Abstract

Family planning programmes are not optimal for Muslim women; this is inseparable from the view that contraception is controversial in Islamic teachings. This study aims to examine the influence of the ideal number of children, the role of husbands, the desired last child, and the type of contraception in Muslim women of childbearing age from the perspective of Islam and health. This study used data from the 2017 IDHS in Aceh, West Sumatra, Riau, West Java, Central Java, and East Java on 5797 Muslim women from January to December 2022. The results of this study showed a significant association between the ideal number of boys (p<0.001; PR = 1.332), number of daughters (p<0.001; PR = 1.289), husbands who decide (p=0.004), and contraceptive types (p<0.001; PR = 1.205) with family planning use. The family planning use is influenced by factors such as gender preference, joint decision-making, and the type of contraceptive used. Modern contraceptives are more effective and reliable, suggesting a trend toward modern methods for family planning.

Abstract

Microfinance institutions (MFIs) play an important role in community economic empowerment, especially for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and low-income groups that are not covered by formal financial institutions. This study uses the literature review method to analyse the strategic role of MFIs in supporting community economic improvement from the perspective of the actors and clients. The results of the study show that MFIs not only provide financial services, but also act as initiators, facilitators, and assistants in the empowerment process. MFIs support business development through the provision of capital, financial education, and management training, which helps MSMEs improve business quality and competitiveness in the market. In addition, MFIs contribute to creating financial inclusion in remote areas and support the empowerment of women in entrepreneurship. The multiplier effect of optimising the role of MFIs includes increasing community income, reducing poverty, creating new jobs, and strengthening the national economy in a sustainable manner. Therefore, institutional strengthening, human resource capacity building, and synergy between the government and MFIs are needed to support more equitable and sustainable community economic empowerment.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development strategy of laundry Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) in facing increasingly fierce competition. Laundry MSME, as one of the business sectors with great potential, often face serious challenges, such as limited capital, low use of technology, and inconsistent service quality. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method on several laundry MSMEs in urban areas, which are analyzed using the Swot theoretical framework and Porter's Five Forces model. The results showed that MSME laundry has strengths in competitive pricing, proximity to customers, and strategic location. However, the main weakness found is the lack of technology utilization and innovation in services, which hinders the competitiveness of the business. Opportunities, such as increasing awareness of sustainability-based services and digitalization, provide room for business development. Threats from competition with laundry franchises and changing customer preferences that increasingly lead to fast and efficient services, pose serious challenges for MSMEs. Based on the analysis, suggested development strategies include utilizing digital technology for management and marketing, improving service quality, innovation in service types, and product diversification to attract new customers.

Abstract

Many countries, including Indonesia, still face important problems, namely poverty. As of March 2024, based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), 25.22 million people from the total population of Indonesia live below the poverty line. This study aims to explore the strategic role of Islamic Microfinance Institutions (LKMS) in two aspects, namely supporting the development of the people's economy and poverty alleviation. Islamic Microfinance Institutions (LKMS) play an important role in supporting the people's economy and poverty alleviation in Indonesia. LKMS also helps the community through the management of social funds such as zakat, ifaq, sadaqah and waqf (ZISWAF), which support productive businesses in poor communities and improve their welfare. Overall, LKMS has succeeded in increasing financial inclusion by reaching previously marginalized populations and helping to combat poverty through fair and sharia-based financing. However, to reduce the impact of sharia financial products, the problem of financial literacy and public understanding of it must be resolved
