Abstract

This study explores how four convolutional neural network (CNN) models MobileNetV2, DenseNet121, EfficientNetB0, and InceptionV3 perform in classifying images from three different datasets: animals, handwritten digits (MNIST), and flowers. The main goal is to understand which model offers the best balance between accuracy and efficiency when applied to datasets with varying complexity. Each model was trained and tested using identical preprocessing steps, and its performance was evaluated based on accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score through a confusion matrix. Training and testing times were also measured to assess computational efficiency. The results show that DenseNet121 consistently achieved the highest accuracy: 98% on animal images and 88% on flower images, while MobileNetV2 provided a close performance (97% and 82%) but with much faster processing times, between 11 and 55 minutes. EfficientNetB0, on the other hand, performed poorly on the more complex flower dataset, achieving only 5% accuracy. These findings suggest that DenseNet121 is ideal for projects where accuracy is the main concern, whereas MobileNetV2 is more suitable for real-time applications that require quick responses without a major drop in accuracy. Overall, this research highlights the importance of aligning model selection with both dataset characteristics and computational limitations in practical image classification tasks.

Abstract

This research paper investigates the influence of airfoil section on winglet design to enhance aerodynamic performance while considering structural aspects. The selection of the airfoil section significantly affects the distribution of lift and drag along the winglet, influencing the overall lift-to-drag ratio of the aircraft and its ability to reduce drag by smoothing the airflow over the wingtip. Three airfoil sections, namely NACA 0010 (symmetrical), NACA 64-009 (thin cambered), and PSU 94-047 (cambered), were compared using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. The study examines the forces and moments experienced by the winglet, including drag force, lift force, and bending moment on wing surface. The CFD simulations were conducted using a Computational Wind Tunnel (CWT) tool, which employs numerical methods and mathematical models to analyze fluid flow around objects. The solver code is based on RANS method. The wind tunnel testing is provided to validate one of CFD simulation results. The findings indicate that the installation of winglets increases both the lift-to-drag ratio and bending moment compared to the clean wing configuration. Among the studied airfoil profiles, NACA 0010 demonstrated the optimum lift-to-drag ratio, showing a 9.5% improvement over the clean wing configuration. Although it is a symmetrical airfoil, the thickness of NACA 0010 contributed to higher lift production and increased bending moment compared to the cambered airfoils (NACA 64-009 and PSU 94-047), which showed approximately 10% improvement in lift-to-drag ratio. While the differences in aerodynamic characteristics between the airfoil profiles were marginal, the overall addition of winglets proved effective in increasing lift and reducing induced drag. The research highlights the significance of airfoil shape and thickness in optimizing winglet performance. Future studies should focus on refining the winglet airfoil profile to maximize the benefits derived from both thickness and cambered shape, aiming to further enhance aerodynamic efficiency.

Abstract

The need for science teaching materials that effectively foster HOTS remains unmet, as most existing resources focus only on lower-order cognitive levels. Furthermore, no comprehensively validated materials, covering content validity, reliability, and statistical significance, are yet available to ensure the effective integration of HOTS indicators. This study aims to develop Science teaching materials based on Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) for the topic of classification of living things for Junior High School (JHS) students. The low attainment of students' higher-order thinking skills, characterized by the lack of HOTS material integration in currently available teaching materials, indicates a significant gap between curriculum demands and current instructional practices. The development of these teaching materials is necessary to address this problem and provide a scientific contribution in the form of a tested instrument to improve the quality of Science learning. The research employed the 4D development model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate), which was reduced up to the Develop stage. The trial subjects included material experts, instructional design experts, Science teachers, and Grade VII students. Data collection techniques were carried out through expert validation, using quantitative and qualitative descriptive analysis. The validation results show that the teaching materials are highly valid with an average score of 3.72 out of a 4-point scale and a Cronbach’s Alpha reliability value of 0.91, indicating high internal consistency.

Abstract

The increase in organic waste generation in Indonesia is driving the need for more sustainable waste management innovations, including through the bioconversion of maggots as an alternative protein source. However, at a business scale like Ratna's Black Soldier Fly (BSF), the maggot drying process remains a major obstacle because conventional methods produce inconsistent quality, require long drying times, and are energy-intensive. A community service project titled ECO-WAVE MAG was introduced to address this issue by implementing a microwave dryer as an appropriate technology. Activities included field surveys, designing and modifying the drying system, technical testing on fresh maggots with a moisture content of around 70 percent, and providing training and operational assistance to partners. Test results showed that the microwave dryer was able to reduce drying time by up to 70 percent, produce a stable final moisture content of 8–10 percent, and maintain the homogeneity and nutritional quality of the dried maggots. This technology also proved to be more energy efficient and able to increase production capacity and product shelf life.
