Abstract

Abstract: The increasing number of prospective students participating in the special screening program at SD Muhammadiyah 3 Pandaan indicates the need for teachers to be prepared to implement inclusive education. Although the school has not yet been formally designated as an inclusive school, the dynamics of student diversity require a basic understanding and skills in conducting initial identification of students with special needs. This community service activity aims to improve teachers' capacity in understanding the concept of inclusive education and the skills to conduct initial screening systematically. The implementation method uses a psychoeducational approach and practice-based training with a pretest-posttest evaluation design. The activity was carried out in three stages, namely preparation (needs assessment and material preparation), implementation (material presentation, interactive discussion, and practice in using screening instruments), and evaluation. There were 26 teachers participating in the activity. The evaluation results showed an increase in posttest scores for all participants compared to the pretest, indicating an increase in teachers' conceptual understanding and readiness for implementation. In addition, there was a change in participants' perspectives regarding the function of screening as an initial identification step, rather than a clinical diagnosis. These findings indicate that psychoeducation and applied training are effective in strengthening teachers' capacity as a foundation for developing more inclusive and child-friendly schools.

Abstract

Toxic positivity is the tendency to maintain a positive mindset by suppressing negative emotions. This study aims to explore the phenomenon of toxic positivity among young adults in the context of individuals who have experienced a broken home, particularly those who practice it on themselves. This study employs a qualitative approach using a phenomenological method through in-depth interviews with two participants. The results indicate that toxic positivity emerges as an internal response to stress and problems, characterized by a tendency to suppress negative emotions, divert feelings, and force oneself to remain “fine” without deep emotional processing. The uniqueness of this study lies in its focus on individuals as perpetrators of self-directed toxic positivity.

Abstract

This study examines academic stress in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah students aged 10-12 years, a critical stage in children's psychological and academic development. The research employed a phenomenological approach to understand the experiences of two students dealing with a heavy academic workload. Data were collected through interviews and observations, focusing on emotional, cognitive, physiological, and behavioral aspects. The findings revealed that academic stress was caused by factors such as a large volume of tasks, pressure to perform, and lack of support and effective time management. This stress negatively impacted students' mental health, leading to anxiety, mood swings, sleep disturbances, and other physical symptoms. The study underscores the need for emotional support from teachers and parents, as well as the importance of balancing academic demands with recreational activities to promote psychological well-being.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between stress management, academic boredom, and academic achievement among students at a pesantren (Islamic boarding school) in Sidoarjo. Utilizing a quantitative correlational design, data were gathered from a sample of 200 students. Stress management was measured through coping strategies, while academic boredom was assessed using cognitive, affective, and motivational factors. Contrary to expectations, regression analysis revealed no significant relationship between stress management or academic boredom and academic achievement. These findings suggest that additional factors may play a role in students' academic success within a pesantren context, underscoring the need for further research.

Abstract

In Southeast Asia’s culturally and linguistically diverse learning environments, multilingual classrooms provide a unique platform for nurturing intercultural competence, sustaining student motivation, and supporting psychological adaptation. This conceptual paper explores the dynamic interplay among these three constructs, drawing upon Byram’s model of intercultural communicative competence, self-determination theory, and positive psychology perspectives. It analyzes how the cognitive, affective, and behavioral dimensions of intercultural competence influence both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, as well as students’ emotional well-being and adaptability in multilingual settings. Through an integrative review of existing research, the study develops a conceptual framework linking intercultural education and student psychology, aiming to promote a holistic understanding of learner development in multicultural contexts. The findings emphasize the importance of humanizing pedagogy, culturally responsive teaching, and socio-emotional support in enhancing motivation and psychological well-being. Finally, the paper offers practical implications for curriculum design, teacher training, and regional collaboration to foster inclusive and motivating multilingual learning environments across Southeast Asia.

Abstract

The problems of speaking mastery faced by EFL students in higher education are various. The frequency of making mistakes in completing specific tasks is because of poor communication skills. Students have minimum chances resulting lack of practice that affects their successful performance. Self-efficacy and emotional intelligence were determined to be two essential components to developing and improving learners speaking abilities. This study is purposed to investigate the correlation between self-efficacy, emotional intelligence, and the achievement of students English speaking. This study used a quantitative correlational design. The data are gathered by using a self-efficacy scale expanded from the General Self-Efficacy Skill (GSE), emotional intelligence was measured with the emotional intelligence scale adapted from the Emotional Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ), while the speaking achievement was administered to 100 students in public speaking class. The students performed a seven-minute speech and scored based on the content, proficiency, and delivery method. The data on self-efficacy and emotional intelligence were analyzed by using multiple correlations and multiple regressions. The finding shows a significant correlation between self-efficacy and students speaking achievement (F=9.510; p=0.0030.05), while the effect size of self-efficacy on students speaking achievement is 0.102 or 10,2 %. However, there is no correlation between emotional intelligence and speaking achievement (F=2.861; p=0.0940.05). Due to the absence of a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and speaking achievement then this makes the effect size of the emotional intelligence on speaking achievement very small which is 3.3%. Then, the best model to describe students achievement is by using self-efficacy variables and eliminating emotional intelligence variables (t=3.084; Sig. 0.0030.05). This study contributes to all speaking teachers being able to reveal the students self-efficacy and emotional intelligence toward learning speaking.
