Abstract

Halal tourism has become a rapidly growing sector of the global economy, driven by the increasing population of shariah-conscious Muslims and the demand for travel experiences that are in line with Islamic values. However, this growth demands a robust framework that not only ensures shariah compliance at the transactional level (fiqh muamalah maliyah), but also promotes social justice, environmental sustainability, and long-term economic resilience. This article presents a new paradigm that deeply integrates maqashid shariah (the highest objectives of shariah) with sustainable business models in the halal tourism ecosystem. Using a critical literature analysis approach and conceptual study, this article examines how the core principles of Islamic jurisprudence such as the prohibition of riba, gharar (uncertainty), maysir (gambling), justice ('adl), transparency, and social responsibility (maslahah) can serve as the foundation for building an authentic and sustainable halal tourism business model. The article argues that the integration of maqasid shariah (especially the protection of religion (hifz al-din), life (hifz al-nafs), intellect (hifz al-'aql), progeny (hifz al-nasl), and property (hifz al-mal)) not only strengthens shariah compliance but also creates significant added value through increased brand trust, consumer loyalty, better risk management, responsible innovation, and contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Case studies and best practices from various destinations are illustrated to demonstrate the practical application of this paradigm. This article concludes that the holistic integration of fiqh muamalah maliyah, maqashid shariah, and sustainable business principles is essential not only for the religious legitimacy of halal tourism, but also for its competitive sustainability and meaningful contribution to the well-being of humanity and the planet.

Abstract

Zakat campaigns in Indonesia have utilized social media as a platform to address various zakat management problems. This research examines the message strategies used by zakat institutions in their campaigns on social media. Messages are an important component in the success of a campaign to influence the voluntary behavior of campaign targets. The message strategy theory applied in this study refers to Tafesse and Wien, including informational, transformational, and interactional messages. This research uses a quantitative approach, employing muzakki zakat in Dompet Dhuafa Waspada, North Sumatra, as the respondents. Data analysis technique used the SEM-PLS approach with SmartPLS 4.0 software. The research results show that the informational and transformational variables had a significant effect on the decision to pay zakat. Meanwhile, the interactional variables had no significant effect on the decision to pay zakat. Therefore, the role of message strategy in zakat campaigns on social media is important to increase zakat fundraising.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the institutional challenges and direction of reform within the Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI) in managing national waqf. Although Indonesia has enormous waqf potential, with over 414,000 hectares of waqf land and approximately 420,000 nazhirs (Islamic trustees), the reality is that only about 10% of these assets have been managed productively. This study uses a qualitative approach with library research through analysis of academic literature, policy documents, and official reports from related institutions. The results indicate that the main problems lie in weak coordination between the central and regional BWI, limited human resource capacity, a lack of transparency and accountability, and low literacy and public trust in waqf management institutions. Furthermore, the implementation of waqf regulations has not been optimal due to lengthy bureaucracy and the absence of regulations that adapt to contemporary waqf innovations such as digital waqf and stock waqf. Comparisons with Malaysia and Turkey demonstrate that the success of productive waqf management is largely determined by institutional professionalism, strong regulatory support, and the integration of public policy with technology and the Islamic financial sector. Therefore, BWI institutional reform needs to focus on professionalizing nazhir (managers), digitizing the national waqf management system, and developing fiscal policies that encourage productive waqf innovation. These reforms are expected to strengthen transparent, accountable, and globally competitive national waqf governance to achieve the welfare of the community in accordance with the principles of maqāṣid al-syarī‘ah (the main objectives of Islamic law)

Abstract

Sharia-based wealth management is increasingly important in the context of global finance that demands a fair and ethical approach. This article aims to explore the application of sharia principles in wealth management, with a focus on the challenges and opportunities faced in practice. This study uses a qualitative method with data collection through interviews and observations in Islamic financial institutions to understand how these principles are applied in day-to-day operations. The data used include interviews with financial institution managers, customers, and sharia experts, as well as document analysis related to wealth management policies and practices. The results of the study indicate that although Islamic financial institutions have great potential to improve community welfare through ethical wealth management, they still face various challenges in implementing sharia principles consistently. Interesting findings from this study indicate that the lack of understanding of sharia financial products among the community is a major obstacle. In addition, inconsistent regulations also reduce the effectiveness of the application of sharia principles in practice. The implications of this study indicate the need to improve sharia financial literacy among the community and develop clearer regulations to support the growth of this sector.

Abstract

Animal husbandry is one of the important sectors that builds the economy of cattle farmers in Asahan Regency. In addition, it is relatively easy to maintain. However, not all people are able to raise cattle due to the lack of capital to buy cows and limited time to manage pet cows. This condition has led to the emergence of a profit-sharing system in Asahan Regency. The purpose of this research is to analyse the implementation of the profit-sharing system in Asahan Regency. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The results of the study explain that the profit sharing of the paro system in Asahan Regency is carried out with the agreement of both parties with the aim of mutual benefit and in its application is able to help the community's income. The paro system with 50:50 profit sharing is able to boost people's income in fulfilling their daily needs. Although this system is very beneficial for both capital owners and cattle farmers, there are often discrepancies in the profit-sharing contract that lead to misunderstandings. Therefore, it is necessary to improve and supervise the profit sharing system in Asahan Regency in order to establish good cooperation between capital owners and cattle farmers.
