students and adapting traditional assessment methods to the hybrid model. The study highlights the importance of training, institutional support, and strategic planning in overcoming these challenges and optimizing hybrid learning for business education

Low self-confidence is often a major barrier for students in developing their English speaking skills, especially in competitive situations. This community service article addresses the issue of low self-confidence among students that may hinder their English speaking ability. The aim of this community service activity is to enhance students' self-confidence and English speaking skills through training using the ELSA Speak app, creating digital posters with the help of Microsoft Copilot and Canva, and encouraging them to participate in an English competition. The method involves two stages: first, technology-based training through the ELSA Speak app to improve students' pronunciation and speaking fluency; second, creating digital posters to motivate students in conveying their ideas creatively and effectively using Microsoft Copilot and Canva. After the training and poster creation, students are encouraged to participate in English competitions as a platform to test and showcase their speaking skills. The activity was conducted at SMK Telkom Makassar, involving students from the English Meeting Club (EMC) extracurricular activity. Data were collected through surveys to assess students' self-confidence and speaking skills before and after the training, poster creation, and competition. Abstract

This study presents a comparative analysis of Indonesia's Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and the newly implemented Merdeka Curriculum, utilizing Richards' curriculum development theory as a theoretical framework. Through document analysis, teacher interviews, and classroom observations across multiple Indonesian schools, this research examines both curricula across six key dimensions: goals, content, pedagogy, assessment, flexibility, and teacher autonomy. Findings reveal that while CBC emphasizes standardized competencies and measurable outcomes, the Merdeka Curriculum offers greater flexibility, student-centered approaches, and enhanced teacher autonomy. The transition reflects Indonesia's educational reform agenda to address 21st-century learning needs while respecting local contexts. Richards' framework proves particularly valuable in identifying systematic strengths and weaknesses in both approaches. The Merdeka Curriculum demonstrates significant potential for fostering creativity and critical thinking but faces implementation challenges related to resource distribution and teacher readiness. This study offers insights for policymakers, curriculum developers, and educational practitioners navigating curriculum reforms in similar contexts.

Abstract

This study investigates Indonesian lecturers’ perceptions of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in translation education, focusing on how technology reshapes pedagogy, student engagement, and institutional practices. Employing a qualitative phenomenological design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with lecturers who actively integrated AI tools into translation teaching. Thematic analysis identified five major findings: perceived benefits of AI for efficiency and accessibility, pedagogical shifts and curriculum integration, challenges of student dependence and diminished critical thinking, ethical and responsible use of AI tools, and AI as a catalyst for institutional and administrative efficiency. While lecturers acknowledged AI’s transformative potential in facilitating translation tasks, they also highlighted risks of overreliance, ethical dilemmas, and uneven access. The study concludes that integration requires balancing technological affordances with humanistic values, fostering critical AI literacy, and embedding ethical considerations in pedagogy. These findings contribute to ongoing debates on AI-enhanced translation pedagogy in global higher education institutions.

Abstract

This pre-experimental study explores the effectiveness of integrating modified English songs in enhancing vocabulary retention among seventh-grade EFL learners in Indonesia. The research was conducted with 25 students at SMPN 3 Minasatene using a one-group pre-test–post-test design. The intervention consisted of five instructional sessions incorporating songs whose lyrics were deliberately adapted to match thematic vocabulary categories (objects, body parts, shapes, and vegetables). Each session combined listening, singing, contextual vocabulary practice, and short individual performances to reinforce lexical recall. Quantitative results revealed a significant improvement in learners’ vocabulary mastery, with the mean pre-test score (M = 69.64, SD = 5.95) increasing to the post-test mean (M = 89.12, SD = 6.31). The normalized gain (<g> = 0.64) indicates a high level of effectiveness based on Hake’s criteria. Qualitative observations further suggest that using modified songs enhanced learner motivation, enjoyment, and confidence in using English vocabulary. The findings demonstrate that purposeful integration of contextualized and culturally relevant songs can serve as an engaging medium for vocabulary development in early secondary EFL contexts. Pedagogical implications and recommendations for future experimental research designs are also discussed.
