Abstract

This research explores how English teachers at SMKN 10 Jeneponto identify student characteristics in the implementation of differentiated learning, which is aligned with the “Merdeka” curriculum. This research uses mixed methods that combine qualitative and quantitative research. In collecting data, the researchers conducted interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. Three English teachers participated as subjects in this research. The findings show that teachers use questionnaires administered by counseling teachers and follow-up interviews to detect students' learning styles, such as visual, auditory, or kinesthetic. From the results of the questionnaire analyzed by the researchers, it was found that 58.33% of students with visual learning style, 37.5% auditory, and 4.17% visual-auditory. After the questionnaire from the counseling teacher, the subject teachers also conducted follow-up interviews to find out more about students' learning styles and abilities. In identifying students' abilities, teachers also rely on observations during the learning process and targeted questions at the beginning of the lesson. This method allows teachers to adjust their instructional strategies to meet students' needs more effectively. The research concludes that combining interviews and questionnaires provides a comprehensive approach to understanding students' learning styles and abilities, which contributes to the successful implementation of differentiated learning. This approach increases student engagement, supports individual learning preferences, and ultimately improves learning outcomes.

Abstract

This research identifies the impacts of implementing the task-based method in teaching English writing at SMA Insan Cendekia Syech Yusuf. The study addresses a research question focusing on how implementing a task-based method in teaching English writing impacts students' writing skills. The study involved two English teachers and four SMA Insan Cendekia Syech Yusuf students. Data were collected through classroom observations, interviews with teachers and students, and written assignments. The findings reveal that the task-based method in teaching English writing is implemented through a structured task cycle involving pre-task, task, and post-task phases. Furthermore, the students reported positive impacts of task-based language teaching on their writing skills, particularly regarding organization, coherence, and critical thinking. However, the challenges related to language proficiency, task understanding, and time constraints were identified as barriers to full engagement. The emotional engagement varied among students, with some expressing frustration due to language limitations, while others thrived in the collaborative and problem-solving aspects of task-based language teaching. The study concludes that while the task-based method in teaching English writing shows significant potential for improving students' English writing skills, careful consideration must be given to task design, teacher support, and addressing student proficiency levels to maximize effectiveness. Future research should explore strategies for overcoming these challenges and enhancing student engagement in task-based language teaching in writing classes.

Abstract

This study explores the challenges and adaptive strategies employed by lecturers in implementing hybrid learning for English for Business (EfB) instruction within an Indonesian higher education context. Grounded in Connectivism, Sociocultural Theory, and Bloom’s revised taxonomy, the study employs a qualitative descriptive design involving semi-structured interviews with four experienced EfB lecturers, classroom observations, and document analysis. Thematic analysis revealed four interrelated domains: (1) disparities in access to technology and digital fluency, (2) limited interactional engagement in online settings, (3) underdeveloped information-management skills among students, and (4) lecturer readiness and workload concerns in hybrid environments. Findings indicate that infrastructural limitations and the digital divide significantly constrain equitable participation and pragmatic language use in hybrid classrooms. However, proactive instructional strategies such as the provision of offline materials, structured micro-tasks, and embedded digital literacy training can mitigate these challenges. The study underscores the centrality of technological, pedagogical, and institutional connectivity in shaping hybrid learning outcomes. It contributes to the growing body of HyFlex and ESP scholarship by offering context-rich insights from the Global South and provides implications for educators, institutional leaders, and policymakers seeking to design inclusive and resilient hybrid learning systems.

Abstract

Abstract. Many students feel less self-efficacy in their writing abilities, especially in producing writing that meets academic standards. Bad previous experiences often influence one's approach to writing academic assignments. As a result, students tend to feel anxious, demotivated, or even experience writer's block, which can delay their progress on the final research report. This study examines the impact of artificial intelligence tools on students’ self-efficacy in writing their final research report. This research employed a qualitative approach, utilizing interviews and documentation analysis involving six undergraduate students who completed their final research report using artificial intelligence tools. Findings suggest that utilizing artificial intelligence tools, such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, and DeepL, in the writing of the final research report can enhance students’ self-efficacy. The conclusion affirms that AI tools not only impacts the quality of the writing produced as the medium in the digital era and education, but also the internal processes that shape students' self-efficacy and behaviors in academic writing. Keywords: Self-Efficacy; Artificial Intelligence; Undergraduate Students; Influences; Final Research Report

Abstract

This research aims (1) to find out the activities carried out by English teachers using Platform Merdeka Mengajar at MAN Pinrang to improve their pedagogical competence, and (2) to explore the perception of English teachers in using Platform Merdeka Mengajar at MAN Pinrang to improve their pedagogical competence. In this study, the researcher used a descriptive qualitative method. Three teachers who use Platform Merdeka Mengajar were selected as participants. Data were collected through observations and interviews. The results showed that there are several activities carried out by teachers in using Platform Merdeka Mengajar, namely in terms of developing lesson plans, improving self-development, using technology in the teaching process, and utilizing Platform Merdeka Mengajar features such as teaching tools (modules, teacher manuals student books), inspirational video, and portfolio evidence. Teachers utilize these features to find references in designing lesson plans and to find inspiration and creative learning methods. The perceptions of teachers using Platform Merdeka Mengajar to improve their competence are that teachers can easily access the various features provided. The available features are also beneficial in improving their competence by providing various references, such as modules and various best practice videos that can be used to adjust learning methods. This finding improves English teachers’ pedagogical competence, especially in adjusting learning methods and finding references. In addition, several obstacles are experienced in using Platform Merdeka Mengajar, such as the account used to access the platform being deleted and experiencing network constraints that are sometimes less stable. This shows the importance of improving infrastructure and technical management to maximize and ensure that the platform’s potential can be fully utilized to improve teachers’ pedagogical competence.

Abstract

Kegiatan ini dilakukan selama tiga hari uji coba dengan tiga strategi utama: identity-based habit, set a clear time and place, dan use visual cues.
