Abstract

Digital transformation in education does not merely introduce new tools or media, but demands a fundamental paradigm shift in teaching approaches, including in history education, which has traditionally been associated with lectures and rote memorization. Responding to this dynamic, the present study aims to explore how the implementation of a Learning Management System (LMS), specifically Microsoft Teams, has transformed the strategy of history teaching at SMA Negeri 1 Lumajang from conventional face-to-face methods to a more adaptive and participatory digital learning model. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation to portray the process and impact of LMS usage comprehensively. The findings reveal that Microsoft Teams functions not only as a technical support tool, but also as a learning environment that strengthens the teacher’s role as an active facilitator while encouraging students to become independent and digitally literate learners. The LMS enhances learning engagement through features such as discussion channels, digital assignments, and organized access to instructional materials. Interestingly, even after the return to face-to-face learning, many teachers continue to utilize the LMS to support a more structured and flexible hybrid learning model. Nevertheless, challenges such as limited access to devices, connectivity gaps, and varying levels of digital competence remain obstacles that require resolution through ongoing training, infrastructure support, and consistent institutional policies. This study concludes that the LMS is not merely a reactive solution to crisis conditions, but has become a pedagogical foundation for building sustainable, contextual, and future-oriented history learning practices in line with 21st-century educational demands.

Abstract

The use of museums as a medium for evaluating history learning plays a strategic role in improving the quality of the learning process while sharpening students' critical thinking skills. This study aims to evaluate history learning at the Learning Museum of Universitas Negeri Malang (UM), focusing on optimizing the museum’s role in supporting students' critical thinking abilities. A qualitative approach with a participatory design was employed, involving museum administrators, lecturers, and history students as key participants. Primary data were collected through participant observation and in-depth interviews, while secondary data were obtained from literature studies, documentation, and museum archives. Data analysis was conducted thematically through the stages of data reduction, display, and verification to ensure the validity of the findings. The results indicate that the application of a participatory approach in history learning at the museum significantly enhances student engagement, strengthens critical and reflective thinking skills, and fosters a deeper understanding of historical material. Students not only function as recipients of information but also actively engage in discussing historical contexts and reflecting on the relevance of historical values in contemporary life. Furthermore, the museum has proven to be an effective medium for authentic, contextual, and enjoyable learning evaluation, capable of bridging the gap between theory and practice. This study contributes to the literature on museums as a medium for participatory learning and critical thinking in history education. The findings also provide practical recommendations for museum administrators and educators in designing innovative history learning programs. More broadly, this research may serve as a reference for developing museum-based history learning strategies in Indonesia and at the international level.

Abstract

Evaluation is a systematic process of collecting and analyzing information to assess the quality of a program or product. This study aims to evaluate the quality of multiple-choice questions on the Japanese Occupation and Indonesian Independence topic through analysis of difficulty level and discriminating power. The main problem in this study was the lack of an evaluation instrument capable of accurately measuring learning outcomes and proportionally differentiating student abilities. The method used was quantitative, with sample answer sheets of 11th-grade students who completed 20 multiple-choice questions and 5 essay questions. Difficulty level analysis was conducted to determine the extent to which students could answer the questions, while discriminatory power was used to assess the ability of the questions to differentiate between high-ability and low-ability students. The results showed that 90% of the multiple-choice questions were classified as easy, while the essay questions had a more even distribution of difficulty levels. In terms of discriminatory power, some questions showed a fair to good category, but some had low or even negative discrimination power. These findings emphasize the need for revision of several questions to improve the validity and effectiveness of the instrument. Periodic evaluation of question quality is crucial to ensure assessments that support the quality of history learning.
