This qualitative study investigates the influence of Instagram as an educational information communication platform on adolescents’ attitudes towards the Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking Prevention and Eradication Program (P4GN) at SMAN 4 Padang. Through in-depth interviews and thematic analysis, this study aims to explore the different ways in which adolescents interact with P4GN-related content on Instagram, interpret its messages, and see its impact on their attitudes towards drug abuse prevention. By focusing on qualitative research, this study seeks to capture the different ways in which adolescents interact with educational content on Instagram and how these interactions shape their attitudes towards P4GN. Initial findings indicate that adolescents perceive Instagram as a significant source of information about drug abuse prevention, which influences their attitudes and behaviors towards P4GN. The visual nature and peer-driven interactions play a significant role in shaping adolescents’ perceptions and attitudes towards drug abuse prevention efforts. This study provides valuable insights into understanding the effectiveness of Instagram as a tool to promote positive attitudes towards P4GN among adolescents. These findings will inform future educational strategies and interventions in drug abuse prevention, emphasizing the importance of leveraging social media platforms such as Instagram to engage and empower adolescents in promoting a drug-free society.

Organizational communication plays a crucial role in enhancing the performance of civil servants. This study aims to explore communication strategies at the Bureau of People's Welfare, Secretariat of the West Sumatra Provincial Government, and their impact on performance. The research employs a case study approach with interviews, observations, and document analysis. Results show that both formal and informal communication are essential for creating a productive work environment. However, challenges such as lack of openness and miscommunication persist. Recommendations include improving transparency and strengthening informal communication channels. The findings are expected to provide practical guidance for enhancing organizational communication strategies and overall performance of civil servants.

Legislation Committee of The House of Representatives of Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI) in a plenary meeting on April 6, 2022 ratified the Bill (RUU) on new autonomous regions (DOB) for provinces in Papua, namely Papua Selatan Province, Papua Tengah Province, and Papua Pegunungan Tengah Province. The decision was rejected by a number of parties by holding demonstrations against the new autonomous regions in various regions. When the demonstration was held in Jayapura on May 10, 2022, there was chaos between the protesters and the Indonesian National Armed Forces-Indonesian Police (TNI-Polri). During a conflict, the mass media were covering the conflict because it is considered to have high news value. But not all mass media are able to play a role in making conflict resolution or creating peace. This study aims to see how Okezone.com frames conflict in the protest against DOB using a qualitative approach with the Zhongdang Pan & Gerald M. Kosicki model framing analysis method that looks at the framing of syntactic, script, thematic and rhetorical structures. The analyzed datas are five news about the chaos, publish at the time occurred. The results show that Okezone.com has not implemented peace journalism and tends to apply war journalism. Okezone.com only highlights aspects of conflict behavior, accuse only one party, does not side with peace, rightness, society, and not into conflict solution. Abstrak Badan Legislasi Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Republik Indonesia (DPR RI) dalam rapat pleno pada 6 April 2022 mengesahkan Rancangan Undang-Undang (RUU) tentang daerah otonom baru (DOB) provinsi di Papua yakni Provinsi Papua Selatan, Provinsi Papua Tengah, dan Provinsi Papua Pegunungan Tengah. Keputusan tersebut kemudian mendapat penolakan dari sejumlah pihak dengan menggelar aksi unjuk rasa penolakan DOB di berbagai daerah. Saat unjuk rasa digelar di Jayapura pada 10 Mei 2022, terjadi kericuhan antara pengunjuk rasa dengan TNI-Polri. Ketika terjadi konflik, media massa hadir untuk melakukan liputan karena konflik dianggap memiliki nilai berita yang tinggi. Namun tidak semua media massa mampu berperan dalam membangun resolusi konflik atau menciptakan perdamaian. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat bagaimana Okezone.com membingkai konflik dalam unjuk rasa penolakan DOB menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode analisis framing model Zhongdang Pan & Gerald M. Kosicki yang melihat pembingkaian dari struktur sintaksis, skrip, tematik dan retoris. Data yang dianalisis adalah lima berita mengenai kericuhan yang terbit pada saat peristiwa terjadi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Okezone.com belum menerapkan jurnalisme damai dan cenderung menerapkan jurnalisme perang, karena dalam pemberitaan hanya menonjolkan aspek perilaku konfliknya saja, kemudian menempatkan hanya satu pihak yang bersalah. Serta tidak memiliki orientasi pada penyelesaian konflik, tidak berorentasi pada kebenaran dan kepada masyarakat.

This study examines the role of government communication in handling youth gang fights in Padang City, which has become a complex social problem due to a significant increase in cases (40 cases in 2022), the involvement of youth gangs, the escalation of armed violence, and the impact on the city's image as a center of education and tourism. Objective of this study is to explore the dynamics of communication among stakeholders in addressing youth gang violence in Padang City. The qualitative research method uses a phenomenological approach applied through in-depth interviews with 11 key informants (government officials, police, teachers, community leaders, parents, and gang members), observations, and analysis of policy documents and police data. The research findings reveal that: (1) The dynamics of communication among stakeholders are reactive, fragmented, and lack intensity, with coordination only becoming optimal post-incident; (2) The perspectives of youth indicate that involvement in fights is driven by environmental influences, peer pressure, curiosity, and identity-seeking, as well as a lack of understanding of risks; (3) Communication narratives focus on law enforcement (patrols, school sanctions) and preventive programs based on local wisdom (Barisan Dubalang), but are not yet integrated with psychosocial approaches; (4) Barriers to effectiveness include sectoral egoism, temporary communication (only during incidents), and weak synergy of sustainable programs. This study concludes that there is a need to transform the communication model to be collaborative, preventive, and based on the needs of adolescents, by utilizing digital technology and strengthening the role of families and traditional leaders as strategic partners.

The Indonesian film industry has experienced rapid development with the presence of various films that are not only entertaining, but also full of social values and messages. The film Onde Mande! is one of the films that highlights the richness of Minangkabau culture while containing social values in a light and entertaining narrative. This study aims to analyze the narrative structure and social values in the film Onde Mande! using the narrative theory approach of Tzvetan Todorov and Walter Fisher. Todorov's theory is used to analyze the storyline into three stages, namely balance, disturbance, and equilibrium. Meanwhile, Fisher's theory emphasizes the importance of meaning, narrative rationality (coherence and fidelity), and moral truths believed by the audience. The results of this study indicate that the narrative structure of the film Onde Mande! follows the pattern of initial balance, disturbance, and new balance. The narrative is delivered coherently, emotionally touching, and has a moral message. This film also depicts the social values of the Minangkabau people, such as mutual cooperation, responsibility, sincerity, deliberation, and devotion to family and culture. Thus, this film is not only entertainment, but also contributes to communication studies, especially in the narrative analysis of films based on Indonesian culture.

Pembangunan di sektor pertanian terus meningkat khususnya pada tanaman pangan menuju inovasi teknologi dalam membantu usaha petani dalam penggunaa inovasi traktor roda dua. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis jaringan komunikasi petani dalam penggunaan traktor roda dua di kabupaten Mandailing Natal. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif kuantitatif dengan menggunakan Stratified Random Sampling sebanyak 103 orang dari 5 kelompok tani dan teknik pengumpulan data melalui wawancara langsung dan dianalisis dengan analisis sosiometri, analisis jaringan komunikasi menggunakan aplikasi UCINET-8 dan SmartPLS. Hasil penelitian ini menjelaskan bahwa sosiogram aktor jaringan komunikasi petani desa Pidoli yang berperan sebagai Star dalam kelompoknya adalah aktor GM, AN, MK, KD, AM, MH, NS, dan SW, aktor-aktor tersebut merupakan Star dalam 5 kelompok tani yang dijadikan sebagai responden. Kelompok Tani di Desa Pidoli Dolok dan Lombang, selain berperan sebagai Star, mereka juga berperan sebagai Bridge dalam memberikan informasi kepada petani lain.

The production of animation is an important part of the economy in Indonesia. To support this, in 2017 AINAKI West Sumatra was formed as a liaison among the people in animation industry, which aims to improve the quality of the animation industry. Improving human resources (HR) is one of AINAKI's focuses. Therefore one of the programs implemented is to provide training facilities for prospective animators. However, of the many graduates from this training, the owners of the animation industry are still overwhelmed in finding qualified animators. Many animators cannot last a long career in the industry and choose another profession. This is what makes researchers feel interested in exploring the experiences and motives of the animators. The method used in this study is qualitative, while the approach is phenomenology. The results of the study show that not all of the animators have an artist's background. Knowledge about animation and creative skills is obtained through experience socializing with the environment such as the community, school teachers, campuses, internships, the internet, and also self-taught learning. Several subject decisions for a career in the animation industry are due to the high interest in animation, and animation is a unique discipline, as well as bright job prospects. The communication experience during a career is divided into 3, communication between employees, communication between employees and leaders, and communication between employees and clients. The motives for an animator's career include being in a well-known studio, finding passion, job prospects, growth mindset, wanting to produce their own animated works. The motives for career turnover in the animation industry include work-life balance, Animation is more complicated, personal characters easily get bored, communication in the work environment, incompetent leaders, and interest in moving to a different field. The meaning of being an animator includes, that animator is a profession that promotes creativity, a place to learn new skills, contributes to child-friendly shows, broad and promising career opportunities, and potential business fields.

Print media is increasingly less attractive to the public. The presence of digital or online media has made news no longer dominated by print and electronic media. Online media and social media have won the hearts of the public in presenting news. The presence of new media as progress in information and communication technology creates disruptions in the information sector. This research describes and analyzes the experiences of the editorial team of Haluan Daily and Singgalang Daily in the midst of information disruption. This research uses the concept of Edmund Husserl's Phenomenological Theory, where the experience of communication between sub-organizations, between individuals and groups within the editorial office of local daily newspapers, Harian Haluan and Harian Singgalang in Padang, West Sumatra, amidst information disruption. Data were obtained from interviews with informants, books, articles, and other related literature. The purpose of this research was to find out the communication experiences of the editorial work team of Haluan Daily and Singgalang Daily in the midst of information disruption and the meaning of information disruption. The method used in this research is qualitative. The results of the study obtained communication experience in the form of assignments, work team communication, work results and work comfort.

This research examines interpersonal communication based on intuition, bypassing institutional formalities, yet effectively fostering motivation and self-development in children from complex social backgrounds at the S3 Lintau Foster Home. Children with challenging backgrounds need supportive care and effective communication from family figures to build self-confidence, motivation, and growth. This study reveals that volunteers, through adaptive communication and intuition, successfully fulfill this needs. The research aims to analyze how volunteers' interpersonal communication processes contribute to motivating and developing foster children at the S3 Lintau Orphanage. Utilizing a qualitative case study approach, researchers apply Joseph DeVito’s interpersonal communication concepts alongside the Theory of Coordinated Management of Meaning (CMM) to deeply investigate communication flows. Findings highlight the significance of verbal and nonverbal communication that is personalized for each foster child. The process begins by building closeness, followed by supportive and empathetic message delivery, internalization of rules and values, encouragement of competent behavior, and ultimately fostering motivation and self-development. This progression relies heavily on reconstructing and coordinating meanings to establish shared understanding of the values, rules, and motivations imparted. The study demonstrates how volunteers, without formal authority, use intuitive and adaptive interpersonal communication to meet the emotional and developmental needs of foster children in a complex social context, effectively promoting their growth and motivation.
