Abstract

Empathy is one of the key social-emotional skills during adolescence that plays a role in building interpersonal relationships and prosocial behaviour. However, empathy is not a single skill, but rather comprises several dimensions that may develop differently. This study aims to describe the empathy profiles of lower secondary school pupils in Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, based on Davis’s multidimensional approach using the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI) instrument. This study employed a descriptive quantitative approach, involving 164 lower secondary school pupils who completed the 45-item version of the IRI. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics to obtain an overview of the total empathy scores and those of its four dimensions, namely Perspective Taking, Fantasy, Empathic Concern, and Personal Distress. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kategori empati sedang merupakan kategori yang paling dominan (48,2%), diikuti kategori rendah (37,2%) dan tinggi (14,6%). Multidimensional analysis revealed variations across the four dimensions of empathy—namely, Perspective Taking, Fantasy, Empathic Concern and Personal Distress—suggesting that the development of students’ empathy does not proceed uniformly across all its components. The Perspective-Taking dimension falls into the ‘moderate’ category. Empathy is in the ‘low’ category, Empathic Concern is in the ‘low’ category, whilst Personal Distress is in the ‘moderate’ category. These findings suggest that pupils’ empathy profiles need to be understood not only on the basis of their overall empathy scores, but also through the differences in the development of the cognitive and affective components that shape empathic responses.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan instrumen kemandirian bagi konseli disabilitas penglihatan, yang merupakan aspek penting dalam meningkatkan kualitas hidup mereka. Kemandirian tidak hanya mencakup kemampuan fisik, tetapi juga aspek emosional, perilaku, dan nilai. Penyandang disabilitas penglihatan menghadapi tantangan unik yang mempengaruhi kemandirian, seperti keterbatasan akses informasi dan hambatan mobilitas. Oleh karena itu, instrumen yang valid diperlukan untuk mengukur tingkat kemandirian penyandang disabilitas penglihatan secara akurat. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan Research and Development (R&D) dengan model pengembangan yang disederhanakan dari Borg dan Gall. Proses pengembangan meliputi studi literatur, penyusunan instrumen, validasi oleh ahli, dan revisi berdasarkan masukan. Tiga aspek kemandirian yang diukur adalah kemandirian emosi, perilaku, dan nilai. Validitas isi instrumen diuji menggunakan Aiken’s V, dengan hasil menunjukkan nilai yang baik, berkisar antara 0,667 hingga 1,000. Hasil penelitian secara umum dapat digunakan untuk mengukur tingkat kemandirian disabilitas penglihatan. Secara khusus, hasil dari pengembangan instrumen ini juga diharapkan mampu menjadi alat ukur asesmen bagi konselor supaya lebih efektif dalam memberikan layanan bimbingan dan konseling, serta membantu konseli mencapai kemandirian yang lebih baik dalam kehidupan sehari-hari.

Abstract

Academic burnout is a pressing issue that negatively affects senior high school students, yet conventional counseling services often rely on monotonous, static media that fail to engage today's digital generation. To address this urgent gap, this research aimed to develop an interactive digital Flipbook as a preventive intervention. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, consisting of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. Product validation was conducted by media experts and subject-matter experts, while the practicality test involved two Guidance and Counseling teachers. The effectiveness test was carried out through an experimental study involving 69 students from SMA Negeri 1 Pakem and SMA Negeri 1 Depok using an academic burnout scale. Data were analyzed descriptively and statistically using SPSS. The findings showed that the Flipbook media was categorized as highly feasible by both media and subject-matter experts, obtaining a validity score of 1.00. The media was also considered highly practical by Guidance and Counseling teachers, with an average score of 3.37 (84.17%). Furthermore, the effectiveness test revealed a significant difference between students’ conditions before and after the implementation of the service, with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05 and a t-value of 18.578. These findings indicate that the developed Flipbook media is valid, practical, and effective in supporting guidance and counseling services to prevent academic burnout among students.
