Abstract

Background: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease that increases the risk of postoperative complications, including delayed wound healing, surgical site infection (SSI), wound dehiscence, and prolonged hospitalization. Hyperglycemia impairs leukocyte function, angiogenesis, collagen synthesis, and tissue regeneration, thereby delaying the wound healing process. The high number of postoperative patients with comorbid Diabetes Mellitus at Meuraxa Regional General Hospital, Banda Aceh, highlights the importance of identifying factors associated with postoperative wound healing. Purpose: To analyze the relationship between blood glucose levels and postoperative wound healing among patients with comorbid Diabetes Mellitus. Methods: This analytical observational study employed a cross-sectional design involving 60 postoperative patients with comorbid Diabetes Mellitus who were selected using an accidental sampling technique between 17 May and 15 June 2025. Blood glucose levels were measured using a calibrated glucometer, while wound healing was assessed using the Bates–Jensen Wound Assessment Tool (BWAT) during a single postoperative wound evaluation. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test, and the strength of the association was expressed as the Odds Ratio (OR) with a 95% Confidence Interval (CI). Results: A significant association was found between blood glucose levels and postoperative wound healing (p = 0.001). Patients with blood glucose levels ≥180 mg/dL were 28.75 times more likely to experience delayed wound healing than those with blood glucose levels of <180 mg/dL (OR = 28.75; 95% CI: 2.96–279.56), indicating that poor glycemic control is strongly associated with impaired postoperative wound healing. Conclusion: High blood glucose levels are significantly associated with delayed postoperative wound healing in patients with diabetes mellitus. Glycemic control through blood glucose monitoring, patient education, therapy adherence, and multidisciplinary collaboration need to be integrated into perioperative management to accelerate wound healing and reduce postoperative complications.

Abstract

Background: HIV/AIDS cases in Aceh reached 1,641 in 2024, with 176 cases in Bireuen and 11 patients at Cot Ie Jue Community Health Center. Stigma and discriminatory attitudes among healthcare workers (HCWs) pose a major challenges for people living with HIV/AIDS, affecting service quality. Purpose: To explore the causes, manifestations, and perceived consequences of HIV-related stigma among healthcare workers at Cot Ie Jue Community Health Center, Bireuen, Indonesia. Method: Qualitative research was employed. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions (FGDs) with 25 informants (doctors, nurses, midwives, etc.) in July 2025, analyzed through reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. Results: HCW stigma is driven by a lack of knowledge and misconceptions about HIV transmission and its impact. This stigma causes anxiety and discomfort in providing care, leading to discriminatory attitudes, avoidance, and low empathy. Patients’ understanding of the importance of ARV therapy and side effects also remains a challenge. Conclusion: Continuous education and training on HIV/AIDS (transmission, prevention, treatment, care), along with effective communication training, are crucial to enhance HCWs' knowledge and ensure empathetic, stigma-free, and supportive interactions with patients.

Abstract

Abstract

Maternal and infant mortality rates are born with high low birth weight determined by the nutritional status of expectant mothers. The prevalence of less energy is the risk of chronic female childbearing age 15–49 years pregnant at 17.3% in 2018. Changes in weight loss period become one of the things to be considered by the mother so that there is a risk reduction for the fetus that is conceived and in the process of birth. Dietary restrictions on the customs of the greater Aceh people cause expectant mothers to be difficult to meet the nutritional needs of mothers and infants. This research aims to analyze the culture related to maternal weight change in the Aceh Besar district. This research is descriptive-analytic by using a crossectional design. Research conducted in three Puskesmas of Aceh Besar (Ingin Jaya, Darul Imarah and Kuta Baro). The sample in this study was 122 respondents. Data analysis using univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analysis. The results showed that there was a maternal weight change relationship with the earned income (P=0.016) and the perception of obesity (P=0.019). Earned income was the dominant factor influencing maternal weight change (OR=4.94; P=0.007; 95% CI=1.56–15.68). It is hoped that the Aceh Health Office will improve the nutritional status of pregnant women and re-check K4 data.

Abstract

Background: Introduction: Treatment-seeking patterns for schizophrenia patients in developing countries often involve indirect access to formal health services. Traditional and spiritual healing remain common initial pathways, particularly in strong cultural and religious contexts. Purpose: To describe treatment-seeking patterns and analyze factors associated with the use of traditional medicine as first aid in male patients with schizophrenia. Method: This quantitative, cross-sectional study was conducted from August to December 2025 at the Aceh Provincial Mental Hospital. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, with a sample size of 155 respondents. The independent variables in this study were age, age of psychosis onset, education level, employment status, marital status, residence, distance to mental health services, internalized stigma as measured using the Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness Scale (ISMI-10), social support as measured using the Multidimensional Social Support Scale (MSPSS), and symptom severity as assessed using the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale – Joy Component (PANSS-EC). The dependent variable was the use of traditional medicine. Bivariate analysis used the Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, independent t-test, or Mann–Whitney U test. Results: A total of 57.4% of respondents used traditional medicine as first aid before accessing formal health services. Bivariate analysis showed no significant association between the use of traditional medicine and age (p=0.389), age of onset (p=0.997), education level (p=0.680), marital status (p=0.500), employment status (p=0.784), or domicile (p=0.333). Multivariate analysis also showed no factors significantly associated with the use of traditional medicine. Conclusion: Traditional medicine remains the dominant initial pathway for seeking help among male patients with schizophrenia in Aceh. Demographic factors were not significantly associated with the choice of treatment pathway.   Keywords: First Aid; Male Patients; Schizophrenia; Treatment Seeking Patterns; Traditional Medicine.

Abstract

Background: The World Health Assembly has set a global target of 40% reduction in the number of children under five years of age who are stunted. In Bireuen Regency, however, cases have risen sharply, with prevalence increasing from 23.4% in 2022 to 32.9% in 2023. Purpose: To analyze area-based specific and sensitive interventions for stunting prevention in Bireuen Regency. Method: A quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted using secondary data from the Bireuen Regency Health Office, obtained from the Electronic Community-Based Nutrition Recording and Reporting System (E-PPGBM) and the Healthy Indonesia Program with a Family Approach (PIS-PK). The analysis included all 609 villages in Bireuen Regency. Chi-square tests and logistic regression were used to assess the associations between interventions and stunting prevalence. Results: Significant associations were found for iron–folic acid supplementation among adolescent girls (OR=12.2; p=0.001) and pregnant women (OR=0.21; p=0.001), early initiation of breastfeeding (OR=2.02; p=0.008), child growth monitoring (OR=0.47; p=0.002), and complete immunization (OR=2.56; p=0.024). Antenatal care and exclusive breastfeeding were not significantly associated with stunting. Sensitive interventions, including access to clean water (OR=3.24; p=0.001), sanitation (OR=3.02; p=0.001), and social security (OR=0.50; p=0.008), were also significantly associated with stunting prevalence. Conclusion: Integrated, area-based implementation of both specific and sensitive interventions is essential for sustainable stunting reduction in Bireuen Regency.
