Abstract

This research aims to identify misconceptions of the grade ninth students at MTs Al-Ishlahuddiny Putra Kediri Lombok using a three-tier test on the concept of atoms, ions, and molecules. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The population in this study was class IX students at MTs Al-Ishlahuddiny Putra Kediri, consisting of 216 students. Sampling was carried out using a random sampling technique using the Slovin formula, and a sample of 68 students was obtained. The instrument used in this research is the three-tier test instrument by Riana Dewi Astari and has been validated using product moment correlation. The research results showed that the average percentage of students who experienced misconceptions was 23%, classified as low. Most students need clarification regarding the connection between the concept of compound molecules and elements and the concept of ions that release and receive electrons. Factors that cause misconceptions among students are the gap between preconceptions and concept assimilation, the objects being studied being abstract or difficult for students to understand, and the incompleteness of the information students receive during learning.

Abstract

Scaffolding is a strategy given by teachers to guide students to successfully complete learning tasks. Teachers may provide either questioning, cueing, prompting, or explaining and is based on students’ actual ability. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the scaffolding provision and students’ creative thinking skills on students' science process skills (SPS) in a project-based learning (PjBL) about acid and base concepts. A quasy factorial experiment research design was applied to collect data using a pre-validated SPS-observation. An experiment group from SMAN 3 in Jambi City had learnt the concepts using a scaffolding-assisted PjBL while a control group from the same school had learnt it using PjBL without scaffolding. Prior to the learning, creative thinking ability of the students was measured using a questionnaire. Data was then analyzed using a two-way Anova test assisted by SPSS software. The results of analyses showed that there was an effect of the scaffolding and the creative thinking ability on the students’ SPS. Potential interaction between those variables was also seen in affecting the SPS. It appears that the the presence of scaffolding and the initial students’ ability in creative thinking sinergetically improved the students’ SPS.

Abstract

Experimental corrosion tests and theoretical calculation were conduct to investigate the corrosion inhibition mechanism of black cumin seed extract for copper in 1 M H2SO4 solution. Electrochemical testing using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) method showed that BCS adsorbed to form a protective layer on the copper surface with high inhibition efficiency at 500 ppm concentration (73,35%). Increasing the BCS concentration up to 500 ppm causes the charge transfer resistance increase in the EIS measurement, while the corrosion current density measured by PDP decreases. The values of charge transfer resistance and corrosion current density at 500 ppm BCS are respectively 3687 .cm2 and 2.86 μA.cm-2. The BCS is a mixed inhibitor (anodic and cathodic) that adsorbs physically on the copper surface and obey the Langmuir isothermal adsorption model. Quantum chemical calculation and molecular dynamic simulation show that the studied BCS molecules adsorb strongly on the copper surface with parallel orientation mode. The methyl linoleate (MLIN) molecules from BCS produce the most stable adsorption energy of the other studied compound molecules as a result of molecular dynamic simulation.
