Abstract

Chemical literacy has become an important issue to be discussed, making students aware of the benefits of literacy, becoming the main goal for educators, scientists, and curriculum policy makers. Chemical literacy is important for students because it equips students to make decisions, makes students more critical, creative, and helps them in solving everyday problems or natural phenomena based on their knowledge. This study aims to describe the chemical literacy abilities of students on hydrocarbon materials with the topic of discourse on the case of toxic compounds in fried foods. This research includes quantitative descriptive research. The population in this study were all students of class 11st at a public high school in Magelang City who had studied hydrocarbons. The number of samples from this study was 100 students taken from three classes. The data collection technique in this research is a questionnaire. The data research instrument used was a student questionnaire sheet which was a closed questionnaire with four choices, namely SD (Strongly Disagree), D (Disagree), A (Agree), and SA (Strongly Agree). The results of the research that has been done can be seen that the chemical literacy ability of students on hydrocarbon materials is 63.1875%. These results indicate that the chemical literacy ability of students on chemical hydrocarbons is fair. The results of the research that has been done can be seen that the chemical literacy ability of students on hydrocarbon materials is 63.1875%. These results indicate that the chemical literacy ability of students on chemical hydrocarbons in fair catagory.

Abstract

This literature review aims to determine 1) forms of Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) are applied to teach Science Process Skill (SPS), 2) forms of IBL implemented to teach specific SPS, and 3) the level of inquiry used in IBL. Based on these objectives, a literature review was carried out consisting of seven stages starting from determining the study questions, determining data sources, searching for articles from the database, selecting based on keywords, and determining which articles will be reviewed according to the criteria and whether there are answers to the study questions in the articles. There are 54 articles were obtained from this process which were then reviewed with the aid of the Atlasti.9 application. Several strategies can be used to carry out IBL, including POGIL, ADI, PCOI, and DOEI. These Various learning strategies are needed to support the attainment of SPS. IBL is implemented at various levels. Based on the review, it can be concluded that it prefers to use guided rather than free IBL, especially for students with new experience on inquiry.

Abstract

This research implements the Garden Resources, Education, and Environment Nexus (GREEN) Model as an innovative learning strategy to enhance the sustainable understanding of biodiversity concepts through Project-Based Learning (PjBL) Science and Social Science (IPAS) subject in schools. This PjBL model aims to integrate the GREEN Model into PjBL IPAS to enhance students' understanding of biodiversity concepts at the Indonesian School in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. The research employs an experimental method with a ODGE using PjBL in IPAS subjects, the sample 34 students 10th. Research instruments and data collected included a 14-item short-answer pretest-posttest, a 8-item Likert Scale questionnaires, and interview guidelines and analyzed using descriptive statistical methods. The research results indicate that the implementation of the integrated GREEN Model in PjBL IPAS can improve students' understanding of biodiversity concepts, increasing the average score from 64.85 to 83.41 with a sig (2- tailed = 0.034) < (0.05). Based on statistical analysis, the integrated GREEN Model with PiBL in subject IPAS significantly enhance students' understanding concepts of biodiversity knowledge. According to the survey and interview data processing, most students also responded positively to the learning process, finding the GREEN Model engaging and easy to understand when integrated with PjBL IPAS.

Abstract

Learning resources that are often used in learning only use limited print media and do not attract students' motivation, scientific attitude, and learning independence. For this reason, the right learning media is needed to improve it through electronic student worksheet media. This study aims to produce electronic student worksheet based on Problem-based Learning (PBL) on electrochemical material that is suitable for use in learning chemistry, determine characteristics, analyze practicality based on the assessment of high school chemistry teachers, and analyze responses and readability based on the assessment of high school students. This research used the Research and Development (R&D) research method with the 4D development model. The electronic student worksheet contains 4 learning activities and is equipped with pictures, audio, video, and declared feasible by chemistry learning experts. The results of the practicality test assessment by chemistry teachers obtained an average score of 94.4 out of a maximum score of 105 and an ideal percentage of 89.90% which is included in the ‘Very Good’ category. The results of the response test assessment and readability by students obtained an average score of 52.2 from a maximum score of 60, an ideal percentage of 87.50% which is included in the ‘Very Good’ category

Abstract

This article examines how in an educational setting communication skills can enhance critical thinking abilities through guided inquiry. Human resources (HR) must be improved in light of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, but obstacles to learning include low student engagement, a lack of enthusiasm, and a lack of critical thinking abilities. Although communication skills are frequently a barrier, guided inquiry is recognized as a learning model capable of advancing students' critical thinking abilities. The activity steps in guided inquiry are covered in this article, along with pertinent communication skills such as explanation of delivery, material mastery, group interaction, and responding. It is highlighted how critical thinking abilities and communication skills are linked in 21st-century learning. It is widely acknowledged that effective verbal, written, and listening communication skills are essential for guided inquiry. Source triangulation was employed as a qualitative research method with a post-positivism approach to gather data. The article emphasizes how communication skills help students develop their critical thinking abilities by enabling them to assess and connect information to a wider context in addition to gathering and analyzing it. Abstract

This study seeks to ascertain whether there are notable disparities in cognitive learning outcomes and scientific attitudes among high school students in both the experimental and control groups regarding thermochemical topics. Additionally, it aims to outline the cognitive learning outcomes profile in the experimental group and evaluate the scientific attitude profile of students in the same group concerning thermochemical concepts. This research is using quantitative research method. The population in this study were five high schools in Sleman Regency, Ngaglik Region. The sample used was SMA 2 Ngaglik in class XI Science. The research employed both non-test methods, such as questionnaires, and test-based approaches, using multiple-choice questions, for data collection. Non-parametric analysis was utilized for data analysis. The findings indicated that there were no significant variances in cognitive learning achievements and scientific attitudes among high school students in both the experimental and control groups regarding thermochemical topics. Moreover, the learning outcomes profile in classes implementing the Problem Based Learning model and scientific approach was rated as very good, while the scientific attitude profile in these classes was deemed adequate across all aspects

Abstract

A component of the learning process, attitude reflects the development and comprehension of the attitudes of individual students. The cultivation of scientific attitudes among students remains a relatively unacknowledged educational objective. The objectives of this study are as follows: (1) developing the framework of a scientific attitude assessment instrument intended for high school chemistry lesson; and (2) establishing the reliability and validity of the developed scientific attitude assessment instrument. This study performs instrument development research in the affective domain in accordance with Gable & Wolf's (1993) research procedures. The participants in this study comprised a sample of 250 high school students. The Result of this research is the Honesty factor is the most influential in this instrument; cooperation, on the other hand, has the weakest loading factor value at 0.881. The SEM model as a whole has good capabilities in terms of matching sample data (Good Fit).

Abstract

The industrial revolution 4.0 has a significant impact on chemistry learning. Learning chemistry leads students to have problem-solving thinking skills in learning. There are many studies on STEM-integrated discovery learning models, but no overall effect size has been found from previous studies. This study aims to determine the effect of the size of the STEM-integrated discovery learning model on students' problem-solving skills. This type of research is quantitative research with a meta-analysis approach. The samples came from analyses of national and international journals. Inclusion criteria are publications derived from journals or proceedings indexed by SINTA and Scopus, experimental or quasi-experimental method research, research published in 2021-2024, research must be relevant, data search through google scholar, Springer, Hindawi, ScienceDirect and ERIC databases and Researchgate, research must have complete data to calculate effect size, and a sample size of ≥ 20 students. data analysis through JASP application. The results of the study concluded from the analysis of 19 heterogeneous and normally distributed journals explained the significant effect of the STEM-integrated discovery learning model on students' problem-solving skills (p < 0.001; rRE = 0.940) with high criteria

Abstract

Many studies on ethnoscience-based problem-based learning models have an impact on students' thinking skills. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of ethnoscience-based problem-based learning to improve students' creative thinking skills in chemistry learning. This study used a meta-analysis method. Data in the study was obtained through the databases ERIC, Reseearcgate, ScienceDirect and google scholar. The criteria for data eligibility are 1) publications must be indexed by SINTA, Scopus and Google Scholar, 2) research related to ethnoscience-based problem-based learning models, 3) research published in 2018-2023, and 4) research must have complete data to calculate the value of effect size. Statistical analysis with the help of JASP application version 0.8.5. The results of the effect size analysis of the study with the random effect model showed a significant influence of ethnoscience-based problem-based learning models to improve students' creative thinking skills (z = 7,189; p < 0.001; 95% CI [0.816; 1.345]). Furthermore, the influence of ethnoscience-based problem-based learning models on creative thinking skills in strong criteria (rRE = 0.944). This research provides important information for applying ethnoscience-based problem-based learning models in schools

Abstract

The industrial revolution 4.0 has a positive influence on students' critical thinking skills through the discovery learning model. However, whether the discovery learning model based on local wisdom can improve students' critical thinking skills in chemistry learning that does not yet have a uniform conclusion. This study aims to determine whether the discovery learning model based on local wisdom can improve students' critical thinking skills in chemistry learning. This type of research is a meta-analysis. Data was collected through ScienceDirect, Speinger Journal, Researchgate, Mendeley and ERIC. The data entered must meet the eligibility criteria, namely Research must be experimental or quasi-experimental, research comes from SINTA and Scopus indexed journals, Research related to discovery learning models based on local wisdom on students' critical thinking skills in chemistry learning, Research published in 2020-2024, research has complete data to calculate effect size values, and sample size (N) ≥ 25 students. Statistical analysis with the help of JASP. The results of the analysis of 24 studies explained From this meta-analysis research, it can be concluded that there is a significant influence of discovery learing models based on local wisdom on students' critical thinking skills (z = 11.44; p < 0.001). This effect is included in the very high criterion (rRE = 1.291). These findings explain that the discovery learning model based on local wisdom is effective in improving students' critical thinking skills in science learning with a CI of 95% ([1.06; 1.51).
