Abstract

Students’ misconceptions about fraction concepts remain prevalent and significantly impact their mathematical understanding. The purpose of this study was to provide remediation to students who were identified as having misconceptions about fractions based on the results of a diagnostic pre-test using a five-tier instrument. Remediation of students' misconceptions was carried out through learning using conceptual change theory and scaffolding. To determine the impact of the intervention, a post-test diagnostic was conducted using the five-tier instrument. This study employed a mixed-methods approach through a convergent parallel design. The quantitative subjects consisted of 26 students, while the qualitative subjects comprised three students selected through purposive sampling. Qualitative data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that before remediation, the average scientific conception (correct answers) was low at 17.6%, and after remediation, it increased to 86.6%, representing an average increase of 69%. The findings indicate that integrating conceptual change theory with scaffolding is a promising strategy for addressing entrenched misconceptions in mathematics education.

Abstract

The low ability to think critically can affect the student's learning process. In overcoming the problem of critical thinking, teachers must first observe students' self-regulation. This quasi-experimental study aims to determine the effect of the CORE and PBL models on students' critical thinking skills based on self-regulation and interactions. The population is all 8th grade students of SMP N 1 Tungkal Ulu. Random sampling technique was used to choose class VIII B as experimental class 1 with 34 students, VIII D as experiment class 2 with 32 students, and VIII E as control class with 33 students. Data were collected using test questions. Statistical test using two-way ANOVA with SPSS software version 21 with a confidence level of 0.05. The results of the study based on hypothesis testing in the three classes obtained that Fcount was 18.693 while the value of Ftable was 4.00, meaning that Fcount was greater than Ftable. These results indicate that H1 is accepted (there are differences in critical thinking). It was concluded that CORE and PBL learning had an effect on improving students' critical thinking skills compared to traditional learning. However, there is no interaction between learning treatment and critical thinking skills.

Abstract

The prevalence of tuberculosis (TB) in Indonesia continues to increase every year, placing Indonesia second in the world in terms of the number of TB cases. Efforts by the government to control TB are still hampered, one of which is the difficulty of detecting suspected TB cases due to negative stigma that makes patients reluctant to disclose their condition. This is due to a lack of knowledge. This study aims to develop a website-based educational model, “KECAPI,” enabling household contacts of TB patients to conduct self-assessments of transmission risk anytime and anywhere. The study was a development research (Research and Development) using a mixed-method approach within the ADDIE framework. The study subjects include 3 individuals in a one-on-one test, 15 persons in a small group test, and 35 persons for the field test and a control group of 35 persons. User satisfaction with the educational model was assessed using the System Usability Scale, and knowledge improvement was analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test. The “KECAPI” educational model (Recognize-Record-Check) was developed based on the Health Belief Model, Trans Theoretical Model, and Technological Acceptance Model, and was proven to be effective, easy to use, and improved household contacts' knowledge about TB. This model presents animated videos, text, and images and can be accessed via the link https://s.id/kecapitb. It is hoped that this model can be utilized by health institutions to detect suspected of TB cases in the community, thereby increasing the case detection rate and ensuring prompt and appropriate treatment.
