Abstract

Background: Traditional medicine using herbal plants is one of the cultural assets of Indonesians. Belief in the efficacy of herbal plants as a definite treatment has been recognized for generations, especially among indigenous peoples. Purpose: This research aims to determine the role of a traditional school in bequeathing the culture of herbal medicine through health communication. Methods: This study employed a qualitative method. The data were collected using participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and guided group discussions. Results: The research results reveal six health communication methods to bequeath the culture of the use of herbal plants for health: 1) lecturing, 2) demonstrating, 3) hands-on practicing with assignments, 4) sharing, 5) role modeling, and 6) storytelling. The medical techniques of the indigenous people of Dangiang are categorized into three: 1) using the mind (medicine as communication media), 2) using herbal plants, and 3) using chemical drugs. The Dangiang community imposes special treatment to maintain public health, especially water use and waste disposal. Conclusion: Dangiang Traditional Village community is trying to preserve the traditional culture inherited from their ancestors, especially by using medicinal plants for health. Implications: This traditional school is expected to bring two final results: a) to bequeath traditional medicine culture, b) to preserve and maintain the local culture, and c) to inform the young generation about local customs and culture.

Abstract

Background: Pangandaran, situated within the province of West Java, is considered a region susceptible to natural disasters, leading to significant material damages and, unfortunately, loss of human life. This particular calamity has attracted the attention of various stakeholders, encompassing the local government, affiliated organizations, social communities, volunteers, and numerous others. The circumstances mentioned above have led to the development of participatory communication initiatives to promote cooperation in disaster management. Purpose: This study aims to ascertain the factors contributing to heteroglossia, discourse, polyphony, and collaboration among communities and volunteers. Methods: The research method utilized in this study is a descriptive study, incorporating a range of data collection techniques, including in-depth interviews, observation, and literature analysis. Furthermore, to conduct comprehensive data analysis, this study involves data reduction, data display, conclusion derivation, and verification. Moreover, the technique employed for data source identification involves systematically classifying stakeholders, including individuals affiliated with institutions and community members/volunteers who actively participate in collaborative efforts to address disaster-related issues in the Pangandaran Regency. Additionally, the study involved a cohort of five key informants deliberately chosen to represent the community under the study. Results: The study results indicate that, despite differences in tasks, responsibilities, roles, and level of expertise within the community or volunteers, they are willing to exchange knowledge, drawing on their viewpoints openly. Furthermore, the dialogue process that unfolds among the community/volunteers takes the form of a democratic discussion to attain consensus in their respective roles. Conclusion: Communities/volunteers have established collaborative efforts grounded in their understanding, awareness and commitment to assisting individuals affected by adverse circumstances. Moreover, shared norms and beliefs have guided their robust, extensive relationships and networks.

Abstract

The fire incident at the Pertamina Plumpang Integrated Terminal that occurred in March 2023 was a disaster that resulted in casualties and losses for residents around Plumpang. The coverage of the Plumpang incident had a direct impact on the company's image and reputation. This is where public relations communication strategies play a role in restoring public trust as a form of post-disaster handling. The author uses descriptive qualitative analysis by applying issue life circle analysis to examine the findings regarding case handling. The research results show that the handling of the Plumpang Integrated Terminal fire tragedy crisis was carried out by adopting policies based on the results of discussions between Pertamina, affected residents and stakeholders, such as the program for creating an Integrated Information Post, the Sire Emergency Response program and the Emergency Training program. Handling efforts are divided into three stages, namely shor term strategy, with responsive handling through the Pertamina Peduli program, medium term, by building an Integrated Information Post, and long term, by conducting level 2 emergency simulation training. Pertamina's public relations communication strategy in handling The Plumpang Integrated Terminal fire tragedy was carried out through personal communication by holding discussions with community leaders related to the Integrated Information Post. Personal communication is also carried out by approaching residents, using empathy strategies to provide two-way communication while knowing the facts on the ground, conducting blusukan related to needs, complaints and desires in the event of the Plumpang Integrated Terminal fire tragedy.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis strategi media relations yang diterapkan oleh Bidang Hubungan Masyarakat (Bidhumas) Polda Metro Jaya dalam upaya meningkatkan citra positif institusi kepolisian di mata masyarakat, khususnya dalam menangani kasus penyalahgunaan narkoba oleh anggota Polda Metro Jaya sendiri. Pendekatan penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif, dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui wawancara mendalam dan observasi langsung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Bidhumas Polda Metro Jaya melakukan serangkaian langkah strategis dalam mengelola hubungan dengan media massa, termasuk menjalin komunikasi yang intensif dan berkelanjutan dengan jurnalis, mengadakan konferensi pers, serta menyebarkan informasi melalui berbagai platform media, baik cetak maupun elektronik. Strategi ini bertujuan untuk memastikan transparansi informasi dan membangun kepercayaan publik terhadap institusi kepolisian. Selain itu, Bidhumas juga aktif dalam mengelola opini publik dengan memberikan respons cepat terhadap isu-isu negatif yang berpotensi merusak citra kepolisian. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah bahwa strategi media relations yang efektif dapat membantu Polda Metro Jaya dalam membangun dan mempertahankan citra positif di mata masyarakat, meskipun dihadapkan pada tantangan kasus internal yang sensitif seperti penyalahgunaan narkoba oleh anggotanya. Saran dari penelitian ini adalah pentingnya peningkatan pelatihan bagi personel Bidhumas untuk meningkatkan keterampilan komunikasi media serta memperluas jangkauan media sosial untuk menjangkau lebih banyak audiens. Kata Kunci: Media Relations, Citra Positif, Penyalahgunaan Narkoba, Polda Metro Jaya, Strategi Komunikasi.

Abstract

General Background: Food waste is a pressing global issue, with significant environmental and social implications. Effective communication strategies are essential for raising awareness and driving action in food rescue initiatives. Specific Background: Food Bank Bandung utilizes data-driven storytelling on Instagram to address food waste, employing techniques such as narrative communication, data explanation, and structured content presentation. While these methods enhance audience engagement by merging emotional narratives with empirical data, challenges remain in ensuring data transparency and fostering long-term audience engagement. Knowledge Gap: Despite the apparent effectiveness of data-driven storytelling, limited research exists on its application in the context of food rescue initiatives, particularly regarding audience comprehension and the consistency of data updates. Aims: This study aims to provide an in-depth evaluation of the strategies employed by Food Bank Bandung in their data-driven storytelling efforts on Instagram, focusing on how these strategies shape impactful narratives for local audiences. Results: Through qualitative descriptive methods, including in-depth interviews with operational teams and content analysis of Instagram publications, the study reveals that Food Bank Bandung effectively enhances public awareness and trust by transparently presenting operational data on food rescue activities. However, challenges such as inconsistent data updates and audience misunderstanding of data remain. Novelty: This research contributes to the field of communication studies by elucidating the specific strategies used in data-driven storytelling for food rescue, highlighting the intersection of narrative engagement and data transparency. Implications: The findings underscore the need for improved data presentation techniques and regular updates to enhance audience comprehension, ultimately advancing the effectiveness of food rescue campaigns in urban settings.

Abstract

The study is titled implementation of environmental communication based on the social institution in coping with the flood in the Citarum Watershed Upstream. Citarum river pollution and silting are currently in a state of particular caused by forest encroachment in the upstream, land use, household waste, animal husbandry, industry, offices, etc, so when the rainy season caused the occurrence of floods. In addition, these conditions have resulted in water quality being unfit to be utilized, both for drinking water, washing, bathing, irrigation for agriculture and so on. The actuator environment seeks to restore the Citarum Watershed upstream conditions by building public awareness so they may want to change their attitudes and behavior, one of them by not disposing of waste into the river. The selected communities are those that are incorporated in a social institution in the region. The purpose of the research is to find out about the types of institution, the reason for utilizing the institution, and the role of the environment actuator communication in a social institution. The methods used in this research is descriptive with qualitative data to describe the various realities of communication activities related to the environment by leveraging social institution in coping with the disaster of the flood in the area of Citarum Watershed Upstream. Research results showed in the region there are four types of institutions, namely the institution of religious, economic, agricultural and social. Institution related to religious activity is Majlis Ta'lim (the place of informal Islamic teaching and education), institution related to the activity of the economy is an arisan (regular social gathering), institution related to social activity is the PKK (Family Welfare Guidance), and institution related to the agricultural activity is The Association of Farmers Group (Gapoktan). The reason for the environment actuator utilizing social institution are as the entrance (access) to carry out flood mitigation program, already familiar, easy to invited to cooperate and to expand the network. The role of the environment actuator in the institution as a communicator and facilitator in conducting dissemination of information and training of waste utilization to the members of the institutions.

Abstract

Kampung Lembur Sawah berlokasi di tengah Kota Bogor dan kaya akan potensi wisata gastronomi. Pengembangan berkelanjutan berbasis masyarakat lokal diperlukan untuk melengkapi atraksi wisata dan meningkatkan pengalaman wisatawan. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi potensi wisata gastronomi dan pengembangannya berdasarkan sudut pandang masyarakat lokal yang tergabung dalam Kompepar Mulyaharja sebagai pengelola. Metode dalam penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif eksploratif. Data primer diperoleh melalui observasi langsung serta wawancara dengan informan yang mewakili para pemangku kepentingan terkait pengelolaan wisata di Kampung Lembur Sawah. Data sekunder diperoleh melalui dokumen desa, artikel jurnal, dan laporan kerja terkait pengembangan wisata di Kampung Lembur Sawah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Kampung Lembur Sawah memiliki potensi yang dapat dikembangkan menjadi atraksi wisata gastronomi. Inventori gastronomi harus dilakukan pendaftaran HAKI sebagai upaya pelestarian. Kata kunci: wisata gastronomi, pariwisata berbasis masyarakat, Kampung Lembur Sawah

Abstract

The growth of mobile devices and social media has greatly affected the tourism business, as well as hospitality and cross-cultural relations. This research studies the use of social media in transforming the tourism practices in Pangandaran focusing on ecotourism and river rafting in Citumang. Using the qualitative method, data were established by purposive sampling of three informants: tourism managers, tour guides and tourists. Through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and social media posting and promotional materials documentation opened broad perspectives. The research results suggest that social media such as Instagram and Facebook are effective in marketing the Pangandaran’s ecotourism products. There are tour guides such as Kang Wahyu who use the site to tell a story in cultures and interact with tourists at the same time to enhance their experience and integration of cultures. However, limitations in these technologies’ full potential include poor internet coverage and low levels of digital skills among the local tourism providers. In conclusion, the results of the study indicate that combining social media with better digital infrastructure and participation of the community could improve the social and environmental aspects of ecological tourism.

Abstract

Background: Social and Environmental Responsibility (SER) represents the company’s commitment to supporting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). PT. Pos Indonesia Regional 3 West Java carried out social and environmental responsibilities under its policies. The SER program was established in collaboration with Universitas Padjadjaran through a farmer group empowerment program toward independent villages and food security in Cilembu Village, Pamulihan District, Sumedang Regency. Purpose: This research aimed to analyze SER communications by PT. Pos Indonesia Regional 3 West Java. Methods: It used a descriptive method. The data was collected through observation, interviews, and literature studies. Results: The results showed that the public relations department of PT. Pos Indonesia served as a communication facilitator in corporate social responsibility implementation through the farmer group empowerment program towards independent villages in Cilembu Pamulihan, Sumedang. Upon carrying out the SER activities, PT. Pos Indonesia held stages of situation recognition, collaboration, and collective action between stakeholders to produce an effective SER program. Conclusion: SER communication at PT. Pos Indonesia Regional 3 West Java consisted of internal communication, a report to company leaders and employees, and external communication for publicizing the company’s achievements. Implications: The success of social and environmental responsibility communication will depend on the role of public relations in a corporation.

Abstract

Sekitar 30-an wirausaha wanita yang tergabung di Kelompok Wanita Tani (KWT) Desa Cilembu Kabupaten Sumedang mengikuti pelatihan pemasaran online dan kemasan produk. Selama ini, hasil pokok produk desa Cilembu yang dikenal dengan Ubi Jalar nya masih dipasarkan secara konvensional, yaitu melalui menjajakan produk Ubi Cilembu di etalase-etalase toko kelontongan di sepanjang jalan raya Bandung-Sumedang. Melalui penjualan yang masih konvensional tersebut akibatnya produk Ubi Cilembu “masih” belum menjadi komoditi yang bernilai prestise. Hal ini menjadi peluang bagi PT. Pos Indonesia yang bekerjasama dengan Tim Pengabdian Pada Masyarakat Universitas Padjadjaran menyelenggarakan pelatihan yang bermanfaat bagi upaya meningkatkan kapasitas masyarakat dalam hal pemasaran produk Ubi Cilembu Sumedang. Metode yang disampaikan dalam pelatihan ini dengan cara pemaparan materi, diskusi, dan simulasi praktek pembuatan platform pemasaran digital serta kemasan produk. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa Kelompok Wanita Tani sangat berantusias mengikuti pelatihan ini dengan secara seksama dalam menghadapi kemajuan zaman dan perkembangan media digital. Simpulan kegiatan pelatihan ini yaitu masyarakat kelompok wanita tani desa Cilembu Sumedang memiliki pengetahuan mengenai tata cara memilih dan sekaligus menggunakan platform digital yang mendukung terhadap aspek penjualan produk Ubi Cilembu sekaligus tertarik untuk mewujudkan kemasan produk yang mudah dikenali masyarakat luas tentang jenis olahan makanan dari Ubi Cilembu.
